Odd they decided to cut the duel down in 'Golden Gun' but left in the nightclub fight, Bond pushing the kid into the river, Sheriff Pepper and the Elephant, Bond Hitting Andrea, the bedroom scene with Goodnight, Bond and Andrea...
8:30 This is fleshed out in the DAD novelisation - looks like it was based on an early version of the script where this scene is intact. It’s unbelievably naff, with Bond clinging on whilst admiring the view of the Houses of Parliament and the MI6 building (that’s some flight path they’re taking)!
Would have been great to have seen that Moonraker deleted scene, I love that Drax has his board room underneath the shuttle's launchpad just in case he feels like incinerating someone.
The OHMSS chase scene sounds amazing, I would love to see that! Also a lost scene from Thunderball which I’d like to see is where Bond is given a tour around the Disco Volante, as in the finished film we don’t really see much of the interior of the boat
Sadly the Disco Volante tour scenes got lost in a fire many years later according to Patrick Macnee on the Thunderball DVD/ Blu Ray. Only a few still shots of it exist today.
The OHMSS deleted footage is something I'm so desperate to see. Hopefully one day they'll be a bit more released on it. A chase through 60's London looks so cool
To me the OHMSS chase is the holy grail of mystery deleted scenes in the Bond series, so if by some miracle that would appear again I would be over the moon. For that aeroplane scene from DAD, I like to think that Neal Purvis or Robert Wade must have watched Arnold Schwarznegger in Commando escaping the plane and thought 'Huh, that gives me an idea'.
There’s also a still of Jaws emerging from the circus tent in the Moonraker pre-titles that’s also in the bonus material from the Moonraker DVD/Blu Ray
Indeed! Similar to the deleted bit of footage of the Aston Martin zipping off after it uses the water cannons in Thunderball, I wonder if they always over-film the precredits sequences by a few shots and then Maurice Binder would decide where best to transition into his titles?
Apparently Never Say Never Again had a deleted scene in which Blofeld was killed by his cat. Not sure if that has since been debunked but it is something I'd love to see.
There's stills from it on the Commander 007 site. Earlier in the film Blofeld has his cat claw a minion and the man dies as it turns out the claws have a poison on them! How this works, and how the cat doesn't lick it off I have no idea, but this rather clumsy and stupid method of killing backfires on Blofeld when the cat claws him! So in this film Bond never meets Blofeld, and instead he is killed by his pet cat! It sounds like something from Casino Royale 67.
It has emerged that they were planning on a sequel to NSNA...called 'Spectre' [not the 2015 film] so maybe they dropped that to keep Blofeld alive for that. Connery turned it down so it didn't amount to anything.
Apparently they only shot up to Bond fighting Phidian (Bray's assistant) on the steps behind the college with St Paul's in the background. Phidian would have got away, and Bond would have chased him to the real life Post Office building on nearby King Edward Street. Once inside, Phidian would flee to the basement and get into the tunnels of the real life Mail Rail, a miniaturized tube network used to ferry post across London. Here in a tussle, Bond would kick him in front of a train, killing him. After this, a mock train crash would be staged at St Pancras Station by MI6, with Phidian's body and several unclaimed dead bodies onboard, so a story could appear in the papers showing Phidian had died this way, so as to not spook Blofeld. While this wasn't filmed, the story does appear as a headline in the finished film. When Bond arrives in Switzerland and is met by Irma Bunt, look at the newspaper the MI6 agent watching Bond is pretending to read.
@@CobyMcGhie It is very intricate. And I don't know whether they would have shown us the train crash (expensive and time consuming) or just had M tell Bond about it. I would still love to see Bond in 60's London though in an action and chase scene. By the way, the angel statue on Bray's desk in the finished film is what tips Bond off. He picks it up and finds a microphone on it. Bray tells Bond Phidian gave it to him as a gift. Phidian of course hears this and scarpers. By the time Bond and Bray get to Phidian's workshop the tape he was recording the conversation is gone. Bond says to Bray, if he gets it to Blofeld we're finished or something like that.
www.commander007.net/1969/au-service-secret-de-sa-majeste-scenes-coupees/ There's a few production shots of it - looks like they definitely rehearsed a lot of it at the very least
I remember the Skyfall teaser trailer had a shot of Bond jogging down some sort of park. I know it’s probably a shot made for the trailer or a very quick scene, but I would love to see that footage.
It's Regents Park, which is a nice tie-in to MI6 overlooking that park in the Fleming novels. I'm guessing it would have been in the training montage of Bond getting his health back.
Great video as always! I think I prefer that the Scaramanga cheating scenes were left out - it makes him feel like a more genuine threat as he doesn’t need any tricks to succeed. I think it works in the film’s favour to have Scaramanga be as similar as possible to Bond until the very end.
The Post Office Mail Rail is an underground railway line in London, but not part of the Tube network. It was only used by the Post Office to move letters and parcels through London quickly, as road traffic congestion was preventing letters getting to their destinations on time. It’s one of those nifty things that I think is pretty cool, even if nobody else does. Though nowadays you can actually ride it, as the Post Office stopped using it years ago. That is, once the Museum that runs it is allowed to open again.
Even if OHMSS couldn't feature it, the real thing does appear in one film, the Bruce Willis classic Hudson Hawk. Although there it's doubling for the real life Vatican mail rail.
It would be interesting to see the footage of Jan Werich as Blofeld in YOLT. He did several days filming, so there’s probably quite a bit of material, and I’m interested to see what it was about Mr. Werich’s performance that got him fired. It probably all got thrown in the dustbin as soon as Donald Pleasance came in, though.
As he was described as coming across as like a "benevolent Father Christmas" this would be gold! "You can watch it on TV if you like, and I've made you a Hot Chocolate and got you a blanket as well".
In 'Best Ever Bond' Lewis Gilbert indicates that he didn't film far very long and felt his casting was a complete disaster. He said they were lucky Pleasance was available at short notice.
Watching Goldfinger as a kid, I always spotted the guy in the back of the plane with Goldfinger, but just assumed it was a member of the production team who just got in shot by accident. I never gave it a thought that it might've been one of Goldifnger's men. I ever even noticed him on the floor of the plane until you pointed it out.
In "Some Kind of Hero", the authors mention a pun by Tim Dalton's Bond when Saunders gets cut in half at the Vienna fair in TLD. While I'm glad it was cut (it would have been tonally out of place, and Dalton's actual rage when he seems "smiert spionam" on the balloon is amazing), I would be curious to see it, even if there's a big chance I cringe at it xD
That Royal Mail one has truly floored me! I was always aware that particular shot was deleted but I never realised it was a Royal Mail van until the very second you said "Royal Mail van" and there it was, clear as day! Can't believe I never noticed it before. Surprised you haven't mentioned that alternate take featurette on the Thunderball special features. Truly fascinating stuff, makes you think about how many alternate quips there could be floating around. (I wonder if there's one for Kanangas death considering the one they settled with literally makes no sense and doesn't answer Solitaires question at all!) Still shocked those scenes from Die Another Day haven't turned up yet yet. Praying that well padded home media releases become a thing again!! ..... I wonder if Marc Forster deleted the Quantum of Solace ending because it somehow meant against the four elements.
It wasn't until years later I noticed that scene isn't even in Goldfinger! It's so cool when you notice it though. Presumably it was in the film until late on if Brownjohn was able to use it for the opening titles...
@@davidjames579 Forster wanted each action scene in QOS to represent each of the four elements (earth for the Siena chase, water for the boat chase, wind for the plane sequence, and fire for the hotel sequence). Pretentious garbage that I wouldn’t have picked up on were it not for Wikipedia!
Oh god I didn’t think DAD could get sillier but Bond climbing out of a transatlantic flight to hang on the undercarriage as it lands would somehow fit into the whole mess ! I hope the green screen in it is as cutting edge as the surfing a tsunami sequence!! Ha ha
Goldfinger's plane henchman just blew my mind. I've seen the movie - in its original aspect ratio - many times for over twenty years. I never noticed him, not once. Incredible. I really want to see all the missing Quantum of Solace scenes. The Mister White ending, the use of "Bond, James Bond," the payoff to Agent Fields's name... there have been a lot of Director's Cuts announced this year, I think it's high time QOS got a do-over. Who knows - if they did a second pass on the action scenes, the movie's quality might be elevated by a significant degree.
I always thought of Scaramanga as something of a cheat, as although he never knows when assassins will appear at his home, he nonetheless has the advantage in knowing the place inside out, where his gun is, and the scare tactics of the Funhouse are commonplace to him. The newly arrived Hitperson is disorientated by all this.
I love these deleted scenes videos you do- they’re brilliant! I bet that DAD footage exists somewhere for sure - both of those sequences are so ridiculous they really would fit in with the film beautifully - and of course I would LOVE to see them! But boy - I’d really love to see that Quantum of Solace ending- It was really what was missing from the film! Since it was a direct sequel to Casino Royale, Bond should have definitely wrapped up his unfinished business with those two characters. (That’s what happens when you get a non action Director directing an action film- he preferred the contemplative emotional ending to the Action oriented one!) BTW - I think you should cut that Ekster promo into audition footage and send it to Eon for Bond 26. I’m serious! With that outfit and those smart glasses I honestly think you would make a PERFECT Q! What a story that would be- if Car salesman Lazenby could stroll into Harry Saltzmans office out of nowhere and become James Bond, why couldn’t a Bond Super fan UA-cam creator become Q?!
I believe the Bulgarian mess up was down to the heavy rewriting going on during filming, when they shot that, he didn't die earlier. That was added to pump up Red Grant's presence, creating the problem. I also believe Marc Forster recorded a commentary for a special edition of Quantum that would have presumably included some deleted scenes, but for whatever reason (low sales on the Casino special?), it never got a release.
I didn’t know about that FRWL scene. Like you said, it would be nice to see more of these classic films. I would love to see it someday, however unlikely that may be
They had around seven cameras on the Astro Spiral stunt in The Man with the Golden Gun and I would just love to see the other angles of that stunt. Heck, even if it played a slide whistle each time, I'd watch it hahaha.
I absolutely love the JW Pepper painting you have on your wall! I love that character so much and I know he holds a laughing place in your heart too, awesome Calvin.
Originally Grant said to Bond that he'd watched the film "What a performance". Bond's comment "He was right you know" was a reference to that. It was cut as the censors thought it too risque. Not as risque as how Ian Fleming wanted the Gypsy Girl Fight filmed. As in the novel, Fleming wanted them both naked and one biting the other's nipple. Terence Young had to explain to Fleming there was no point filming that as the censor would never allow it, even in an X rated film!
There's a deleted scene from Die Another Day, where M has a discussion with Bond's doctor, played by cult science fiction star Paul Darrow(who appears in the finished film as an extra). This would've taken place shortly after his extraction from North Korea. Darrow has a brilliant screen presence and it was the most high-profile film he was ever a part of, so it's a proper shame that we've never seen it!
On the back of my Thunderball DVD box, there are two pictures, which are not in the movie. One is Largo in a suit, with several of his men, all in diving suits. The other is Paula, on a beach, holding a knife, facing off with several of largo's men in diving suits. They may be only promotional stills, but If They are deleted scenes, I'd love to see them. But there are stills of the scene where Largo, shows Bond the Disco Volante. Love to see that.
I remember Cubby (pretty sure it was Cubby) saying the duel was cut, because it felt silly to have a few minutes' worth of two guys shouting at each other from behind rocks.
@@calvindyson It has to exist somewhere- that was a major, fully edited sequence that they used in the trailer! I suppose because the film is not one of the most well regarded of the series I guess they want to bother with the search. But I couldn’t agree more - I would LOVE to see this one, especially if it was somehow edited into the film itself. Always thought that final showdown with Scaramanga seemed rushed and was missing something- maybe it was THIS that it was missing for all these years!
Yeah, it's cool the way he seems to be using a distraction with that projectile. Even though we know he doesn't blow up the plane (they just cut those shots together to make the trailer cooler) I always like it when Roger uses his wits as he's often viewed as the Bond who relies mostly on gadgets.
I'm quite interested in the deleted footage from Diamonds Are Forever showing extra shots for the Oil Rig Climax. We know from Michael Wilson's commentary on the DVD that the Frogmen shown at the start of the footage would've taken part in the fight (probably carrying mines in containers to damage the rig). It would've made the attack feel much more exciting before the unfilmed battle between Bond and Blofeld at a Salt Mine. I so wish the entirety of that would've been filmed, but I guess like the OHMSS London chase scene it would've made DAF much longer.
Bond and Blofeld needed a proper showdown, esp after OHMSS. His 'demise' is so weak that they could bring him back in FYEO without anyone thinking "But isn't he dead?"
Connery had it in his contract that he'd have to be compensated for any over runs so hence maybe it was a casualty of that and there was no time to film the final battle.
@@jamesatkinsonja Yes, that's also likely. Still, it's odd that they shot quite a bit of footage for the frogmen sequence on location before deciding to scrap it. Perhaps there was more material they were going to film at Pinewood, which was then scrapped to save time. I expect the final confrontation between Bond and Blofeld was probably scrapped long before filming, because Guy Hamilton says on the commentary they didn't get permission to film at the salt mine location they'd considered.
I'm kind of sad about not seeing Spectre's alleged original screenplay. From what I've seen (it might be a fake, but who knows), Blofeld would have way more presence. We would get some of its backstory with some flashbacks of the 90s, where Blofeld met Mr. White. They were a group of soldiers called "Le Spectre" (as "Scepter" in French, not an achronym) that got brought to the desert. The group was dying and they needed food, so, he gave one of the soldiers' corpse as food for the other ones. I know it's not much, I'm pretty sure you can find way more information that actually reveals more than my comment but I just wanted to point that out.
Calvin as always a great job putting this together. Your videos certainly help pass the days and weeks until No Time To Die is finally released. It would be great if EON Productions could produce the ultimate deleted scenes DVD. Cheers
Another reason why the alternate ending of Quantum of Solace was deleted was because Marc Forster wanted the next director to have the freedom to make the film they wanted instead of being forced to finish the Quantum storyline and make a trilogy, which is quite nice of him! Also, when Bond shoots Mr. White at the end, it was supposed to turn into the gunbarrel of the film, just like at the beginning of Casino Royale, so it was always planned to be at the end, but it would've been another in movie moment, which would've been awesome to see, really wish they would release it. Makes one think tho, if they hadn't deleted it, maybe that would've turned into Craig's thing, the gunbarrel always being an actual significant moment in the film and not always tied to the beginning, who knows! Very interesting to think about Edit: Forgot to mention, knowing how Craig has wanted to quit ever since Skyfall, if they had kept the alternate ending and the third film hadn't been Skyfall and they instead had made a threequel that finished what Casino Royale started and Quantum followed, Craig might've just done 3 films. Crazy how things could've turned out completely differently
Love to see all those. Sadly the days of DVD which include all the bells and whistles of deleted scenes commentarys funny outakes and on set and behind the scenes stuff and all the fun stuff we used to get as standard seem to be a thing of the past but the Bond releases are still pretty good at providing extra content. I'm sure the producers and film studios would have kept them in a vault somewhere. I have outakes from an Elvis film from 1970 which have never been officially released. The film studios hold all this stuff in the vaults. The main interest for them is finnancial return but if you're re-releasing the same films over and over there has to be some incentive for the loyal suckers to buy the films all over again and new content will always be a draw for me when buying the Bond films on disc. Like you I started with the VHS series and went to the special editions the ultimate editions DVD and the Blu Ray releases. Also want to see some retrospectives on the Brosnan and Craig films. Like you say a lot of the content was promotional material rather than a proper retrospective look at how the film was made as with the Inside documentarys. Those were brilliant!
Sadly deleted material is not always tracked or even well looked after. Lots of times deleted material has only been found (and often by accident) in studios in other parts of the world. It's incredible to think, but this stuff often just gets forgotten about, or people lose track of where it went. Of course, when this happens, the film can deteriorate. I wish studios would be far more careful, and log and keep all un-used footage and takes. At least with Digital production and storage there is more chance of more copies being made and tracked, rather than relying on finding decrepit film reels.
The OHMSS rooftop chase scene is the number one of all these I'd like to see. It's a shame that they waited another 30 years to have Bond in a chase scene in London. Or was there ever any action scenes in London between OHMSS and The World Is Not Enough that I'm just forgetting? I guess it makes sense considering very little of the individual movies ever take place in London; usually Bond gets debriefed by M, has a quick flirtation with Moneypenny, goes to Q branch to get some new gadgets, and then is off on the mission. That's one of the things I like about Skyfall, how much of it takes place in London including an extended action scene.
I remember Patrick Mcnee on the Inside Thunderball Documentary saying that there was a scene where Bond and Domino where shown around the Disco Volante and then a scene where Bond and Domino went hang gliding together. Although I doubt that still exists. Side Note: There was also stills from Thunderball where Adolfo Celi is seen in his white tuxedo giving a talk to all his frogmen. I think this would have been a promotional still but it even appeared on the Bond 50 Blu ray set next to the Thunderball disc.
I always had Scaramanga down as a vain cheat. While he always has to worry that armed men will appear in his house, he doesn't have the fear or disorientation that Rodney does about the Funhouse.
@@lifeschool Of course it is. But, no more so than the whole set up in the first place. Scaramanga challenged Bond to a duel, bond accepted, and then Bond finds himself playing a game of hide-and-seek instead. Not to mention the unfairness of more or less forcing someone to duel you to the death in the first place, given that when Bond agreed Scaramanga had a gun pointed right at him.
I would love to see any of partly filmed 'Honey Rider/crab attack' footage from Dr. No if it still exist... Or anything else deleted/removed from the 1st Bond film if it still around somewhere...
There are a lot of deleted scenes during Spectre that would really improve the film. I have this feeling that Sam Mendes always had a vision of a two-part film that was at some point cut out by the producers. Just look at this video, there was a Moneypenny & M discussion that would be just phenomenal to see at some point. 0:42 ua-cam.com/video/15ez7ZYceOs/v-deo.html
There were plans for Spectre to be filmed back to back with it's sequel but given how complex one bond film is to make this was rejected [though NTTD will continue the story]. Apparently the film was only finished editing very shortly before they released it meaning there wasn't a lot of time to play around with different cuts [and probably why the final film has pacing issues].
I recall reading on an online forum, a few years ago, where someone who worked as a cinema projectionist in an Odeon cinema, in South London, in the early 70’s, who claims that a 35mm print of From Russia with Love the cinema screened was Harry Saltzman’s personal print who loaned it to the cinema, supposedly. The projectionist claimed that Saltzman’s print contained an extended version of the train fight between Bond and Red Grant and extra dialogue between the two before the fight. And apparently Bond did a loud scream when Grant smacks the butt of his gun across Bond’s face, which was muted out in all other versions of the film
Sheriff Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Okay I've never thought about this before, but with George Martin doing the score and Paul McCartney the theme song, does anyone think Sheriff Pepper is an in-joke?
There had been some rumours circulating on various forums that the very first VHS release of Dr. No, in 1981/82, contained the work print of the film, which had Bond shooting Professor Dent six times in the back (instead of 2), extended fight between Bond and the car driver, and more risqué dialogue (e.g Dr. No saying “I’m sure she will amuse the guards” instead of “I’m sure the guards will amuse her”) but I’m not sure if this has ever been confirmed true or not
I don’t know if they are deleted scenes, but all the stills on the Casino Royale poster such as Bond and Vespa in I guess a swimming pool, the Aston outside and exploding house and a boat on a river don’t appear in the film and would be interesting to see if they were deleted scenes.
The Train that would have killed Phidian is indeed a Royal Mail Train. There used to be Mail Rail, an automated mini tube network to move mail from the main sorting office on King Edward Street near St Pauls to the Paddington sorting office. In the script, Phidian runs to The Post Office on King Edward Street, loses Bond and posts the recording to Blofeld. Bond then spots him and the chase continues down into the basement of the building and onto Mail Rail. Bond/MI6 recover the package before it leaves the Post Office. . The sequence would then continue after Phidian's death, with Bond at St Pancras Station meeting up with Q (dressed as a conductor!). They oversee a passenger train, that then leaves. We are then shown that the train's passengers are all corpses, including Phidian! I'm not sure how this would have been conveyed, presumably through Bond and Q's dilaog but all the corpses are John Doe's who died accidently (just so we know MI6 didn't kill several random people). The train speeds through the night, branching off onto what turns out to be a dead end, and crashing (the driver is able to escape before the crash but after over-riding the dead man's handle). This leads into Phidian's death being explained away as an accident, and is referenced in a headline on Shaun Campbell's newspaper seen in the film, about "19 people killed in rush-hour train crash." As amazing as this all would have been, you can see why it could have killed the pacing, and the expense and logistics of the train crash scene alone for a minor character would have been too much. As Calvin says the beginning part of this was filmed, then paused, with the intention of finishing it later. Towards the end of shooting, with the schedule behind and costs mounting, along with the length of the Rough Cut, it was decided to lop this off the schedule. Mail Rail would however get a movie appearance, but not until 1991 and the Bruce Willis Comedy Classic Hudson Hawk. There it plays not itself though, but The Vatican's underground mail railway. Interesting to see MI6 faking the news, but of course we do see that in Tomorrow Never Dies when M instructs that Carver's death be reported to the press as him falling off his yacht.
Ditto my thoughts with yours the TMWTGG and OHMSS and Moonraker stills deleted scenes intrigue me a lot as does the ending in QOS I do find those stills the holy grail of bond gold dust too. The Moonraker one especially the board room and and space station are a couple of my favourite Ken Adam sets. Great video Calvin
@Calvin Dyson Hey man, big fan of your channel, keep up the work. I'm really surprised that as much attention as the supposed Goldeneye workprint has gotten, that you didn't talk about those scenes.
I completely forgot Paul Ritter was in a Bond movie until you mentioned Guy Haines in Quantum of Solace. He was so good at being bad in Chernobyl that its amazing how squandered he was at the time.
@@BenCol Oh of course. Didn't connect it was him! I feel as silly as finding out Timothy Dalton was in Flash Gordon, which I had seen at least once before it was announced he would be the new James Bond
is it just me or does he look an awful lot like Stephen Dillane, in Quantum of Solace ? I remember watching the film after a long hiatus a few years ago and thinking to myself : "OMG, they actually got Stannis the Mannis in that film!!!"
I think I remember you mentioning the original ending for Diamonds are Forever where Bond chases Blofeld from the Oil Rig to a Salt Mine where they battle it out, would be interesting to see
@@ricardocantoral7672 Connery had it in his contract that he would be heavily compensated if the film overran so that probably played a part in it not being filmed too.
This may be my memory but on the back of one of the 007 spy files magazine. There is a still image of potential extended fight scene in Tomorrow never dies at the printing factory with the guy in the red jacket.
I am maybe one of the few who liked that movie and it´s because Brosnan was Bond in it. In my oppinion they should have deleted all the scenes with Craig as Bond and in the all of his five so called "Bond "movies. He looks like Putin with zero charisma.
I would love to see you do a video on the lost Timothy Dalton bond film it would be interesting to hear your take on what could of been also are you going to be reviewing the world is not enough for N64 and Janes bond 007 for game boy?
If you watch Skyfall's teaser trailer, there's a shot of Bond jogging along in a park, which I don't recall seeing in the movie. I assume that's meant to be while Bond's getting himself fit to return to duty.
Christopher Lee addressed the cut footage in an interview, where he said as they were doing "the duel," you see Scaramanga dive into the rocks, so them shouting at each other happens right after Bond turns, shoots and notices Scaramanga not there. Yes he cheated the duel, obviously believing Bond could just as easily defeat him in this fair fight, but he doesn't actually "cheat" in his career as an assassin--to which he is very much a skilled professional. Bond picks up a thermos flask from the sea-plane blast and fills it with from a trickle of avgas coming from the plane, throws and shoots it (the bullet count by Nic-Nac would have been edited too) to where Scaramanga dives into the fun house.
Don't know about anyone else, but upon finding out that Calvin is from Leeds from one of his older videos, I can't unhear the accent now XD! Notice that he says 'ool-timate' rather than 'uhl-timate.'
The Royal Mail Van is still in Goldfinger, but just in the background of the Q Lab scene. I always found Scaramanga to be a cheat already. While assassins do creep up on him at anytime at home, he still has the advantage of knowing this will happen at some point, and the layout of his island, and he won't be perturbed by the funhouse in a way someone seeing it for the first time will. Also although Nik Nak is set to inherit the island if his boss dies, it seems to me he is somewhat working against the visiting assassins. Apparently Bond climbing on the gears of the plane was removed as it would be intercut with Graves parachuting. And it would be confusing as to whether that was Bond or not. Although I can see that being the point as Graves uses a Union Jack parachute like Bond in Spy Who so it would be a fake-out. But I guess they realised it was too confusing for audiences. Bond on plane gear, man parachutes, but Bond s still on the plane gear. Er..... The hot tub scene makes no sense. Graves looks pissed off. Was he going to admonish Miranda for having sex during work hours? From Russia was made in a very on-the-hoof way, and the complicated novel story elements, while simplified in the script, clearly caught the film-makers out too. Young also had a relaxed way of working, and didn't seem to keep shot lists, to the point that he forgot to shoot the car lights hitting the three blind mice in Dr No. So editor Peter Hunt had to fake it in the studio. He also used to infuriate Hunt by not shooting enough coverage for scenes, leaving the editor with not much to cut between. I'm not sure people wouldn't have noticed the dead man back again, and on repeated viewings it would have caused mocking. Although Young couldn't have foreseen this, but in the home video age it def would have. Moonraker's deleted Space Station stuff inc Bond and Holly observing one of the Noah's Ark couples starting the repopulation of the Earth quickly, in a 'Love Chamber'. No nudity but we would have seen the couple in a big floating bedsheet pulsating not by them, but just something it does! Quantum's original ending could be put on discs and clearly marked as Alternative Deleted Ending.
For the QoS deleted scene, aside from affecting the aforementioned character, I just think the overall reception to QoS hasn't justified MGM wanting to release those deleted scenes.
From what I understand both the reception of QOS and its troubled production are part of the reason why MGM is reluctant to release the deleted scenes. Even Marc Foster himself said in one interview(about six or so years after the film had come out) he was not happy with the finished film either.
Definitely up for anything extra from QOS. Especially that ending. It could actually improve what was a lousy film. A double disc extended cut would be welcome, hopefully with a few scenes edited with longer frames and less choppy editing. Remarkably, QOS could actually be made into a hidden gem in the franchise . .
Well after HBO using the Snyder Cut to get people to sign up to HBO Max, maybe MGM could use a new edit of QoS to tempt people to sign up to Peacock (since Universal are distributing No Time To Die).
There are two which spring to mind: - In TWINE, there is some very brief behind the scenes footage of Bond and Elektra at the casino which we don't see in the final film. I am presuming this would help bridge the gap where Bond very suddenly changes tune and sleeps with Elektra? - There is an image on the Thunderball DVD of Paula being held at knifepoint by several of Largo's men on a beach. She is wearing the same bikini that we first see her in, so I am presuming this would have happened fairly early in the movie?
The Thunderball scene with Paula you described was a publicity shot. As I understand, her being kidnapped from the Hotel room was always in the screenplay.
I remember reading the making of DAD book in 2002 and it says as Bond drives up to the Ice Palace there's a specially modified Golf Course on Ice! Of course that isn't in the film.
Today I got a package from Ebay and in the package there was about 14 different sizes movie reels in 35 mm. Who know, maybe the deleted London run chase from OHMSS is in one of those reels. If so, what should I do with it? The movie company deleted so nobody wants that anyhow. Maybe I will throw it away in the dumpster or maybe burn it.
Oh, I'd die for the OHMSS rooftop chase, but as you said, I fear it doesn't really exist anymore... On QOS, there's this new documentary that was announced about Craig's Bond and looking back at his tenure, so chances are we might see it in there, hopefully. One thing I'd love to see more footage of is SF. In one of the trailers there's footage of an extra meeting between Mallory and M after Bond has boarded Severine's yacht, and I believe that Michael G. Wilson's cameo as one of the pallbearers at the MI6 funeral was filmed as well. Now we only see his head if you look very closely behind Tanner.
@@ricardocantoral7672 Well, within the context of the film I agree that it would've felt like filler. But as Calvin says, as a piece of film, a historic document as it were, I'd love to see a clip of what they did film.
@@ricardocantoral7672 The film was to have been cut, but the President of the American association of movie theater owners of all people told them not to, as he thought the film was perfect.
@@davidjames579 Too bad because there are parts that should have been excised. Bond spends too much time at the clinic and there are one too many chase sequences. The film ranks third on my Bond list but some editing would make it numero dos.
In the opening credits of Goldfinger you can see Goldfinger's golden revolver shooting more than once unlike at the end on the jet. I am assuming that in the struggle to fight over the gun it fired several shots which killed Goldfinger's henchman and shot the window out. However, Peter Hunt came across a logistic problem when editing this last scene. If you look closely, he resembles the same henchman who is ejected out of the Aston Martin earlier in the film. Although, that henchman could have survived the ejection, Hunt must have thought this was a major gaffe and did his best to edit around the final scene. The editing worked because many people, including one sound editor on the same film, did not notice the gaffe for decades until home video allowed us to study these films frame by frame.
You should do an interview with Meg Simmonds from the EON Archives and ask whether they also archive the movies. At least Barbara Broccoli has a personal collection of 35mm prints of every movie (according to an interview of someone who worked on Skyfall, don’t remember the name)
She inherited that from her father, it was a clause that both he and Harry Saltzman had their own copies. They'd also lend out 16mm copies to writers they hired to bring them up to speed on the existing Bond films (both Roald Dahl and John Landis have spoken of this).
Odd they decided to cut the duel down in 'Golden Gun' but left in the nightclub fight, Bond pushing the kid into the river, Sheriff Pepper and the Elephant, Bond Hitting Andrea, the bedroom scene with Goodnight, Bond and Andrea...
Moore Era priorities, smh
I’m fine with that hat they have left in the film, as it’s one of my personal favourites, but I do feel we could have had a bit more of the duel.
Oh no, the ghost of Cubby Broccoli is going to haunt you, you called Moonraker “science-fiction” at 14:20 when it is in fact “science-fact”

Lazenby’s second outing as Bond? Very minor SPOILERS ahead ua-cam.com/video/gJJw08-15vE/v-deo.html
"Meeting adjourned. No, you, you stay behind. On your own".
As long as the footage filmed for it is in decent shape, I would be game to see it too!
@@user-si9fx4xb6v completely agree mate yeah, would be awesome to see
To me the OHMSS chase is the holy grail of mystery deleted scenes in the Bond series, so if by some miracle that would appear again I would be over the moon.
For that aeroplane scene from DAD, I like to think that Neal Purvis or Robert Wade must have watched Arnold Schwarznegger in Commando escaping the plane and thought 'Huh, that gives me an idea'.
It would not surprise me in the least if that was how the idea came about.
Great Show on James Bond.Sean Connery was the best Bond ever.
That deleted OHMSS chase scene is the holy grail of deleted 007 scenes.
YES. I remember seeing that still of Jaws in a book about 007, then later watching Moonraker and being like, "huh, where is that scene?"
@@calvindyson Amazing how that Aston got there considering the amount of water it shoots out would make it too heavy to move.
There’s an extra couple of seconds in the Octopussy work print prior to the titles as well
Apparently Never Say Never Again had a deleted scene in which Blofeld was killed by his cat.
Not sure how much of it was shot but would love to see the 'lost' chase scene from OHMSS.
I yeah I saw some photos somewhere and Lazenby actual had a gun unlike until the end of the film.
@@davidjames579 that would have been a cool scene, but maybe would have felt uneven and the pacing would be thrown off.
Yey! I love Moonraker too! Was always baffled why they spent loads on that board room that doesn't get used!
I'd like to see some of the Skyfall deleted scenes with Severine. Anymore of that character with Roger Deakins' cinematography would be great.
Of all of them, the deleted bit from Golden Gun really needs to be in the film. As is, the duel feels incomplete.
Very true actually I hadn't considered that! I assume too such footage would just be thrown out but I'm always slightly hopeful for these things...
wasn't there a rumour several years back that the Werich footage was going to see the light of day on a YOLT special DVD?
As he was described as coming across as like a "benevolent Father Christmas" this would be gold! "You can watch it on TV if you like, and I've made you a Hot Chocolate and got you a blanket as well".
In 'Best Ever Bond' Lewis Gilbert indicates that he didn't film far very long and felt his casting was a complete disaster. He said they were lucky Pleasance was available at short notice.
I read somewhere that Jan Werich was taken ill a few days into filming and had to be replaced.
That would be hilarious if it was in DAD because it’s bizarre. How did he get down to the wheel? Its soo bad it’s good😂
I asked Marc Forster directly about the death of Mr White scene - he said it would ’never’ be released
This was actually included in a rough cut of the film that was stolen from an editing house in 1987 and sold by video pirates.
Sorry, could you say what you mean by against the four elements?
@@davidjames579 Forster wanted each action scene in QOS to represent each of the four elements (earth for the Siena chase, water for the boat chase, wind for the plane sequence, and fire for the hotel sequence). Pretentious garbage that I wouldn’t have picked up on were it not for Wikipedia!
@@innesmackintosh214 Why? I don't see what it adds.

Another bit of Calvin magic. Great too see this. Pity this stuff, wasn’t used. Great video as usual.
Thanks, Dale! You’re very kind!
(That’s what happens when you get a non action Director directing an action film- he preferred the contemplative emotional ending to the Action oriented one!)
BTW -
I think you should cut that Ekster promo into audition footage and send it to Eon for Bond 26.
I’m serious!
With that outfit and those smart glasses I honestly think you would make a PERFECT Q!
What a story that would be-
if Car salesman Lazenby could stroll into Harry Saltzmans office out of nowhere and become James Bond, why couldn’t a Bond Super fan UA-cam creator become Q?!
I wished that deleted scene from On Her Majesty’s Secret Service when Bond chases the guy around London was released. I would love to see that one.
I would love to think that when Craig officially steps down from the role that we will get extended cuts of all his films, that would be awesome!
So, you KNOW there has to exist BLOOPER scenes from ALL the Bond movies. I think it would be so hilarious to see these as well as the deleted scenes.
There’s a trim at the end of FRWL when Bond’s examining the Super8 footage of him and Tania I would love to see put back. Great video 👍
Avon in a Bond film and the scene has never been released shame. :(
Thanks, that a very nice find ! I added it to the dossier.
They could have cut out the dialogue. Unfortunately, producers seem to despise lengthy periods in films without dialogue.
Roger looks great in the cut golden gun scene! Would love to see that.
I'm so desperately hoping that footage still exists somewhere...
I would love to see a long sequence of them running around all over that damn island
@@calvindyson
It has to exist somewhere- that was a major, fully edited sequence that they used in the trailer!
@@calvindyson But that wouldn't make this terrible film any better.
The Frogmen even appear on the film’s poster
I’m a big Christopher Lee fan so I would love to see more footage of him
I'm kind of sad about not seeing Spectre's alleged original screenplay.
I still want to see Pierce Brosnan's screen test for Living Daylights.
Calvin as always a great job putting this together. Your videos certainly help pass the days and weeks until No Time To Die is finally released. It would be great if EON Productions could produce the ultimate deleted scenes DVD. Cheers
Thank YOU, Pat! Very kind comments! :D
Wouldn't mind getting the lost chase scene from OHMSS I've seen a recon of it and it looks super cool
Very interesting to think about
Edit: Forgot to mention, knowing how Craig has wanted to quit ever since Skyfall, if they had kept the alternate ending and the third film hadn't been Skyfall and they instead had made a threequel that finished what Casino Royale started and Quantum followed, Craig might've just done 3 films.
3:51 Check out the deleted Q scene from No Time To Dyson
I would love to see some Dr. No deleted scenes. Like when Bond empties his gun on Prof. Dent.
The first DAD deleted scene reminds me of Commando when Arnie escaped the same way. There probably wasn't a dog in Bond's flight tho.
Just remembered, apparently one of the reasons why the OHMSS scene was cut was because Lazenby broke his collar bone during making this scene.
You think that luring Bond into a funhouse filled with death traps doesn't count as Scaramanga "cheating"?
They had both agreed that Scaramanga would have the home field advantage while Bond would have the advantage of more ammo.
Knick Knack evens out the home field advantage somewhat as he changes up the obstacles. Bond has more amo.
I always had Scaramanga down as a vain cheat. While he always has to worry that armed men will appear in his house, he doesn't have the fear or disorientation that Rodney does about the Funhouse.
And a thermos flask filled with high explosives isnt?
@@lifeschool Of course it is.
But, no more so than the whole set up in the first place. Scaramanga challenged Bond to a duel, bond accepted, and then Bond finds himself playing a game of hide-and-seek instead.
Not to mention the unfairness of more or less forcing someone to duel you to the death in the first place, given that when Bond agreed Scaramanga had a gun pointed right at him.
Fantastic video!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 😁😁
Again golden stuff from Calvin, keep on making these precious videos!
ua-cam.com/video/15ez7ZYceOs/v-deo.html
There were plans for Spectre to be filmed back to back with it's sequel but given how complex one bond film is to make this was rejected [though NTTD will continue the story]. Apparently the film was only finished editing very shortly before they released it meaning there wasn't a lot of time to play around with different cuts [and probably why the final film has pacing issues].
14:17 Looks a little like a giant version of the GoldenEye key.
Looks a bit like a Bishop's Mitre
Was thinking the same. Golden gun, gold finger and golden eye - whats the next body part going to be?
I agree, the Q Branch scenes are always fantastic...although we may be a bit biased haha!
I wonder if it contained Grant's "What a performance" line.
Omg Calvin I love the sergeant pepper drawing on the background
Sheriff Pepper. Sergeant Pepper was the name of The Beatles 8th studio album.
@@zanemurcha9742 oops
Sheriff Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Okay I've never thought about this before, but with George Martin doing the score and Paul McCartney the theme song, does anyone think Sheriff Pepper is an in-joke?
There had been some rumours circulating on various forums that the very first VHS release of Dr. No, in 1981/82, contained the work print of the film, which had Bond shooting Professor Dent six times in the back (instead of 2), extended fight between Bond and the car driver, and more risqué dialogue (e.g Dr. No saying “I’m sure she will amuse the guards” instead of “I’m sure the guards will amuse her”) but I’m not sure if this has ever been confirmed true or not
That would be a find, as Eon claim they've lost the footage of Dent being shot that many times, and given it's age it's probably disintegrated.
This leads into Phidian's death being explained away as an accident, and is referenced in a headline on Shaun Campbell's newspaper seen in the film, about "19 people killed in rush-hour train crash."
As amazing as this all would have been, you can see why it could have killed the pacing, and the expense and logistics of the train crash scene alone for a minor character would have been too much.
12:09 And i agree with you there, Calvin! Deleted scenes are gold!
@Calvin Dyson
Hey man, big fan of your channel, keep up the work. I'm really surprised that as much attention as the supposed Goldeneye workprint has gotten, that you didn't talk about those scenes.
Die Another Day was hammy enough that it would just be another 5 minutes of Pantomime 😂
I completely forgot Paul Ritter was in a Bond movie until you mentioned Guy Haines in Quantum of Solace. He was so good at being bad in Chernobyl that its amazing how squandered he was at the time.
Good lord I had to look him up but you're so right... He was terrific in Chernobyl!
I can’t see him without thinking of ‘Friday Night Dinner’.
@@BenCol All I think when I look at him is 'Hello bambinos'!
I think I remember you mentioning the original ending for Diamonds are Forever where Bond chases Blofeld from the Oil Rig to a Salt Mine where they battle it out, would be interesting to see
None of that was shot.
@@ricardocantoral7672 all because of the salt mine owners refusing to allow filming there smh
@@nickw1473 I think it was ultimately for the best. Can you imagine Charles Gray's foppish Blofeld doing any sort of strenuous physical activity ?
@@ricardocantoral7672 Connery had it in his contract that he would be heavily compensated if the film overran so that probably played a part in it not being filmed too.
This may be my memory but on the back of one of the 007 spy files magazine. There is a still image of potential extended fight scene in Tomorrow never dies at the printing factory with the guy in the red jacket.
Oh? Interresting. Can you take a photo of it?
One of the Most underrated UA-camrs ever for years.
That’s honestly one of the kindest compliments you could have given! Really appreciate it! Thank you
I personally think it's sad that we have ANY footage of Die Another Day!
Top 10 Bond Scenes that SHOULD be Deleted Scenes
Die Another Day is one of the better and more entertaining Bond films
@@strikerbowls791 You have just uttered words that have never been said before. Not in that order anyway. My best wishes to you sir.
I am maybe one of the few who liked that movie and it´s because Brosnan was Bond in it. In my oppinion they should have deleted all the scenes with Craig as Bond and in the all of his five so called "Bond "movies. He looks like Putin with zero charisma.
What? The whole second half is bullshit. Its by far the worst of Brosnans
Goldfingers random henchman was knocked out from hitting his head on the ceiling when the cabin depressurized its in the book
GOOD EVENING MR BOND............FANS!!!!
I would love to see you do a video on the lost Timothy Dalton bond film it would be interesting to hear your take on what could of been also are you going to be reviewing the world is not enough for N64 and Janes bond 007 for game boy?
I would really love to see outtakes there must so many over 24 films so far.
How about the missing 20 minutes from You Only Live Twice?
There must be deleted scenes for Skyfall. I can't remember what happened to the agents on the USB drive.
If you watch Skyfall's teaser trailer, there's a shot of Bond jogging along in a park, which I don't recall seeing in the movie. I assume that's meant to be while Bond's getting himself fit to return to duty.
3:52 is where we see Calvin sell out! ha
'The Bulgarian man' is just a code name....
Rest in peace Sean Connery, even though you are a little rough around the edges, you will always be the first James Bond. 🖤🍸
I've been watching these films for years. How have I NEVER seen that henchman behind Goldfinger????? I feel like my life is a lie
Great video as always!
Also, where did you get that gold DB5? I'd love to get one myself.
Don't know about anyone else, but upon finding out that Calvin is from Leeds from one of his older videos, I can't unhear the accent now XD! Notice that he says 'ool-timate' rather than 'uhl-timate.'
If you check out his older videos he sounds very Yorkshire.
There are two which spring to mind:
- In TWINE, there is some very brief behind the scenes footage of Bond and Elektra at the casino which we don't see in the final film.
Really want to see the full Golden Gun duel.
So, the "dead character reappears in the next scene" scene in Space Mutiny was actually a homage to FRWL! Good to know.
I am glad the roof top chase was omitted. That would have been pointless filler. Generally speaking, OHMSS needed trimming instead of additions.
The Moonraker boardroom scene? Is any description of it in the novelization of the movie? I love MOONRAKER too and the "bigger than life" villains!
