Charleston, SC day trip to Folly Beach and Sullivan's Island (vlog 3)

- Charleston, SC is so popular because it joins a beautiful and well-preserved historic center with outstanding cuisine and the ability to have a totally different experience when you drive 30 minutes away. That's why Charleston is also known for its beaches. In this video, you'll see our day trip to Folly Beach (the most popular beach in the Charleston area) and Sullivan's Island (a lovely quaint neighborhood and barrier island across the bay).
On Folly Beach, you'll see the beach itself (the famous pier is closed in 2021), downtown, and the Morris Island lighthouse. Then, on our way to Sullivan's Island, we take a detour to see probably the most famous tree in South Carolina: Angel Oak Tree. Finally, on Sullivan's Island, we see the beach itself, grab some lunch, then head to Fort Moultrie and end up seeing an amazing sunset.
This video is part of a road trip to Florida.

Charleston, South Carolina is one of the most charming historical cities in the United States. In the first 2 videos, you saw the historic center, now it's time for the coast.
Missed the first videos? They're in this playlist: • CHARLESTON, South Caro...
Charleston was once the richest city in the US, and it was among the largest as well. Today it lives and breathes history. It's located on the east coast of the USA and it was settled by British explorers in 1670. The best thing is that you can walk everywhere in the historical district.

► WHO AM I?
I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!
P.S.: The funny guy who appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and he's actually camera-shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time 😉

The Angel Oak tree is AMAZING. So worth seeing!
Indeed, so big, expansive and old. Definitely worth the visit. Thanks for sharing
Great video report of South Carolina beaches. Thanks for the mention. As far as wearing masks ever again, no thanks.
Thank you very much I appreciate!
Renata, Great video. We are going to Charleston for 3 days. We want to be able walk out to one (or more) beaches. We will not be staying on the beach, we will be staying in Charleston. We are looking at Folly Beach, Sullivan's Beach, and Isle of Palms. Can you recommend one of them (over the others) for ability for (1) public parking - a fee is fine, (2) ability to walk out (ex: on a boardwalk) to see, take photos of the beach, and ocean? We will not be swimming, surfing, etc. Just want to walk out, see and enjoy. We understand that Folly and Sullivan's both have nice areas of shops and restaurants - which we will take some time to visit after seeing, photos of ocean. Thanks again for the excellent video. Looks like you had a fun time.
What a beautiful day exploring Charleston.
It was a great day, thanks

Thank you for watching

Thank uuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍😀👍
Great video! I’m from Charleston. Very well done. I really appreciate that you do your homework and have a lot of historical context. Most people that do Charleston UA-cam videos focus on shopping and touristy stuff, but you focus on the history the architecture and of course when in Charleston you have to talk about the food!
The crazy thing is what you did is barely scratching the surface of how incredible Charleston is!
Unfortunately we are becoming a victim of our own beauty and success. Tourism is good but too much tourism can destroy the things people are coming to see. And so many people are moving here it’s changing Charleston and not all of those changes are good.
But awesome video! All three were fantastic. Very well done!
FYI I lived in Florida for a while and love Tampa/St.Pete, Miami and the keys. In many ways Charleston and the coast of South Carolina and Florida have a lot in common. So much history and the boating & beach & fishing lifestyle, but at the same time they’re very different. Because here the history is European whereas there the history is Spanish & Latin.
Next time you’re in South Carolina check out Beaufort!
Thank you very much. Yes, we recognize that in most places we cover we are really only giving the highlights. It gives us a reason to return to cover more.
I do hope Charleston does not suffer over tourism...but it may be too late. So many places are turning like that.
Thank you for the suggestion. We came across but several commenters have mentioned it. It is now on our list to visit.

Loved your video! Folly and Sullivan’s are my favorite beaches in the Charleston area. So glad that you and Gordon got to see the sunset on Sullivan’s. Whenever I’m in Charleston I try to go to Sullivan’s at least once to watch the sunset.
Thank you. Yes, so cool to see the sunset over the city from Sullivans.
There are actually 8 beaches in the Charleston area. Some of them you can only get to my boat. If you want to see a truly beautiful beach and a real beach town go just south of Charleston to Edisto Beach. Or go over to John’s Island where Kiawah Island is where they just played the PGA Championship and there is a Charleston county park that is part of Kiawah beach and it is one of the most beautiful beaches you’ll ever see. It’s the way beaches looked hundreds of years ago before people started living on them and removing the trees and making them look sanitized. It’s the way beaches looked when the explorers first came to America.
Thank you very much for the suggestions. I would love to return and cover them....but then they may become popular and yet change. We will return to check them out.👍

Are you guys gonna do a trip to the Florida Keys for us?👍👍
We are thinking about it. Fall seems the moment to visit for us. Thank you for suggesting.
There is a formula for working out the approximate age, to about + or - 50 years, of an Oak from its circumference measured at a certain height from where the roots are visible, will have to google it as cannot remember, school was years ago now. Or one can wait until it dies, is cut down and then counts the rings.
One can see why the houses are on stilts, storm surges must be a severe threat as so low lying. Glad to see protection for the flora and fauna there, the Turtles in particular.
Thanks for the information. It is fascinating to realize that that tree has seen several generations of humans and has withstood all the clear cutting for farms and housing development.
@@RenataPereiraTV It is said that an Oak takes 300 years to grow, 300 years to mature and 300 years to then die, so an Oak over 600 years is entering its dotage.
Careful Renata sis....🥰🥰🥰

Love Seeing All Of Those Cannon's And It Makes Me Wonder What It Would Have Sounded Like When They Was Being Fired During A Attack And That Fine Of $200 For Walking On The Sand Dune Yikes !
Yes, and continuous bombardment for days on end....scary.
The sea oats, the oat like grass you see growing in the dunes, prevents erosion. It’s natural. If you remove it you can be fined. They don’t want you messing with the dunes because the dunes protect the beach and also turtles birds and other animals use the dunes for nesting. So they don’t want you trampling on the dunes.
So cool the community tries to maintain the natural state
@@RenataPereiraTV All of those houses along the battery had people living in them when it started. Imagine sitting on the porch watching the bombardment of fort Sumter? That is mind blowing.
Yes, indeed

Hi I'm sanjay from India how are you and very long time after you come back why
Hello, thank you for watching. Yes, I am well and now filming again.
Great to see you in the face coverings
Hey, thanks!
Thank you
Other then they don't work, I think it's great you cover your face.
Actually there has never been any evidence that a mask was needed outdoors. That was fear mongering. Not only that mask are marginally effective even indoors. You have to have a true surgical mask, you need to wear a mask every day or sanitize the mask, you need to wear it correctly, and when you do all of those things correctly which very few people do then it’s only minimally effective anyway. And that’s real science.
Sadly the authoritarians overreacted and required masking outdoors which is actually anti-science. Outdoors fresh air getting sunshine vitamin C that’s actually how you boost your immune system which is the best thing for fighting Covid and wearing a mask actually is counterproductive for all of those things. And this is supported by the science.

@@RenataPereiraTV fine 😊😊
Fun mask for a fun day?
No such thing as a fun mask.
I've worn a mask about 5 times in the last 14 months. Shouldn't I be dead already???
In the background you can tell the locals from the tourists. The locals don’t wear masks. Actually there was never any science that supported wearing a mask outdoors but are authoritarian governments overreacted and required in many places. Even for a short period of time in Charleston. A mask is actually counterproductive when you’re outdoors because you want the fresh air or you want the sun on your face for vitamin D etc. It helps your immune system which is the best way to fight Covid. When you’re in parts of town that don’t have tourists you can tell the Democrats and Republicans. LOL. The Democrats are the ones wearing the mask. They love to virtue signal! It’s their smug moral superiority in their feeble brainwashed minds.
TOO MUCH YOU, WISH WE COULD SEE MORE LESS YOU
