  • Charleston, South Carolina is a historical city in the United States, full of things to do. We start the day at Fort Sumter, learning about the American Civil war, then head back to the historic district to enjoy the most beautiful areas: the Waterfront Park and The Battery.
    ► More about Charleston's historic center on the previous video: • CHARLESTON, South Caro...
    ► All videos in South Carolina, USA: • Myrtle Beach, South Ca...
    Charleston was once the richest city in the USA, and it was among the largest as well. Today it lives and breathes history. The best thing is that in the historical district you can walk everywhere.
    The original video is in English, this is an automatic translation to help you watch in your own language. There are subtitles as well, you can activate them by typing C (desktop) or clicking the video, then at CC at the top of the screen (mobile).

    ► WHO AM I?
    I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!
    P.S.: The funny guy who appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and he's actually camera-shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time 😉

    Hello Renata, I hope you're just fine! I am also Brazilian, I study modern languages at UFF. We've been studying about the Old Slave Mart at a Reading Workshop and I was doing further research about the city and (thankfully) I found out about your videos and your channel as well. I am enchanted by the way you express yourself and naturally present the places. It's so moving! Thank you for the passionate videos!

I imagine you saw it appears in my other video in Charleston? By the way, your English is amazing. You're definitely on the right career path studying languages 😀. Great video! Would you say you can walk and Uber most places or is it best to rent a car ?

    • @RenataPereiraTV
      @RenataPereiraTV  3 роки тому

      Walking is best for the city center. The geography is flat and there is always a place to take a rest. The concern would be middle of summer when it is hot a humid. Then you may want to take an Uber end of day.
      To get to the beaches you will need to rent a car. IF you arrive by air then check to see if your hotel has a shuttle or if there are airport shuttles visiting several hotels.

      Hi Geoff, yeah, we'd need to stay much longer in Charleston to show everything the city has to offer. We had to skip many nice attractions. Sorry about that.

    The most beautiful place in america in my opinion😍😍😍😍 ... They only say that there are many hurricanes, I don't know how true that is, do you know anything about that?

    • @RenataPereiraTV
      @RenataPereiraTV  3 роки тому

      Indeed, very beautiful. Yes, there are hurricanes and Tropical storms. One would have to research whether the city actually gets much damage beyond flooding and how often it gets a direct hit. Those would be kinda scary

    Wonderful video again! 🥰Just one correction... Fort Sumter was occupied by the Union (US troops). The Confederate troops occupied the Battery. Redwingfan already mentioned it but slavery was not the main issue of the Civil War...state rights was. To put it into perspective, imagine your port of entry being blocked (the Union troops occupying Fort Sumter) and then saying what was allowed to happen in your state (laws being enforced from the national government) ... this the reason the Civil War started. Your video was truly beautiful. To go to high school, I had to park on the battery every day because parking at the school was only for the teachers. 😉

    Remember the Morrill tax act was also a big cause , northern companies were heavily invested in southern cotton plantations. Remember northern factorys practiced wage slavery, paid workers literally a few penny's a day ,not enough to survive during the time . Workers mostly lived in labor camps that in most cases were equal to or worse than slave quarters anywhere in the south . Slavery was also practiced in northern colonies, later northern states, the slave markets in NYC were the largest in the young nation bigger than Charleston or anywhere in the south . Not defending bondage however proper context is needed to properly understand something that has been occurring since the beginning of time itself and in some areas of the world today is still practiced.

    The war was not about slavery. Lincoln made it about slavery. The war was about states rights. Lincoln knew the north could not survive without the south and the south wanted out of the United States. At the time the north also had slaves.

    It amazes me how you can have a city who's whole focus is on its history and the Civil War, yet there is no focus on what the war was about. We see the pretty buildings and cute restaurants but let's not ruin things by being honest about our history. It would be like going to Germany and seeing everything focused on the war, yet never talking about the Holocaust. It just white washes everything and ignores the real brutality of the slavery that went on there. That explains a lot to me.

      This is a visit to the beautiful city of Charleston , It is not a visit to a university class on the history of slavery in South Carolina.In essence should I go to all the UA-cam video's of people visiting Toronto and ask why the focus is not on the genocide of the Indigenous people there?. Get a grip.In addition slavery was in the 1600's ,The Holocaust in 1939-1941.Just recently the remains of 215 children were found in Canada at the Kamloops Indian Residential School,A school in operation starting in 1890-1978. We all have a long way to go as humanity continues to strive to be better and people who live in glass houses should not be throwing stones at others.
