I must say that military veterans need this advice. After 20 years of service, the small talk is normally nonexistent depending on the field

Excellent advice I wish I'd known when starting my career, but will use for my next career adventure.

I just saw this in my HBR Book List email and thought it looked interesting, and then saw your email about this interview a little later, so given that synchronicity, I had to listen!

Excellent advice. That is exactly how Corporate culture is. I would've loved to have this advice over 20 years ago....20 somethings..heed this advice.

Although I didn't know the connection process while first applying for jobs, I soon learned that referrals through people I worked with and knew became a driving force in my career. I reached a point where people would contact me and not even ask for a resume. The work I had done in one place literally opened the door to other work through referrals. Understanding relationships is very is essential. Great podcast!

@@TRINITY-ks6nw It's great you know this so young and are sharing the info. I had to learn it along the way, but I don't regret that learning curve because it showed me the way. Thanks for all!

One of the nice things about financial Independence is that many of these unwritten rules can be ignored or loosely followed if you're not totally dependent on next month's paycheck.
