I got my 1100 about the same time this video was made. I have added some Unique bin stops, a primer drop tube adapter down to a milk jug to catch used primers for recycling, and a case feed stopper to the case feed area. I also have the Powder Warning right after the powder measure, the bullet tray instead of the bin, and I added the hex key rack onto the old bullet bin bracket with a little bit of rework on the bracket. Big, big upgrade from my RL 550 I bought back in 1986. It was great and even had been rebuilt completely by Dillon and is still in service with a fellow gun club member. My 550 had by a SWAG, 750,000 or more through it. I've put about 20,000 or more through the 1100 without any problems. Great reloader! MSgt David R. Smyth, USAF, Ret.
*Has it paid for itself yet? I calculated something like 80,000 rounds at a savings of 10c to break even.* Unless you're rolling PRS ammo, it seems like you're still in debt.
Just a fun fact in case you didn't know, that custom foam packing comes as a little bag, you pop the inner capsule and as the chemicals mix they fill the bag with foam that hardens over time. Just pop the capsule and lay it on whatever you're packing and I makes it for you.
I was about to order my milling machine, and I almost forgot the digital read-out. Thanks for reminding me. There is no room in the garage, so it will have to go in the living room.
Me too, been having for a while now. With bullet feeder and Redding competition dies, FW Arms decapper, and also an On Point MFG upgraded tool head which allows me to have 1 more station than the stock Dillon tool head. Also, it’s on a Mark7 auto drive 😉 nice press but the Mark7 Evo has it beat and I have them both...
Yes! Would like to see the bullet feeder gizmo! And a caliber change operation from start to finish. I retired and sold my house recently, and I'm now trying to decide where to relocate to. Once I decide and move, I'll start up my presses again! In the mean time, watching you is second best! lol
I can attest to the quality of the Dillon Manual. I didn't know a thing about progressive reloaders, and was given a RL-1100 recently (new in a box) and told "Figure it out"... A couple hours later I had a nice stack of .45ACP ready to take to the range next week for test fire and Chrono. In the last two months, I've been using the RL-1100 (for .45ACP) and a new Mark7 Revolution (set up for 9mm). The Dillon is easy to set up and understand. Its manual helped me learn basic progression and technique on Progressive loading. Without learning from the Dillon RL-1100, there is NO WAY I could have ever figured out how to set up and run my Mark7. That things manual is horrible and the Revolution is MUCH more complex (especially with all the sensors). The RL-1100 is a nice unit, and affordable enough that you can afford one for personal use. Which can't be said of the Mark7, which you can by 4 or 5 RL-1100's for, and is not really what I would call "user friendly"...
that with the current "Ammo Shortage" it's beginning to look like a viable option. Anyone else noticing that since several law enforcement agencies are switching to 300 BlackOut in semi and full auto versions for CBQ, that it's now harder to find that caliber than 9MM! It's also amazing that ammo supplies are dictating what firearms individuals are purchasing; i.e. 40 CAL and 10mm.
@@imjustsaying...3720 well reloading supplies are hard n expensive to find now also... primers especially- heck certain pellets for the pellet gun are hard to find at the normal pricing also...
There are a few things this press has going for it that help offset the cost compared to the '750. The roller handle, case feeder, and bullet tray are not added cost options, and the additional height provided by the Strong Mount is not required. However, the '750 has some stations which do double duty. The casefeed and decapping/resizing are combined and the priming is combined with the powder drop (and case mouth flaring on pistol calibers). This is possible because of the back-stroking dual-action handle that makes all the magic happen! I do think this press could definitely use another station (or two), so points to Mark 7.
A minor issue that I see with many progessives is that there are not enough stations after powder drop. (which is not movable on this press) What I'm saying is if you want to have a station each for powder check, bullet feed, bullet seat and crimp. I know that you can seat and crimp in one die but then you don't have total control.
Re powder charge precision, dither helps a great deal. I repurposed the vibration unit from an infant swing and it greatly increased drop to drop consistency.
That is an awesome loader! VERY EXPENSIVE though. Yes add a bullet feeder and do a shootout of how many rounds can be loaded without a failure in an hour between the top 4 progressives, and please include the Lee new press as well as cost per round vs cost of brand/set-up. Thanks for this great work you do especially for the novice like me.
Gavin your the man with one hell of a plan. You do the best reviews. Throw that MR Bullet feeder on that machine and come up with something to load them primers faster lol
@@Ultimatereloader It's all good man. I give credit where credits due and you always been my favorite. You get in there and go after everything and can make anything work to its full abilities and your straight shooter. Oh by the way the garage is coming along great and your just about ready for anything these days.
I think that was bad ass, I want to start loading my own ammo, and I think if I can financial wise I'm going straight for this press and not single. I'd like to take a class, ill look for something locally. That was awesome. I'm machine operator I love doing things like this. Always something new to learn. Thanks!
Great video. I ordered a Mark 7 in place of the Dillon 1100. Hoping I made the right decision! I sold my Dillon 650 to help fund it. Looking forward to seeing the ultimate progressive press shootout. When might we see that come out?
How can you be making the ultimate progressive shootout when you're making all these side videos? 😮 I'm just really excited and look forward to it.. Great work Gavin!
As always, great video! How would you compare this Dillon 1100 loading experience with the Mark 7 featured in the video you did back in april? I mean both of them manually operated and I'd like a comparison in regards to "the human experience" like the smoothness when using both presses, how prone to trouble (jams, inconsistencies in setup, quality of loaded rounds, etc) they may be and things like that rather than "cold" numbers of technical data points (like number of stations and such). Thanks! ***EDIT***: whoops!! I just saw your video about releasing the progressive presses shootout on september or october. I guess you'll mention these presses there!
I need to get one of these. Also nice to see you using CFE Pistol with Berry's Bullets and Federal Primers. The only difference from this and my load is the Dillon Press and that I use range pickups because my range is just so full of them it's a never ending supply.
I have the Dillion XL650. I have maybe 20,000 rounds through it. Like, I load 9mm with 147 gr. RN bullets. I prefer X-Treme over Berry's because they are cheaper and find there is no decearnable difference between either brand of bullets. My load is 4 1 gr of CFE Pistol and my COL is 1.14 inches. My setup is different than yours in that I deprime and resize my cases before I run them through the reloader. I do this because I clean my cases using stainless steel pins, Dawn & Lemi-Shine. Then I dry my cases in my oven set on warm for 30 minutes to dry them. I have a rectangular shaped pan with a wire insert. I place a couple of sheets of paper towels on the pan to catch the stainless steel pins. I don't like the priming system on the XL650 because I can't see the primers. Every once in awhile a primer would flip and then I have to deal with a cartridge with an inverted primer. So I hand prime my cases using a Frankford Arsenal hand primer. It works great and unlike the Lee hand priming tool I used before, it has never had any problems with parts breaking. Wet tumbling the cases cleans the primer pockets and insides of the cases. After the cleaned cases are dry, I run them through a vibrating tumbler with crushed corn cob treated media with a little car polish added. This removes any tarnish and shines the cases making them look brand new. The car polish coats the cases and protects them from tarnishing. On the Dillion my first station has a case mouth expander die (Hornady). I have a RCBS ChargeMaster scale/ powder dispenser which I use to verify my loads. I put some upgrades on my Dillion press. I changed out the ball handled ram for a roller handled ram. I'm glad to see the XL1100 comes standard. I replaced the bearings with roller bearings and added a light so I get a clear view of the cases after they are charged. I also added a dial to the powder measure bar to make minor changes to the powder charge. I'm interested in doing a .308 case change. I'd like to see how the electric case trimmer works. So, if you would run a video showing that I would be very appreciative. Thanks for your video.
BEAT GODZ For the life of me I will never understand why so many people are running out and buying reloading presses. They even know they can't get powder, primers or bullets. This will only cause it to get far worse if they ever come back. I know someone that got a 750 and has run all over 2 States trying to find primers at any price knowing it will be much more than buying ammo. He even said I couldn't have gotten into reloading at worse time. Now he has a pile of money tied up and can't reload. I don't get it if people know there's no way to reload why go through all that.
Was planning to upgrade my pistol reloading from 5 stations to 7 stations, hoping I could to a powder check + bullet feeder + seat + crimp setup. With the way priming and powdering is setup on this press, I have no benefits „post powder charging“ compared to 5-station presses.
That press is a beast. Love it. I still love my 550 as well and does grest for me. Congrats on a beautiful press. Cant wait to see the conversions as well as a Mr.Bullet feeder. Great vid Thanks
Thanks, awesome video! Please do video with bullet feeder and could show how to setup the 9mm dies including bullet feeder, powder checker the whole 9 yards. Just to show a "dream setup". This kind of setup is in my bucket list.
This is all great...if you are a mechanical engineer, whose hobby happens to be competitive benchrest shooting. I'm just a simple bass player, who also happens to be a certified gun nut. The closest thing I have to the machinery you've got in the background there, is a handheld drill. Like the average Joe DeerTag, I shoot something well under a hundred rounds annually in my assorted rifles and handguns. The RCBS Rock Chucker II single stage press kit I bought over thirty years ago, still fills the bill for my hunting and shooting needs. I seldom need to assemble more than fifty rounds a session. As Sly once said, "Different (handloading) strokes for different folks..." 🤣
I would like to see a bullet feeder. Two different kinds of feeders to get a comparison. Thank you for your great instructive videos. I really look forward to more of your videos. Thank you so much, John E Smith
Been wanting one for so long, been debating for at least a month now whatever I really NEED it or I just WANT it. I loaded about 5k 9mm rounds recently on my Hornady, I even broke out bullet feeder that I had in the box sitting for a year (which BTW sucks) and it works overall but Dillon RL1100 is so irresistible and case feeder is so nice!
Man I've seen these dillon machines with all the bells and whistles attached and man they can pump out some serious numbers in crazy time. Wish I shit enough to justify getting the stuff to reload ammo. I'd probably reload 5.56 and .45 most often though
Great video, but I think it's for a designated caliber, caliber changes more involved than just swapping tool heads like the 650/750. But great in the 7 stations, just if I want 7 stations with removable tool head I'd go with the RCBS one .
I ordered an RL1100 on April 23. The first due date was July 23. In August, they said 2-3 more weeks. In September, they said 0-9 days. In October, they said there was a credit card error that had been corrected. (It was paid for in April). Basically, they were just making stuff up. I cancelled it and ordered a Mark 7. They assured me it would actually ship in 6 weeks. If anyone wants an RL1100, better wait until next year, Dillon is selling orders they know they can't possibly fill. Yet they have plenty of 1050's. No idea what the issue is.
It's extremely smooth but Dillon dropped the ball not painting it blue. For this reason I guess I won't be kicking my Hornady AP out of the bed. Actually I am impressed by the steadiness of the the shell casings traveling around ...smooth. Also the speed you were turning those bullets around and placing them shows it'll definitely keep up with the user. That was a speedy 100 rounds and for sure want to see the bullet drop installed👍🇺🇲
That wouldn't be molded foam that's them plastic covered. It would be a 2 part foam that's inside of 2 plastic bags inside the grey plastic bag. You break those 2 and mix it up and it expands. You pack the box as you go breaking the packets and adding in the foam bags as you go. Then it hardens perfectly around whatever is inside
I take a sponge and cut it up in four pieces and spray case lube on them and throw the quartered pieces of sponge into the case feeder bowl. That way you don't spray lube in the case feeder bowl and possibly get lube in the case and foul the powder.
Good video, I use Dillon case lube as in light spray, to me it decreases effort and operator fatigue on say a loading session of a 1,000 or more. Just my opinion.
Personally I don't use any on my XL 650. First, there is no space for it with bullet feeder, second, every sane person should not rely on powder check but to use his own eyes to check for powder. It's not that hard, you know… Last but not least, setting up powder check each time you use different powder or caliber is a pain in the ass.
I have the RL550B, bought all the extras too, this one is really nice but $1500.00 difference? just to complete my station with all the calibers I use, I am short $1300 still to get mostly everything i would like to have! ....and then, nothing is available now as far as reloading materials!
wish dillon had ability to have bullet feeder and powder check w/o having to combine bullet seating and crimp. seems like tight space to hand feed bullet compared to the 650
How about an explanation of the differences between the 1050 & the upgraded 1100. The new DC drive on the case feeder is so much louder compared to the previous near silent A/C version. I'm planning to remove the DC motor and fit the AC version cause that noise gets annoying.
Enjoyed the video. I am thinking of buying an RL1100 with a Mr. Bullet feeder. I'm getting confused may be because I'm not a reloader yet. Some people are running a separate die for both seating and crimping, and no powder check. Where others are running a powder check with a single die seating and crimping. What are the pros and cons? Thank you for your counsel.
I’m just trying to get into reloading and want to make a one time smart investment however, I have a question regarding going from one caliber to the next, does that require resetting everything up every time you make a caliber change? Thx
My first press is a dillon XL750 I spent at least $3,000 that sounds like a lot but that's for 8 calibers 9mm, .40sw .45acp, .357 .44magnum .223 .308 and 6.5 Grendel Tumbler caliper Flip tray Scale Hornady case trimmer Dies Caliber conversion kits Reloading manual Reloading trays Funnels Trickler Hornady comparator Case gauge Ammo boxes Percussion type bullet puller Rcbs bullet puller collets for each caliber Rcbs bullet puller I also bought a second lyman brass smith ideal single stage press to decap, swaggering crimped primer pockets and pulling bullets It's awesome I love it but I enjoy the fuss of it. I probably should have went with a turret press. If you want to save money and you're only going to reload 200 at a time go with a turret press. I have to admit I love all my stuff it's a great hobby you're going to love it. Good luck
Here is the question you hate. What do you recommend for a reloader, 308,6.5 Creedmoor and 9 mm? I loaded shotshells for years, no longer. Our son, grandson and I all shoot the above plus a few others less frequently. I would appreciate a starter kit recommendation for recreational shooters, (not top $). Really enjoy your videos, and as a previous Rocky mountain land owner I really like the mountain views. Bob
Stroke on that machine seems to be much more than on my 550B- you are really getting a workout! Also, you are using once fired brass, with no case cleaning, preparation or inspection?
so what is the consensus for reloading a lot,, mark 7 evolution or dillon rl 1100,, that 10 station press seems like the winner but what say the ultimate reloader? for 223 and 9mm
@@Panzerkampf Thanks, I watched your video on the 550C. I did like the way it seems to operate. Would the 750 be worth the upgrade with the extra stations or would the 550 be better for someone that is just getting started. So in 6 years it paid for itself. During panics you'll sit back and smile that you don't have the same problem
Can save a tonn if you get lead casting equipment and just make your own bullets too buying lead in bulk

Thank you so much,
John E Smith
How about a video on how to check your powder weights, what the process is. Are there any problems with the primer feed, like the 650 has.
That son of a gun is awesome. I want one.
New to your channel and really enjoy your knowledge. Great videos. Thx much.✌️🇺🇸
Wow that’s the nicest press I’ve ever seen! Add Mr Bullet feeder
Awesome setup 👌 bulletfeeder, then a motor ! 😉
Love to see the Mr. Bullet Feeder! Great video!
I think a Mr Bullet Feeder with autodrive would be legit! I have so much brass to reload but no reloader yet, so your research is my research.
That's a nice table I'm gonna steal that design
Been wanting one for so long, been debating for at least a month now whatever I really NEED it or I just WANT it. I loaded about 5k 9mm rounds recently on my Hornady, I even broke out bullet feeder that I had in the box sitting for a year (which BTW sucks) and it works overall but Dillon RL1100 is so irresistible and case feeder is so nice!
yes please add the bullet feeder
This is great...if you have a machine shop in your garage...
Enjoyed your video. Your very good at explaining all the details. I’m going to get a 750 r 1100. Just need a Lil more research. Thanks again.
Man I've seen these dillon machines with all the bells and whistles attached and man they can pump out some serious numbers in crazy time. Wish I shit enough to justify getting the stuff to reload ammo. I'd probably reload 5.56 and .45 most often though
It's nice but right now it's very difficult to find lead
..powder and primers to feed that Monster
Great video, but I think it's for a designated caliber, caliber changes more involved than just swapping tool heads like the 650/750. But great in the 7 stations, just if I want 7 stations with removable tool head I'd go with the RCBS one .
Primers? What is that😮😮🤔
Have a rl550 , bought it in 1987!
Still going good, but that 1000 is awesome!
You need to add s lighting kit to it. Really helps to see inside the cases
Amazing setup!
I take a sponge and cut it up in four pieces and spray case lube on them and throw the quartered pieces of sponge into the case feeder bowl. That way you don't spray lube in the case feeder bowl and possibly get lube in the case and foul the powder.
Just got the 750 and lovin it so far
Good video, I use Dillon case lube as in light spray, to me it decreases effort and operator fatigue on say a loading session of a 1,000 or more. Just my opinion.
Quite the upgrade from my forty year old 550b.
Can you do a reloading session for the time you put then in the tumbler to the time you shoot them
Definitely need a bullet feeder, you could also mod it to be full auto reloaded. I like this one a lot.
Bullet feeder, powder check and autodrive.
I think we need to see a Mark 7 autodrive compatible with it!
Definitely would like to see the bullet feeder. Also surprised you didn't show a Go, No Go gauge - minor detail but the proof is in the pudding.
I’d say powder check die is mandatory based on location of powder station.
This is a massive flex rn
Thx
My first press is a dillon XL750 I spent at least $3,000 that sounds like a lot but that's for 8 calibers 9mm, .40sw .45acp, .357 .44magnum .223 .308 and 6.5 Grendel
Tumbler
caliper
Flip tray
Scale
Hornady case trimmer
Dies
Caliber conversion kits
Reloading manual
Reloading trays
Funnels
Trickler
Hornady comparator
Case gauge
Ammo boxes
Percussion type bullet puller
Rcbs bullet puller collets for each caliber
Rcbs bullet puller
I also bought a second lyman brass smith ideal single stage press to decap, swaggering crimped primer pockets and pulling bullets
It's awesome I love it but I enjoy the fuss of it. I probably should have went with a turret press. If you want to save money and you're only going to reload 200 at a time go with a turret press.
I have to admit I love all my stuff it's a great hobby you're going to love it.
Good luck
Awesome. I dont think I'm knowledge enough to work and adjust that but its great.
Can you use a lock-out die for powder check with the Mark 7 auto-drive add on?
Obviously alot more press than i would ever need, but i enjoyed watching it make ammo.
Bob
I have a 1050 and have issues with my primer feed and bullot feed. Can you go over the proper set up for these features?
Would love to see the bullet feeder! Love the setup so far!
Stroke on that machine seems to be much more than on my 550B- you are really getting a workout! Also, you are using once fired brass, with no case cleaning, preparation or inspection?
They come cleaned and de-primed.
so what is the consensus for reloading a lot,, mark 7 evolution or dillon rl 1100,, that 10 station press seems like the winner but what say the ultimate reloader? for 223 and 9mm
Nice press and great video. Get the bullet feeder.
Like to see the bullet feeder then the motor for the loading arm.
Check out the bullet feeder vid! Yes, need autodrive!
Man, the 1050/1100 world be just about perfect if it had 1 more station after the powder drop. Then you could run a powder check AND a bullet feeder.
I can't imagine having an 1100 (or 1050) and NOT having a bullet feeder. Very jealous. I'd love to see this setup with 223/556/300BO or 308.
What would you suggest as my first dillon loader. I would like to load pistol , 357,44 ,45 longcolt and may be 45-70 to start with.
RL 550c, simple to set up and to use. Can make some good volume.
@@Panzerkampf Thanks, I watched your video on the 550C. I did like the way it seems to operate. Would the 750 be worth the upgrade with the extra stations or would the 550 be better for someone that is just getting started. I think this will be a good way to use my retirement time and have some fun too. I plan on setting me up a small shop to work on guns and reload as a hobby. Love guns, and shooting.
Thanks Ken
@@kennethbrown5247 id say buy once cry once and go with the 750
