The simple pleasure & satisfaction of a cartridge i built and shot.
I have 3 sq deal presses, a 550, a xl650, a lee classic turret, a rockchucker, a lyman turret, a frankfurt single stage and a Lee challenger. I am about ready to shoot for a RL 1100 to load 9 mm and 38's as they are the calibers that I shoot most. I also load for .30 carbine, 223, 30-06, 6.5x55, 327 Mag, 41 Mag, .44 Special, 45 ACP, 45 Colt and 50-90 Sharps. Due to a recent move the majority of my reloading gear is in storage and not handy. I have been forced to load my 9 MM's on a Rockchucker. I sprang for a lee bench primer tool and I love it. I also obtained a Lyman powder dispenser, a electronic scale, some loading blocks, 500 135 gr bullets, 8 lbs of titegroup powder and 1K of 9 MM cases. What a tedious job it was to assemble 9 mm rounds with the foregoing minimal equipment. I put together 135 gr bullets with a charge of 5.0 gr of titegroup. Great loading for a 115 gr bullet but way too much for a 135 gr bullet. So now I have to break down about 150 dangerously overcharge rounds so all my work was wasted. I reached out to Hoosier bullets and purchased 5 lbs of 124 gr lead polyomer coated bullets and I will load them with 4.0 gr of titegroup. When I get around to it I will load the 135 gr bullets with 3.5 gr of powder. I have the Lyman turret press here and I intend to use it to make my job a mite less tedious. Somehow to justify spending two grand or more on a RL 1100 I would really need. a great reason to do so. I am still looking for that as the xl650 and the 550 can easily produce 9's and 38's in the quantities I require and a at a much reduced price. Either way I enjoyed your videos on the rl 1100 and I do however lust for the expensive press but I cannot spend that much a whim without a solid reason to tie up that much capital.
Gavin: Also, I would recommend referring to the Station Numbers of the RL1100 as you did in the Mark 7 Caliber Change video. Indeed, as depicted on Page 14 of the RL1100 Manual, the case insertion is designated as Station #1 with a total of 8 Stations! Thank you!
Agreed, look at the shell plate, if there are 8 positions then there are 8 different things happening so it is an 8 station unit... Don't understand why this is something to think about...
Love my RL1100 - currently use a mini bullet feeder for 9mm ... maybe do a future review on Roll Sizer ... it has made a huge difference with my 9mm reloads for my Glock processing all brass and removing that bit of bulge from unsupported chamber fired brass
@@Ultimatereloader I just got a Mr. Bullet Feeder for my 1050, still working on adjusting the new powder drop/flair. Having trouble adjusting the bullet dropper setup, drops two bullets at once :( Can't wait to crank out another 50,000 9mm!!!!
Great content , good to see what it takes to tweak for best performance on Dillon. Running that similar Hornady Lnl AP, tweaks about the same , and agree nothing compares to just pulling the handle and watching the bullets drop into the tray.
31 rounds per minute. you can crank out 1860 rounds in 1 hour if you dont have to stop to refill anything or run into any issues. that is super impressive. spend 1 hour cranking out let's say 1800 rounds, 1 hour on final measure of 1800 to make sure weight and size are consistent (maybe I'm the only one who is that concerned about this). and that wasnt even rushing it, that was a modest speed.
A setup like Lee’s that inserts bullets below the seating die would be nice, so you didn’t have to dedicate a station to bullet drop. Having powder check, a bullet feeder, and separate seat and crimp on a 1050 or 1100 would be ideal.
Got an XL650 w/case feeder and powder check. Runs smooth except for filling up primers. Now that I've seen it, I'll probably get bullet feeder. Very nice set up.
I’m basically running this exact setup except with the Hornady AP press. Added a roller handle to the setup as well for increased speed/comfort. Runs like a top. Though I do really want to also get the RL1100 as a secondary press to run my 5.56 and 7.62 through. I like the RL1100 setup with the dies coming down, rather than the rounds coming up to meet the dies, cause at really high speeds, there’s a wobble to the whole setup that occasionally will drop a bullet after bulletfeeder station on the way up to seat/crimp. That only happens if I really get cranking on the press, but those are the speeds I’m after for rifle rounds, as I go through more of those generally. I would definitely consider adding a motor to the RL1100, though maybe wire to the powder check station to stop if the sensor goes off. I think this press would marry really well with a motorized crank. Then you can just set and forget reload, while just adding components.
Great video,, yours is so smooth. I have an identical setup and my 1100 head jumps on the upstroke when the expanding die on the begins to extract from the case after dropping the powder and expanding the case mouth. My machine had done probably 40-50,000 rounds when I purchased it used from original owner.
this is my problem also. His brass is probably dry-tumbled so the carbon acts like dry lube. I wet tumble mine or use new brass and that popping is really annoying.
@@shootloadrepeat I use some Dillon case lube on the wet tumbled brass and that helps a bit. I also had to take the ratchet off my press because of the jamming and then just make sure I full stroke the machine handle to avoid other problems. How old is your press ? I thought mine was possibly worn and that contributed to the powder funnel getting stuck in the case…….
If I were a rich man I would have a setup like that. I'm a new reloader. Running Dillon new 550. Enjoying developing pistol ammo for my USPSA guns. At this point I like to keep it slow and look at every powder charge.
Fun, Fun, Fun! That is one slick set-up! All you need now is to fab up an adapter so you can add a speed-adjustable electric-motor to the hand crank shaft, for truly automatic action!
Very nice . I’ve been running the XL650 for a few years now with a Mr bullet feeder the old revolver tube kit for 38 special an 9mm get around 110 rounds before I need to reload it but it’s only $180 Australian boys an girls .
Glad to see that with all the manufacturing slowdown and shipping delays they manage to give a free 1100 to UR so they could drive up demand for there product that they will never fill in the first place
You don't need a powder check. I have a 1050 that is fully automated and don't run a powder check. I the machine comes to a halt you manually check all the cases. Cause when it doesn't stop all cases will have powder.
I do not like seating and crimping in the same station. Makes getting things dialed in too hard especially with mixed brass. This is why I purchased a Mark 7 press with 10 stations. The extra stations make reloading with a bullet feeder and a powder check possible at the same time and keep the seating and crimping operations separate. I love my dillon presses as I have a 550B and A XL650, but when I decided to go big I went really big and went automated with a Mark 7 Revolution.
Would have to be doing a lot of shooting to justify this set-up. Plus, gotta be able to find bullets and primers to load with as well. I have 1000 small pistol primers and currently I’m saving them.
Did you have Star Line modify your powder funnel to avoid sticking with new 9mm brass cases? Mine stuck and Star Line fixed the dropper funnel for free.
Congratulations on your setup! I too run an RL1100 with the MBF; however, as I prefer separate seat and crimp functions, I use an Endoscope to monitor my powder drop levels. Can watch on a laptop, 10" tablet, or my iPhone. Since my powder level monitor view is mounted at shellplate level, it works very well for my "older" eyes! ;) Thanks for your awesome review! Thoroughly enjoy your Channel!
I use the same thing on my 650 for .223 reloading (with bullet feeder). For 9 mm I can see straight to case so no issues there. I just 3D printed an adapter to powder check rod hole on the 650 toolhead to mount endoscope camera there so it nicely shows powder in .223 cases.
How many times you had powder charging issues I wonder. I have been reloading 20+ years with progressive presses and had 5 rounds without a powder charge 12 years ago; when I ran out of gun powder in the powder measure. I now have a buzzer to let me know when I get close to the bottom since then...
@@aakoksal I started my reloading career in 1992 with an XL650. This was also the first year they were offered! FWIW, I have never had an over-charge or squib. But with the XL650's clockwise rotation, it's easy to eyeball the powder drop before placing a bullet. I now use an RL1100 with MBF, and since it's very awkward to "eyeball" the powder drop before bullet placement, the Endoscope gives me a direct view of the powder drop without having to adjust my view. And with the MBF, there's not an extra station that offers a "buzzer" to get my attention. Your running a powder measure buzzer? How ironic! 👍
@@wvultra I have two RCBS progressive presses (Old Piggyback conversion dedicated to 9mm and Pro 2000 auto-index for others) which are both 5 stations. I use bullet feeders so I don't have a station to spare for a powder checker. Since that 5 rounds of squib loads, I've decided to run the buzzer for long sessions where I know I'll need to top up the powder measure... I can see the new RCBS 7 station press in my future but need to win the lottery first...! Enjoy and be safe...
Pretty cool setup for the volume shooter. I did notice that you did a great job of editing in that you were just about to have the primer checker go off and then all of a sudden it was raised to the full position. That's the biggest slowdown in the process especially if you use the individual primer pick-up tubes. I found that using a Franklin Arsenal electric primer flipper that I could dump the primers in and flip them and then pull the clip on the bottom of the tube over the primer feeder and really smooth things out.
Recently sustained an injury to my left arm and hand. Reloading with any of my Dillons has been problematic, can't place the bullet ON the case. THis video gives me an OPTION to continue to load. Thanks!
I’ve been running the RL1050 with AmmoBot automation & Mr. bullet feeder for several yrs,.. with 9mm I change bullet weights and profiles quite frequently, so I find the Redding Micrometer seating die more accommodating than a combined manual hex head seat/crimp die. Though that powder charge sensor is surely inviting🤔. Are you planning to add either a Mark 7 or AmmoBot drive to the 1100? Keep up the great reviews!!!🤙🏻
NarrowIsThe Gate I have been buying F&F upgrades for the 1050, but haven’t extensively looked into their drive system. Initially F&F looks to be up and coming with their innovative drive system, tho having to send my 1100 to them for modification and having to manually adjust the magnetic set-points for dwell etc ..don’t lend themselves to quick adjustments for all of the various loads I do in volume. Great setup for brass prep! The clutch engineering is fantastic and mechanically dependable it’s just not for me with the availability of a touch screen operation at a similar price point.
How is the priming system on the RL1100 vs the XL750? Also one thing that's weird to me is that the XL750 has a lifetime warranty and the RL1100 only has a 2 year warranty... Seems backwards to me..
Incredible amount of very cool gear in your shop. I’d be happy just finding powder and primers for normal prices. People are selling primers for ridiculous prices. I know I know law of supply and demand. That law stinks! Doesn’t somebody make a foot pedal that replaces the reloading arm. I think a buddy of mine has one on his 1050 which is setup similar to your 1100. I seem to recall he turns on a switch and its fully automated or steps on the pedal. Wish I had an 1100. Running two 550B’s one with a case feeder dedicated to 9mm Major. Also RCBS RockChucker for rifle.
Believe it or not but my $20 Hornady bullet feeder DIE works very reliable with plated bullets from RMR, I ran 4000 without any problems, also works with cast bullets, mostly reliable. Now the bullet feeder leaves me desired for something better. So now that you going hyper speed, how are you feeding your primers? :)))) Also on magnetic powder check, do you get stuck powder to it that messes with your charges? I imagine the plunger touches the powder each time?
You probably answer this question in the first build video, but it appears that you're not applying significant pressure on the up-stroke to insert primers....is this now a down-stroke operation with the 1100? I wanted the 1100 for the additional stations but purchased the 750 to allow budget for additional equipment & components. I purchased my 750 a few months ago (way wrong time to get into reloading) and either have to be at the sporting goods store at the crack of dawn or pay through the nose to scalpers charging $200 for a $38 box of primers. Another excellent video! I am learning a lot and appreciate you putting these out here!
I just purchased my new Rl1100 and I'm waiting to buy the Mr. bullet feeder to start the assembly on my bench. I'm told that the bullet feeder comes in three versions--Mini, mid range and professional. What version do you recommend and what is the difference? I really enjoy your videos and look forward to viewing the caliber swap to .308 on the rl1100.

i found a lee classic loader for my 9 mm, and i was happy to find that
I have a few in stock and small Pistol, small ridker primers also. Dm for info
So glad I found this, I haven't been getting my notifications recently
Good deal!
I just ordered my own RL1100 with a mr bulletfeeder. Can’t wait to set it up
I have 3 sq deal presses, a 550, a xl650, a lee classic turret, a rockchucker, a lyman turret, a frankfurt single stage and a Lee challenger.
That thing is crazy fast. Makes my old hornaday ap look like a snail
It's very fast :)
Slow compared to the mark7 autodrive system....js
@@joemccallum710 also cheap compared to the mark7 lol :)
@@stuartbrazile u can automate a Dillion with mk7 autodrive
Great content , good to see what it takes to tweak for best performance on Dillon. Running that similar Hornady Lnl AP, tweaks about the same , and agree nothing compares to just pulling the handle and watching the bullets drop into the tray.
"Starline new brass" is what I heard while I'm inspecting my brass, some of it coming from 1992 when I started reloading for my Glock 17 gen 2😉
Congratulations on the video and explanation. you helped me choose my next machine.
A setup like Lee’s that inserts bullets below the seating die would be nice, so you didn’t have to dedicate a station to bullet drop. Having powder check, a bullet feeder, and separate seat and crimp on a 1050 or 1100 would be ideal.
Are you using the Dillon powder funnel/case mouth bell or the one that comes with the Mr. Bullet feeder?
Got an XL650 w/case feeder and powder check. Runs smooth except for filling up primers. Now that I've seen it, I'll probably get bullet feeder. Very nice set up.
That is ridiculously fast!
I have a Dillon 1050 with a mr bullet feeder to load 223 and 9 mm and love it.
every "kachunk" we hear, he hears "ka ching!"
Just got to 4:50 if you want to see the bullet feeder... I'm running a 1050 with Mr. Bullet. ;-). It's an ammo factory. 👍😎
Thanks for the videos. I really enjoy them. However I would like more closeups when your describing something.
I was under the impression that you couldn’t run a powder check die and a mr bullet feeder on the same setup. So glad that isn’t the case!
Quad County Productions - those comments have been made about the Dillon 750 not the 1050 or 1100
If I were a rich man I would have a setup like that.
Next step, mark7 autodrive with all the bells and whistles!
Im sooo close i can taste it!
Buying one! On backorder
You should mount another press to the side, both hands at once, big arms tons of ammo.
What a wonderful set-up! I guess I'm half way there with my 550
I do not like seating and crimping in the same station.
Mine stuck and Star Line fixed the dropper funnel for free.
starline makes a dropper funnel for their brass? Mine get stuck all the time and I hate it.
I found that using a Franklin Arsenal electric primer flipper that I could dump the primers in and flip them and then pull the clip on the bottom of the tube over the primer feeder and really smooth things out.
this would be my dream set up for sure,,now just got to find a place to use it and of course, the budget,,but thanks non the less
Nice setup
Recently sustained an injury to my left arm and hand. Reloading with any of my Dillons has been problematic, can't place the bullet ON the case. THis video gives me an OPTION to continue to load. Thanks!
Can you do a video detailing the differences between the super 1050 and the RL1100 thanks
Keep up the great reviews!!!🤙🏻
what about fast and friendly's drive?
NarrowIsThe Gate I have been buying F&F upgrades for the 1050, but haven’t extensively looked into their drive system. Initially F&F looks to be up and coming with their innovative drive system, tho having to send my 1100 to them for modification and having to manually adjust the magnetic set-points for dwell etc ..don’t lend themselves to quick adjustments for all of the various loads I do in volume. Great setup for brass prep! The clutch engineering is fantastic and mechanically dependable it’s just not for me with the availability of a touch screen operation at a similar price point.
Sweet set up you have there
Rumor said that he can beat anyone in an Arm Wrestling after one session of reloading 😊
Awesome! This is gonna be good!
OH YEAH!
If only I had that kind of money. That's a sweet setup.
RCBS combination seating and crimping die interesting I use Lee factory crimp die 9mm I've never had a issue with Dillon powder thrower
I use a RCBS bullet feeder on my Dillon turret press very similar to me bullet but with alum tubes worth every penny.
How is the priming system on the RL1100 vs the XL750? Also one thing that's weird to me is that the XL750 has a lifetime warranty and the RL1100 only has a 2 year warranty... Seems backwards to me..
Yeah, that's something I could use in my shop. I'm a little envious as well.
Pretty Sweet setup............................
Most of us reloaders don't use new brass because it is not cost effective. Have you used once fired cleaned range brass with out any problems?
Yes, as shown in the part 1 of this series!
I need this guy as a neighbor.
That is stupid fast!
Would prefer separating crimp from bullet seat, it does make a difference to accuracy.
Just my rl550b that rocks!
Puts my 100, 6.5 Swede day on the old rock chucker to shame .lol
You probably answer this question in the first build video, but it appears that you're not applying significant pressure on the up-stroke to insert primers....is this now a down-stroke operation with the 1100? I wanted the 1100 for the additional stations but purchased the 750 to allow budget for additional equipment & components. I purchased my 750 a few months ago (way wrong time to get into reloading) and either have to be at the sporting goods store at the crack of dawn or pay through the nose to scalpers charging $200 for a $38 box of primers.
Another excellent video! I am learning a lot and appreciate you putting these out here!
this loader does not have to push forward to load a primer, part of why it a tad faster per hour,
It seats primers on the downstroke, via a tappet.
Powder check isn't necessary if your measure throws good charges and you're using slower powders. Faster powders ok maybe
I am running a XL 650 with the bullet feeder.
Awesome hopefully someday
How much did you invest in the total setup to crank out this many per hour ? Nicely done.
I love this setup. My dream setup is Mark 7, my low budget setup actually is a Hornady AP. What’s the cost of this complete setup? My gf is into shooting since the whole pandemic and she wants to get into shooting and reloading.

So with basically everything done for you except pulling the handle, what are you focusing on?
When I started,,, I owned an Ingram M10,,, mod-ed to go full auto,,, at 4k rnds a minute,, it breathed fire out both ends,,,,, I reloaded with an old Lee Re-loader hand loader,,,, with a dipper and a hammer,,, I loaded ALL WEEK,,,, and shot it in a single burst that lasted about 4 seconds,,,,, it wasnt THAT much fun,, so I sold that gun,,,, later bought a Dillon after the LA riots,,, and over 25 years ,,, have purchased several loading estates,,,,, sitting pretty well now
I am wanting to upgrade from my lee loadmaster to a dillon RL1100 or a mark 7 apex 10. So my question is since they are similar money which of them would you recommend? And eventually I want to automate the process to load more
I'll buy that rl 1100 or the xl750 and everything it comes with off ya. Its worth a shot. I can not find a dillion progressive reloader anywhere.
What add ons did you purchase to make it work automatic like that, is the 1100 already have all the components for full automatic capabilities
How about a total investment cost? Awesome set up for sure...
