    You’re such a wonderful teacher! One of the best “how to” videos.
    If your speedometer turned on off or dimed by itself, it would be an electrical contact issue. No need to replace it. You could fix it by opening the speedometer casing, put 4 layers of electrical tape on 3 back supports that will touch 3 white round spots on the motherboard. This will create a pressure on the motherboard when closing, and create a constant electrical contact.

    Great video, thank you! I have a 2008 Honda Civic, and one thing I just found out, if your digital readout begins to fade, and your gas gauge doesn't read correctly (lights go opposite) you may not have to replace the unit. I had replaced mine about a year ago and the digital lights starting going our and fading again. It got me to thinking that the pins or the modular jack that connect to the pins may have built up corrosion over time. I followed the above instructions, removed the unit, then with my thumb on the locking tab, pushed the jack onto the pins and pulled it off, and kept doing that for about 100 times, just to make sure the pins and jack were cleaned off. After about 25 times, I blew off the pins on the back of the unit and blew over the top of the jack to get anything out. After doing this, believe it or not, the readout returned to normal! It must have had some corrosion that built up over time and this seemed to do the trick! To be sure, I drove our vehicle to a concert which was a little over an hour both ways, and the readout didn't fade or change. This may or may not work for everyone, but it saved me from having to buy another unit.

    This is a wonderful how to video. I just replaced my speedometer and it was so simple and quick. No hidden surprises because the video was so detailed. The two 8 mm bolt were hidden and hard to see. Thanks to this video and a mirror, I got to the bolts without much fuss. I bought my speedometer used on ebay and it works perfectly. Be sure to buy the correct speedometer for your car, as mine was a Civic Hybrid, and is different model number than a normal Civic. Check the label on the back of the speedometer.

Some information for whoever is attempting to install 8th gen civic SI cluster in their base model 8th gen civic: I installed both upper and lower SI cluster in my EX civic coupe. So I had to pull it and the head unit back in one piece. It took some doing, but they released and pulled back so i could get to the speedo. Not sure if I did something wrong, but try as I might the second piece would not detach from the head unit, and I was afraid of breaking it. Anyway, thanks again...

    If anyoneis watching this video because their fuel gauge is inverted and not lighting up properly (which is very common on this generation Civic), there is no need to buy a new speedometer the fix will cost you nothing and its so easy a toddler can do it.
    After following directions you can find on youtube on how to remove the speedometer, unplug the speedometer, you’ll see its easy to open, there are no screws just clips all around the speedo that nees to be popped out with a flathead screwdriver, once you pop it open find regular packaging foam with a thickness of 3/4 inch to 1 inch max. Then cut the foam to fit behind the speedometer internals so when you close it the speedo its nice and tight. I figured this out after I noticed when i push the speedometer around the fuel guage area it would work briefly, I realized a little pressure deom behind should do the trick and its been over a year no problems. If you have any questions holla at me.

      Once you get the old speedo out, as long as you plug it in, you should be able to at least see if it's working or not. You should be able to turn the car on too. But for the most part since you can't test before you buy, you just have to hope. I bought mine on eBay from a junk yard, but they also tested the part and confirmed it was working, which was listed in the listing.

    I have a 2007 Honda Civic, not sure if it is a ES, SI or just a plain sedan. We put the car on a car hauler behind a U-haul truck and took a trip, the front bumper kept falling loose from the front, and we kept placing it back on, anyway, we dropped the truck at U-haul and we were driving the car back home and the speedometer kept showing faster then we were actually going, it's off by 35-40 mph and is still doing it and we've been home a week. Could any wiring be pulled loose causing the problem? And where do I look first? Before this trip I had no problem with the mph malfunctioning at all. Any insight would be most helpful. The SI gauge cluster has red numbers, so yes there has to be. How easy that is to do, that's another question. You'd have to take the gauge cluster apart, and figure out what kind of bulbs it uses and go from there. You might want to try the forums and see if you can find anything helpful from the gearheads over there. If anyone knows, they will.

    • @nukem384

      Are you talking about on the bottom gauge? There's no mileage reading on this speedo gauge. You would definitely need new hardware to make that work. It's probably not possible because it's electronic, which means you'd have to mess with the ECU and unless you're really good with engineering/coding, probably not possible. Also, that might not even be legal as well.

      @nukem384  6 років тому

      got it, makes sense. i haven't really searched on how to turn mileage back on an electronic odometer, but im sure there's info on YT about that. im sure the dealership could do that, but they'll probably charge you an arm and a leg for something thats really easy to do for them.

    • @Currancchs
      @Currancchs 5 років тому

      The mileage recorded by the odometer is not of the engine, it is of the vehicle as a whole, since the whole vehicle wears out over time (i.e. rust, transmission wear, ball joints, suspension, paint, even wiring insulation!). Nobody is going to roll back an odometer for you because you swapped the motor. Asking a mechanic to do so would result in them either informing you that it would not be legal to do in your situation or angrily kicking you out of their shop, depending on whether or not they thought you were misinformed or asking them to engage in a criminal act and their temperament. Even if they were willing to do it, most wouldn't have the equipment or knowledge to do so. Although the dealer (most likely) could do it, they're only going to do it when you're replacing the odometer with a used one from a different vehicle so that it is accurate or in another special situation.
      To make sure that the resale value is kept as high as possible, keep your receipts for the engine purchase/install and advertise the vehicle as having "315km on the body, 20km on the motor" or similar. If you don't have receipts with mileage to show to a potential buyer, don't be surprised if they don't take you at your word.

    Does anyone know if this will make your engine light turn on if it's not working?

    • @nukem384

      Never did for me. All it's doing is relaying info from the ECU.

      @@bigxdaddyxsef It's possibly the curb hit jolted something in the gauge, which is causing it to not work properly. I mean, if you hit the curb hard enough, other things might've broke too, causing the check engine. Read the code and see what it's telling you is wrong.

      @@nukem384 I do believe there is a way to read the code without those code readers but I'll have to look in to that. Once again thanks for reaching out.

      @@bigxdaddyxsef It's a blinking system. The CEL blinks in a certain order and there's a sheet you can use that tells you the code. Google it, you'll find plenty of sites with it. Good luck!

    I won’t need to reprogram anything when replacing this speedometer correct?

    • @nukem384
      @nukem384  6 років тому +1

      target1172 nope. Its a straight swap. All the programming is housed in the ecu to prevent you from trying to “turn back the clock” (for the lower gauge)

    Where did you find another Honda speedometer?

    • @nukem384
      @nukem384  6 років тому

      good ol ebay. search the part number in the description and tons of listings will come up. way cheaper than buying from honda. a brand new one is like $300+. or you could do an online junkyard, but ebay is basically your online junkyard with more convenience :)
