    Do you know why the motor doesn't always turn when I actuate the potentiometer? Sometimes if it turns, sometimes it tries to turn but it doesn't.

    You can use it as magnetic levitation :) If the copper wasn't fixed, it would fly. Thanks

    Wow that thing looks so out of balance you better mount it on some dampers lol..also you do realize that the magnetic induction will cause a force and slow the motor considerably...

      Current going thru conductor produces magnetic field and changing magnetic field induces current in conductor. It doesn't matter if the conductor is magnetic or not.

      @@aivansama6265 but why do induction heaters only work with iron-based metal?

    • @aivansama6265
      @aivansama6265 10 днів тому

      @@_..-.._..-.._ Induction heating works generally fine with aluminium and copper, you can find plenty of videos about that in youtube. If you refer to induction cooktops, copper and aluminium are problematic, because their resistance is so low. With iron, the resistance is high, so current going thru it produces heat "easily". The cooktops are just designed to work with iron and detect if the magnetic coupling is not what is expected and refuse to work. Some induction cooktops work with copper and aluminium, they detect the material and switch to higher frequency to take advance of the current skin effect. With higher frequencies, the current doesnt penetrate so deep in the material and this increases the effective resistance and allows more efficient heating.
