I may be experiencing the same thing right now. I swapped the engine because the old engine had rod knock. I picked up the car a few days ago after ALL the service and it poured oil all the way home.
I met 2 people recently whos n54/n55 popped

Did you drop the pan? If the crank is still good, you can just install new rod bearings and bolts
When you don't prime the engine after major work, get a pre owned random junkyard engine, or when you buy an n54.... this is no surprise.
did you do a oil analysis with the new engine? this could have been cought before hand imo

Damn, that's why I stick to my N52. I've been told 100 times to swap n52 for n54 or buy 335i but I just don't want to risk it since I have no own garage or space, so I couldn't fix anything than just change oil or something easy basic stuff.

N54’s are so unpredictable. Fun but at what cost. Motors blowing left and right

Basically, all that matters with N54's, is previous maintenance and whether it's been looked after properly or not 🥲😂 Coz even if you look after it so well now, things could still go very wrong. Big ups my guy, love from South Africa 🙌🇿🇦

This happens when the engine is weak to begin with, who ever sold you that engine screwed you.
