A few good ideas. I have a Catch 120 NXT Pelican, and the only thing I've done is put an 8" dry hatch in the rear, and added extra pad-eyes all over. I'd love to install a transducer/fish finder... no so much for the fish, but water temp and depth/bottom contours. Instead of a kayak crate, I use a cooler, and put a divider inside. Gear extra stuff goes in there, and the other side is an ice pack/snacks/water. (if I need to throw a fish in there, no big deal).
I have that kayak as well. I'm doing the back hatch this spring, a kayak anchor rig and picked up a kayak sail. For the back of the seat I us a molle sheet so I can put whatever I want on there like a water/hydration pouch. I'm building an under seat drawer and looking at throwing on a trolling motor.
My guy...how have you not switched out the inflatable sidekick wheels to the railblaza ones? I had such a hard time putting the original wheels on at the end of the day 😅
I hear ya... I drag my kayak over from pretty gnarly stuff and want the wheels to give vs my track mounts. You are correct.. after a long day.. getting the inflatable wheels down and in the slot is a pain. When are they going to makke hydraulic switches for the sidekicks?
Very good video. I have my Slayer 13 rigged almost the same. I use strong magnets on the inside of my cockpit to keep forceps and clippers handy. I also have a rod holder on the back of my crate for my light/safety flag when needed.
Great redemption. At 18:30 your phone lit up and all you can see is what appears to be a Selfie? LOL Peddle drive blocks full view of your phone. Then at 20:34 while discussing the Rogue phone tether it shows your screen saver being a photo of yourself and wife (I assume or daughter?). I believe Chad Hoover did a video on kayak weight limits. I've Never weighed everything I put in/on my kayak including myself to see if I exceed it or how close I am? Great video as always.
Just brought my first yak 2 days ago, itching to get out and so Im absorbing tons of info until then. Those NATIVE KICKSTANDS are the coolest thing I've seen so far with any kayak! While mine is 40 lbs barebones, I can see loading up at the car and then carrying will be the best short and long term way to do things. Thank you for this, maybe a small thing in your whole video and build but it just changed my life in more ways than you can imagine!
This video is 6 months old, I see, and it looks like you are using the rudder alone for steering the NK180. I strongly suggest that you consider a modified tiller style steering. I ran my NK300 originally on my Slayer Propel 13 steering with a homemade hand steering (cables were sometimes an issue). I moved the NK300 to my ATAK 120, giving up the propel drive, using the foot pedals to steer. Foot pedal steering on a powerful motor to me was not smooth - somewhat clunky. I decided to move the NK300 back to my SP13. I made a very lightweight 7' long tiller by epoxying sections of broken graphite fishing rods together with a stainless eye on the end. I bolted an offset 12" yak track to the steering triangle that links to the eyelet to allow smooth, powerful motor control. I plan to eventually abandon the propel drive (I'm 71yo) and the big bonus is that any used trolling motor can be adapted to the propel slot, taking up minimal room, and gives me a power option for NK300 issues! I poo-pooed the tiller steering but not only is it practically free - it works well!
What is the opinion on placing a stabilizer (AKA outrigger) on a kayak? For me I am thinking of creating a DIY using the boat fenders for the purpose of safety in Tampa Bay? Also it is a no drill version attaching via pvc pipe in the rod holders on my jakson hosa kayak
On the RAM phone mount, does it come with the hardware needed to screw it into the hole in the Propel drive? Or would I have to buy an attachment separately?
Hey Wendell, I am subscribed and love your channel. Your video is one of the best outfitted videos where you provide links to everything a kayak maniac could want. I fish the coastal waters of Maine and run into a wad of seaweed every once in awhile. Like lily pads, it stops me dead in the water, I have to pull up my PDL prop drive and clear it, I am sure you know all about that with lily pads also. What do you do to clear your rear electric drive motor, assuming that you can collect a bunch back there too. With that motor not in reach, are you done for the day until you get back to shore?
To add to the reason to use a lithium battery vs lead acid, with a lead acid you shouldn't let the charge go below 50% or it degrades the battery. A lithium on the other hand, can almost be run into the ground.
Ive got a silly question as im goimg to get into a Angler Kayak for obvious reasons. Are electronics like fish finder and motors necessary? For a beginner anyway weather in a tourney or just fishing the yak for more experience? Awesome video by the way 👏
Not silly, for a beginner I recommend starting out bare and then as you get into purchase the items that make it a more enjoyable experience for you. That’s all that matters
I'm looking to get my first pedal kayak, I've been watching a lot of your videos. If you had to suggest your top 2 fishing pedal kayaks, what 3 would that be? Keep it under $2500
I have lost one phone to the fish gods, a Motorola flip phone that came out before the razor. Lost it when I dumped my canoe back when I was a teen. Sad day, no trout either.

Dude have you done a video of actually launching this thing? What's your process with all the gear?
Not yet
Wow!!! Go Go Professor Gadget. Ready for anything you are. Good job on the video.
Thanks! 😃
This video is so good! Thank you for helping us beginners out here. Awesome!
Appreciate that, glad it was helpful!

Great video especially the DYIs which I like doing myself.
Awesome! Thank you!
Very nice setup D, next is that FFS 😊.

You will need the hardware: here ya go ua-cam.com/video/HJmHhzBGbKk/v-deo.htmlsi=srHV9-yI4PyKMlJ3
Thanks man, I appreciate the help!
Great video but can't help thinking this guy got tanked on caffeine before turning the camera on. Gonna subscribe fer sure
Red Bull Gives You WINGS! :)
Thank you for the good ideas
Most welcome 😊
Wont the six trolling rods get stuck on each other?I think it would be better to space them out at different widths and intervals to prevent tangling
I don't troll with more than two at at time

I usually just put the reverse cord.. lift it out of the water... and then run it full speed in reverse and that will clear it much of the time.
Love these videos!!
Glad you like em boss!
That sucker is decked out for sure. I’m curious how much weight (kayak+gear+angler) that NK180 is pushing and what the top speed is. Thanks.
I can't help you on the weight.. something that I am now interested in. But the NK18p pushes me at 4.5MPH constant
sweet setup
Thanks boss
Good video great setup now get rid of that crate LOL I know u love it though
I do love that thing… I will upgrade when someone makes a bungee top
Do you have any videos for your sidekick installation?
Sorry.. not yet!
@@wendellfishing I’ll be watching for it! Thanks!
Can you add pedals system on a regular kayak?
Typically, no
Man what’s your thought on the BKC tandem dual trolling motors? Looking for something for wife and I
I personally would never buy a BKC
@@wendellfishing what tandem would you use preferably trolling motor

Where do you guys keep your catch?
I just catch n release
Why rod holders behind the seat, not comfortable, am I right?
I mean.. there are other options with horizonal rod holders. Personal Preference
@ isn’t it difficult to get your rod while seated, any risk of falling to water while doing it?
Does the rudder turn well while using motor?
Absolutely..... not :)
