This is absolutely amazing. I had no idea parents made their kids do anything these days haha in fact, I am doing research to get grown adults to learn how to do chores. It's so clear that many people have kids and never make them learn anything they'll need to run a house as an adult.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad I've been able to be an inspiration and a guide. Better late than never, right? Don't beat yourself up too much about it.
I haven’t watch this yet but the reason I am hesitant to do a chore chart is because my three-year-old currently loves participating in chores. She loves the opportunity to clean her all of the dishwasher were clear the table. So what are other consequences she could earn?
The thing that worries me is that my kids are 12, 7, 5 and 2, school mornings are tough getting everyone up and dressed, teeth brushed, lunches made, hair done, shoes, masks, backpacks, snack, school iPads, water bottles filled and in backpacks by the time the bus comes. Then, the bus doesn’t bring them home until 4pm, and about 5 months out of the school year they all have soccer practices right after school making it hard to even find time for dinner and homework on some days. I feel bad piling on chores during the hour or two they’re at home before bedtime. During the summer it’s easier to have them do their chores before they go outside to play. I guess I just have to balance it all. These years are tough, but they’re a lot of fun 🥰. I just want my kids to be good people who are also happy and healthy.
I hear ya, I'm struggling with the same stuff. Feels like those few moments before bedtime are the only time they have to just sit down, be bored and get the creative juices flowing. Maybe I need to delve a little more into this system. Still, really appreciate your comment. *fist bump*
May i suggest packing the bags or most of what can be packed the night before? Of maybe just 1 or 2 small chores that won't take them too long. Maybe prepping their stuff for the next day as a chore?
I want to give my children a childhood, not be enslaved from too young in age to chores. Definitely want them learning all the needs of taking care of a house/ themselves as they get older. For myself, chores were brought in young and were used as manipulation. I was never taught some fundamentals of taking responsibility for a house but managed to learn as an adult. We did what *they didn't* want to do. I do believe finding a balance so our kids don't think as my siblings & I did - "I can't wait to have kids to be my slaves and do the chores." Your choice in having kids shouldn't make them do more because of whatever excuses you come up with. They definitely need to learn to work together, but they deserve to be kids, too.
I most definitely agree that children should have a childhood! From what I've seen, children are best prepared for a successful adulthood by learning life and behavior skills early on in life. When taught young, they provide consistency for deeper learning as the children get older. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I'm glad you felt comfortable enough to share yours. :)
Yeah, 3-4 definitely seems too young to be responsible for vacuuming or laundry. A toddler could barely reach into anything top loading! I think unloading silverware is a more appropriate chores for this age group. I remember plugging a vacuum cleaner back in when I was vacuuming before age 5 and it shocked me.
@@TeachingSelfGovernment well they did a great job so hopefully you appreciate it! That’s a lot of work! My old house had 750 square feet of hardwood floors and I remember dust getting under the coffee table and couches too. I know it sounds crazy but, I have an area rug under my dining table because I prefer vacuuming so much more.
I don't have chore charts written up. However, this video tells you how to make one of your own that will fit your family's needs and children's developmental level. Thanks for asking!
Excellent advice. I never thought of typing one up on my own… your children are growing up well

You are my go to, for inspiration, guidance and 🙏 although I have a hard time feeling guilt for not starting earlier.

Can you post an actual chore chart and/ or give chore ideas? Does each child have their own chart or is there one family chart and they pick from it?
hey nicholeen thanks a ton. I needed how to do chore chart. its apt, practical, not boring. hoping ill be able to follow it with my children.
You're welcome! I hope it was easy enough to follow and replicate in your own home. You've got this!

That's great! The whole idea of consequences is to teach cause and effect. So, it's totally fine if she likes to do chores. That's a bonus!
@@TeachingSelfGovernment so it won’t make her associate chores with negative if I do that?
Genius !!!!

I am begging for information about the brand name or link to this green blouse.
The brand is "Cocomo Woman." I hope that helps!

I am just wondering who cleans those kitchen floors, and I feel bad for whoever has to do them! I prefer lots of carpet! 😊
I don't know! I go to a studio to film, so I'd guess it doesn't get too dirty. :)
