      What options do you suggest for small and belt carry. I carry and I'm very skilled , but I'm always seeking uogrades and more skill lol, I think most of us do. At 45, I've boxed, have 2o years of different martial arts training and fights, but my true love and passion has always been weapons, knives and batons mostly.
      I'm seeking the best behind the belt or waist carry, about 1.5 inch blade, hand and finger guarded knife for edc. I've seen what a slipped hand looks like, and while defending chances are blood will get on that hand, so having guards is very important to me. I did have customs knives made for me, and they are absolutely perfect, but costly, and I need to get some for my sons and daughters now, who are older and moved out. I did train them, but again, this is real life, an attack by surprise from the rear allows for 6 seconds before the lights go out, a bit longer for someone who understands and stays relaxed and moves quickly, but not much. I find a small blade is the absolute best, it allows speed, enough edge to attack hands and arms , and long enough to cause damage to the leg of the attacker as well. Hopefully disabled at this point, but if not, they will have to ket go, allowing for a longer blade or firearm to be used.

    In past, i carried a (small) fixed blade most in scout draw. Now i think, weak side cross draw is much more practical. Great video. Thanks from germany, Michael

    There is something I really like about this knifes sheath set up. The blade is opposite the clip. I think that's excellent. To many sheath are made where your pulling the blade out against the clip... yours is the way it should be done! Well done sir...

    100% agree, I used to carry folders. One of the pet peeves for me in most knife training courses is they NEVER go over the ABC's of deployment. I teach both folder and fixed blade defense. my personal preference is fixed blade. One thing to consider, a short fixed blade ,,,attach a piece of thin kevlar cordage to the end of the sheath...you can pocket the knife in a front or back pocket. loop the cordage around your belt. when you pull the knife the sheath comes off the knife and cordage retains the sheath.. With some practice the kevlar cordage can also be used as a control mechanism...this method allows for better concealability for shorter fixed blade knives.

    Just saw your demo. Nice job! I like to cary my fixed blade at the center of my body. The same as you. I move my belt buckle over and skip one loop to the left. The belt buckle is now off center so my knife fits flat on my belt. This helps in two ways. One it keeps the knife and sheath flat and when you cary your side arm the handle of the knife is not to close to your pistol messing with your draw of the knife. This helps me with my right hand draw. Thanks for the demo.

    I carry most of my edc fixed blades horizontally at 1 o'clock in Bradford sheaths, including the Bradford 3 & 3.5. My Creely Mako (green) and Jason Knight Jurassic Bird & Trout (purple) also fit great in these sheaths. My Pro-Tech Les George SBR fixed blade (orange) fits ok in that Bradford sheath, too.
    I prefer horizontal carry because vertical carry sticks me in the side, especially when sitting, and is fully exposed.

    I just found your channel and became an instant subscriber.
    I used to carry a double edged SOG Pentagon, then 2 years ago I had a stroke and am in a wheelchair most of the time. Let me tell you from experience, a double edge is a damn good way to cut yourself! (Done it a few times.) Flippers and OTF's take too long to deploy in a self defense scenario. I'm now in the process of trying to find __that perfect single edge_ to serve as a backup to the revolver I carry (remember, stroke. The left hand is useless. It's difficult to operate a slide one handed), so I've amassed quite a collection. I most definitely *_DO NOT_* recommend carrying your gun or knife in your EDC bag if you are in a wheelchair;
    *1)* *_You are in a wheelchair_* The critters will see you as an easy target. You don't want to be digging in a bag for your weapon.
    *2)* If said critter gets your bag, you are now defenseless.
    I say this from experience. I've had to use a knife twice to get a critter off me since the stroke. The surprise and shock on their face was priceless. Weak side cross draw if you are in a wheelchair is definitely the way to go.

    I do leather working too so actually put button snaps on my belt and crkt minimalist sheath and it’s where a belt buckle would normally be. It’s not noticeable wearing a t shirt and can be drawn with either hand. Not a fan of crkt but it’s the sleekest option I could come up with. If you had a similar product with better steel I’d get it. The knife design and finger shape sold me on it. Carried it there for years as a trucker.

    Guys miss out on being able to use a bra to conceal carry. I am thin, so I can not carry stuff on my waist like some men can. I carry a 13" (7.5" blade) Cold Steel San Mai Tanto II under my right armpit using a paracord cross shoulder harness with the blade pointed up and back. This style allows me to turn my left shoulder forward to conceal my right hand reaching up under my shirt and drop and draw the blade from a Kydex pancake holster with the blade facing the outside of my forearm and completely concealed until I expose my forearm which reveals the blade side to the attacker already in a defensive position and with NO TELEGRAPHING that I have a weapon in that hand. I can then draw my firearm with my weak hand (you may want to do it opposite, weak hand knife, strong hand gun). I guess if you have Dunlops, waist carry is better. For skinny chick like me it will always be stealthy, fast, and sassy. I've always got the drop on the guy who has to draw. 😁

I can get it easily, and its nearly invisible to others. I mount it just above the adjustment clip, which makes it stay put very well. Folders have a place for general task and some companies make some good blades. Myself and many other people choose to carry a blade for more than general task...like defense. For a defensive application deployment time is slower on a folder, they mount in your pocket which limits accessibility to only the side your carrying it on, if the folder doesn't lock up all the way in the heat of the moment the consequences to your fingers can be devastating. Many a person has lost fingers due to a lock failing. Folders are typically horribly balanced.
      A fixed blade has less failure points, can be accessed both strong and weak handed, is better balanced (mine are at least) and generally are more robust for heavy duty task like prying.

    I have always used paracord tied off to the belt and then. tied to the sheath. It's a short piece of rope. to where I can tuck the blade in my waistband. Don't have to worry about it dropping. And then when I deploy the blade, I just have to. grab the knife and pull. it. I just have to grab the handle of the blade and deploy the rope will hold the sheath back. Just a simple setup I use for pretty much. any situation. on any fixed blade with a sheath.

      @@TkellKnives that’s the point I am trying to make- if you COULD carry a “large” blade, you would! Whether that means concealed or not, a “ large “ knife would then be considered EDC. I personally live in “remote” Alaska. But believe me, even here we have tree huggers and anti gunners. So I keep my 9 1/2” Bowie concealed. With a big knife, no need for three knives and a prybar! I have used my Bowie to hammer nails , pry open doors, even carved out a door to facilitate a code lockable door handle. And I still pull it out to cut my steak at the local events. I love the looks I get! The men I sit with love it, but it also gives reason for the tree huggers to hate, unfortunately. Those that scream tolerance have none.

I've carry AIWB for my handgun, and ive always IMAGINED i would carry a knife sidways on my belt on my left appendix area. However, its highly unlikely that you'll have both the knife and gun out at the same time, so would AIWB also be best for knife carry in this situation? Like you said, muscle memory is key.

    Thank you for these excellent lessons! What thoughts do you have on carrying a Fairbairn-Sykes commando knife? Too long to be comfortably concealed? Is it possibly the best possible example of its kind? Thinking of the utility of a blade that is six inches or longer for deep penetration from different angles of thrust. Also, what kind of sword cane to carry for self-defense, and how.

    • @TkellKnives
      @TkellKnives  Рік тому

      That is a big dagger to try and conceal carry. What’s “best” depends on your training and preferences. I’m not versed in cane or sword use so I can’t really offer any useful information on them.

    • @kaoskronostyche9939
      @kaoskronostyche9939 Рік тому +1

      The two best choices for sword cane are the Cold Steel and the United Cutlery Night Watchman if you want a long blade. Both have 24" narrow backsword spear-point blades with a half-length "false edge" which is sharpenable. The scabbard tubes are both heavy, thick aluminum suitable to be a club in the weak hand for a guard. I chose the Night Watchman because it has a 1065 Carbon steel blade bolted to the handle with four tec head "Chicago screws."
      The Cold Steel has a stainless steel blade fastened with two or three split pins.
      I prefer carbon steel for anything over 20 inches and carbon steel is more likely to bend and return if you hit something hard in the thrust. The Night Watchman blade is perfectly stiff enough to penetrate anything penetratable.
      I think the bolts are stronger and allow easier modification if you want a install a different handle. Plus the Night Watchman was about 20 dollars cheaper.
      VERY illegal in most places but a well dressed old man with an elegant black cane will attract no attention except from the predators ... and my goodness, will they be surprised.
      The scabbard tubes come long, so if you want to shorten it to use as an actual walking aid, shorten it from the bottom. The top has a machined flange to allow easy return of the blade to the scabbard. The UC version comes with a hard foot not suitable for actual walking use but the hard food is intended as a thrusting point.
      Run the hard tip under boiling water to expand it and it will easily come off preventing any scratching from trying to cut it free. Replace it with a one inch drugstore cane tip after shortening and you are ready to go.
      Before you cut it to length (I used a hacksaw and a mitre box) be sure to push the foam tip retainer up into the tube so you don't cut it.
      Mine is beautiful, elegant cane with a great handle perfectly suitable for a night out dancing. I use a Cold Steel Tactical Axe Head Cane for the rough and tumble of every day use - it is a great club. Plus I carry a pepper spray and two to three knives.
      Hope that helps. Cheers!
