the amount of existential knowledge i gained from studying the premise and watching both versions is something that changed me forever.. in turn, it changed the world, because who i am and how i effect others was influenced so much. it also helped me to better accept death.
Hmmm, I love to listen to this kind of music when I'm in those conditions. Loneliness doesn't get me but when I'm depressed, this dark feeling, ironically, gives me warmth and the knowledge of the fact things can always go worser and it helps pack myself up and realizing that I'm on a higher level then my problems.
Wow. Exactly. You see how dark it can get for you, then analyze everyone else's strife and see it gets so much darker for so many people.. It helps and comforts, because now we know doom is certain. There is no turning from it. An embrace with an end is ordained.
I get chills from listening to this song. I just watched Donnie Darko for the second time and after this end theme I just sat there in absolute silence for about 20 minutes doing nothing but think. Awesome.
Man, I find the ending to be very sad, but this movie wouldn't have been this good without it ending that way.. Why do the best movies have to be so damn sad?
Because life is usually more often sad than offering a clear cut happy ending à la Hollywood. Which is all the more sad if we see how Hollywood gives us crap for the last 12 years.
i havent listened to this song in so long, it still give me shivers from its beauty with a hint of sadness in the vocals. brilliant movie, nothing will compare even close to it
The exchange: "Why do you wear that stupid bunny suit?" - "Why are you wearing that stupid man-suit?" which has become sort of the pallbearer of the film is the one that intrigues me most I think about Richard Kelly's masterpiece here. In my mind, it's kind of the Smells Like Teen Spirit line of the film for people who don't know it well or know it in-fashion, and comes to represent something which I think a lot of folks don't understand about Donnie Darko: it's a superhero film. As Richard Kelly says in the commentary, "Donnie is a superhero, when he's sleepwalking," and when Frank shows him the portal to Jim Cunningham's house in the theater, I really believe (IMO) he's asking Donnie in a kind of ostensible way "Why are you running from your destiny? You were chosen, you have a task to complete, and time is running short." Donnie does many things at Frank's behest, but he does them in an element of fear, confusion and paranoia. I feel like Frank is asking Donnie to embrace this time-oriented tragedy and to do it with the courage and knowledge that he is the "Living Receiver" (for those who know the Directors Cut well) and is tasked with an almost holy mission. That aside, it really is a beautiful film and a stunning first feature work by a director who has now unfortunately all but faded into obscurity. Here's hoping he does whatever the fuck Donnie-Darko-related work in the coming years.
This is one of the most compelling, yet difficult, films I have ever seen. The characters are complex, the story itself borders on possible madness and yet i found myself drawn to it because it like this has some sort connection to myself. I think, at one point or another, we all feel like a Donnie Darko. We cannot understand life, or the mystery's behind it, but we just run with it anyway. Just to see where it will take us...and when we finally do, we can all have a good laugh and be happy.
everytime i hear this and thinking about this bunny.. i just imagine that he putting his hand on my shoulder and he just take me back to one of my life's random part . Awesome!
Welcome to the comments section. We are here for you. We also think this song is really beautiful and we're glad that you are here. Don't get too sad though, ok? Someone out there does love you. You're not alone.
The only film I have ever felt like crying during. this song is one of the most powerful and amazing songs I have ever heard accompany a film. It is a testament to this film and this film will echoe throug the next century.
its one of those movies that you can understand when you watch it a couple times over but are never able to articulate it into words to help others understand
Movie is wild, the fact that Donnie has to sacrifice himself, he gets a chance at a good life, only to be taken away because his destiny is meant for something else, he’s meant to die, he can’t live the life he wants, because if he did , the universe would collapse on itself.
ive known about this movie since i was a little boy, the haunting image of the rabbit immediately peaked my interest and i was imagining how the movie would be. i only recently got around to actually watching it and it exceeded all my expecations. what a stunning piece of art. even if you dont understand the story at all, the individual scenes are so well done and touching, it doesn't even matter that you probably only got a fraction of what's really going on.
It’s a great movie. Donnie is a Shakespearean character in a way. His backstory is tragic, he undergoes a pain staking character arc and is handed a tragic ending to deal with it.
if you find yourself watching this perfect film over and over ,you probably have a subliminal connections and your soul is trying to tell your concious mind what is goin on ,it could be trying to tell you you if you are dead,in a tangent universe or trapped in your mind :) love the film
Actually, I'm a female service member of the US Army, stationed in a cavalry unit in Fort Campbell, KY. But thank you for the random crude assumption. And little did you know, my daughter loves Twilight Sparkle.
Actually, it is available on 'a' Donnie Darko soundtrack, but one that was only released in Europe. It's a 2 cd set--one having the pop eighties songs, the other having the background classically oriented stuff. Good luck tracking a copy down. . .
i really really love this song , it puts me into a trance like state , i have told my wife that i want this played at my funeral when they are lowering me into the earth !!!!!
This film is taking you by the hand, gently, and draws you deep inside a swamp of depression, madness and mental disturbance. And then it''s letting you fall...
i have requested that this be played at my funeral as they carry me into the church , full blast on the church speakers , followed by AC/DC back in black !!!!!!!!
For whom the bell tolls. Beautiful. Have you ever seen a portal? From then he knows there is no way out and must walk towards it to save everyone, but chooses not to save himself. Tragic movie, one of my all time favourites.
the whole point of the movie is for it to have a specific meaning for you... the director intentionally left it open so it can be up to you to interpret it in a way that is relevant to your life
There are so many different dimensions. What if a drunk driver didn't drive and kill someone? what if we never met? I love this film. it has so many deep levels of what fate is and where we actually belong in the real world dimension
I've just finished the film, and now my mind is crashing and crashing again... It is sooooo strange :O My mind is in ruins, because I cant understand the film on the level I could tell myself the story... but somehow I feel I understand it with my soul... Sorry if you cant understand it, but as i said, my mind is in ruins :)
One of the most abstruse yet staggeringly outstanding movies in the history of film...wake up Donnie.
I love watching and drifting into Donnie Darkos world.Movie really is ahead of it's time.
it's kind of eerie the coincidence with the airplane imagery. a psychic premonition on the screen writer's part?
visicircle and the release date.. January 19... 119-911

Very true.
Never has a movie and its soundtrack complimented each other more.....Finishing watching Donnie Darko is like waking up from a prophetic dream......
"'Donnie Darko'? Sounds like a super hero."
"What makes you think I'm not?"
A savior who transcends time and space, life and death. I'd say he was a superhero.

Along with Blade Runner this ranks as the best movie I have ever seen.
as soon as i was done watching it for the first time.. i sat there reeling and vocalized that it was my favorite. It is so heavy.

this movie is one of the best ive ever seen.
I love every fuckin second of this movie.

Because life is usually more often sad than offering a clear cut happy ending à la Hollywood.
Which is all the more sad if we see how Hollywood gives us crap for the last 12 years.
This part of the movie, when Frank visited him in the cinema, was just epic. I felt detached from my own body from the music!

This song its so deep, even sadder when you know his story and self sacrife. Donnie Darko for life.
