I cannot think of one film as creative, deep and meaningful as "Donnie Darko". So strange, complex and creative you'd swear it was written by an alien race far more advanced than us.
I just watched Donnie Darko the other day, for the first time. I can't believe I hadn't done so sooner--such an amazing movie, and every little twist was great. The sci-fi part of it was a pleasant surprise, as well. As for the soundtrack, I like hearing it without all the movie dialogue on top of it. It's full of lovely synth!
I went as Donnie Darko for Halloween at West Chester and was approched by a college student; he looked at me with a dead cold stare and said, "donnie darko was a life changing movie". His wording was a bit deep, but it definatly is a moving movie.
Best movie. After watching it a third time I got it all figured out. But that doesn't mean im not going to watch it anymore! :P. My favorite of all time
Thanks for posting only the compositions of Michael Andrews from this score! The rest of the soundtrack is great too, but I'm going for an ambient study vibe here, so this is perfect.
The only film that comes to mind when thinking of creativity and complexity like that of "Donnie Darko" is "A Clockwork Orange", and that film was based off of a book.
I study film at college, and still don't know how to describe this film, it's literally one of the only films where I haven't known what to say at the end.
I think this is the best movie from an US director, it's so deep when you don't know how to interpretate the main idea from the movie. I saw an interview with Richard Kelly and he says this movie is a critique to the school system but I think the main idea goes farther than that. In some momments I actually think I'm Donnie Darko, I've kinda felt what he appears to feel in the movie and no, I don't use drugs lol but I suffer insomnia and I do really feel like him in some points. Epic Soundtrack
I love how the Director's Cut, defines a lot of the detail on Time Travel, makes people understand the movie a lot more I think. But in the Original I love how perfect the sounds and music are on the scenes. -Does anyone think Gretchen's dad is Frank....? I don't even know, but in some parts it makes you think that. GOOOD MOVIE!
Well. I have to say Dexter sounds like Donnie Darko ;) 2001 and 2006 so yea. But Donnie Darko is my favorite movie and Dexter is my favorite TV Series ;) I am glad they have similar soundtrack :D
I am split down the middle. I think it does because Donnie saves the world, Gretchen, his mom and sister and Frank. But then it is sad that he couldn't live. But to me, thats what he wrote in the letter.
This film is WOW. I enjoy films that make you think about what's really taking place. I love Inception but Donnie Darko is the Dark Knight and Inception on Acid! I had to watch it at least a few times to get the full story. Great Movie. Very creepy movie.
Usually a movie always has a meaning in which the viewer can learn from and relate to. I've watched this movie a couple of times and I still don't get the meaning. But somehow it's always stuck in my mind... in a good way.
Yeah its such a good movie. Every time I watch it I think so much of it the upcoming weeks. As for the explanation, alot is explained in this vid: ´Donnie Darko EXPLAINED 100%´ by Xxrr23.
The first song sounds like piano playing with whales communicating. It's my favourite one. It's strange. You don't quite know what's going on or what you're listening to. It's ominous.
@moondrassil In my case it was the same thing - I watched it one day on TV and then I wanted it to watch again - so now I got the Blu-Ray Disc of it! So now i can watch it whenever I want! ;-)
I think the soundtrack to this is one of the reasons you found it so emotional, never underestimate the importance of music to shape the mental image of a movie.
@Daleksec100 No. Donnie lets himself die, and his girlfriend dies. However, Fred was saved (And so was the universe, I think.) But most of the characters are sad at the end of the movie.
not only a great movie but an amazing
and eerie soundtrack with beautiful
electronic sounds.
the atmosphere of the movie and these soundtracks... Just genius
I love this... a good mix of creepy and beautiful music.. well done :)
I cannot think of one film as creative, deep and meaningful as "Donnie Darko". So strange, complex and creative you'd swear it was written by an alien race far more advanced than us.
best movie ever, and the soundtrack is really good.
The whole music for that movie is awesome. Everything Andrews as composed and the most of the songs they've place in the mix are great

I still can't believe I found the soundtrack at the public library of my town. It felt like a miracle (:
Master piece of a movie, and the music was amazing!

Some genius must been written this movie!
The only film that comes to mind when thinking of creativity and complexity like that of "Donnie Darko" is "A Clockwork Orange", and that film was based off of a book.
It's called "waltz in the 4th dimension". The names of the songs are in the annotations.
My favorite begins at 6:20. This is the part I've been searching for. I just with the first part of it was longer.
Thank you for uploading this! :)
makes me so sad, I cant believe I hadn't seen the film in so long
manipulated living gives me the chills

Destruction is a form of creation.
I just realised that the reason I liked the music in the show Dexter so much is because it has the same sort of feel at the Donnie Darko music.
Love this movie! All time favourite and great soundtrack.
Amazing sountrack.
great compilation
I like it a lot. They are really good.
A movie that will stay my favorite forever!!!
I LOVE BEING ECCENTRIC!!
We all have a Donnie Darko in all of use
"why are you wearing that stupid human suit?"
I love how the Director's Cut, defines a lot of the detail on Time Travel, makes people understand the movie a lot more I think. But in the Original I love how perfect the sounds and music are on the scenes.

GOOOD MOVIE!
6 people belongs from an Alternative Dimension....so there is no DISLIKES in our Dimension.
Well. I have to say Dexter sounds like Donnie Darko ;) 2001 and 2006 so yea. But Donnie Darko is my favorite movie and Dexter is my favorite TV Series ;) I am glad they have similar soundtrack :D
..."she told me, "Everyone dies alone." "Does that scare you Donnie?"
I am split down the middle. I think it does because Donnie saves the world, Gretchen, his mom and sister and Frank. But then it is sad that he couldn't live. But to me, thats what he wrote in the letter.

Mad world

carpathian ridge is so peaceful
@Lauren95 Of course I think it is too, but music is noise in the long run right? It's just a strange way of looking at it..
Isn't there part of Phil Collins' "Land of Confusion" in the film somewhere?
@HxC777HxC It's the mystery, and uncertainty of things, that's what draws you to it...me too.
Yay, Waltz in the 4th dimention!
two guys have never watched Donnie Darko...
where to get THIS version of the first song? with the piano in the background etc. i´ve only found an other version T-T
this has to be one of the strangest movies ever! What would you call this movie: Science fiction, drama, fantasy?
maybe unique ..I guess because you have to watch this movie twice to understand it.
Not many movies are this special
the very beginning of the video...dexter...anyone?
his is so psycho! amazingly great! i love it :D
manipulated living is amazing and i dont know why lol.
The first part reminds me little of the Dexter soundtrack
ty
@phase866 : It's Liquid Spear Waltz.

BRILLIANT
@moondrassil In my case it was the same thing - I watched it one day on TV and then I wanted it to watch again - so now I got the Blu-Ray Disc of it! So now i can watch it whenever I want! ;-)

still awsome
@Cafeblanx: At which point in this track the song ends? (Minutes:seconds)
good question O.O i have no idea though...
SO0o Goooooooodddddd
I think the soundtrack to this is one of the reasons you found it so emotional, never underestimate the importance of music to shape the mental image of a movie.
Sparkle Motion and Mrs. Farmer disliked this.
What is the song that plays as he finds the gun?
i loved @7:03 what was that one called?
@Daleksec100 No. Donnie lets himself die, and his girlfriend dies. However, Fred was saved (And so was the universe, I think.) But most of the characters are sad at the end of the movie.
@cod5ivan its head over heels by tears for fears
