As far as I'm concerned Biehn was in Cameron's best movies, and has nothing to be disappointed about. Ironically, and somewhat unfortunately, I always felt that Biehn's (Terminator) performance (like his character) was simply out of time. Not only was he playing a soldier from the future, but he was also portraying a strong yet sensitive hero, that the majority of the audience (of that era/time) was simply not ready for. Biehn may never have wanted superstardom, but if this movie was made today would Michael be the one thrust into A-list movie-mania and not Arnold? The Reese character is far more suited to today's era of action star, than that of the musclebound, emotionless heroes of the 80s, which audiences once craved. Regardless, for me Biehn was always the star/heart of this masterpiece, his presence and performance raises T1, far above the sequels.
I've heard stories about how George P. Cosmatos didn't really direct "Tombstone" and Kurt Russell had to essentially take over directing duties. Hearing this from Beihn pretty much confirms it.
In my opinion this is how the sequels should've went make T1 and T2 then make a future film with Michael Biehn as Kyle Reese in the future war meeting John Connor and everything about him being trained to go back in time. A three film franchise is all we needed.
Great job on getting this interview! Michael Biehn is one of my favorite actors and the original movie is by far my favorite of the series. My top movies of all time are Blade Runner, Alien and The Terminator.
Michael has nothing to regret the terminator franchise because his work speaks volume for a squeal to be possible and being apart of a classic first movie where his character died a hero.
I'm pissed off that Michael Biehn wasn't in Terminator 2 too. He was simply the best part of The Terminator. The Terminator in every way felt more sincere and endearing than Terminator 2.
@@nicholasjanke3476 probably the only deleted scene from the Special Edition that should have been in the Theatrical Version, it adds a bit more to the character development of Sarah.
I agree. The Kyle Reese character is needed in the Terminator stories. The character is the perfect rival to the Terminator. That character is needed for The Terminator to bounce things off of.
The Terminator needs Kyle Reese, in the same way The Hulk needed Dr. Banner. These off the wall characters are so one dimensional that they're really unable to carry the story on their own, but need a straight man so to speak to tell the story and see through the B.S. Actually if you look back at the first Terminator at the technoir scene, Michael jumps behind Arnold and shoots him out of the window. There’s also a rare picture where he’s in a picture with Arnold, James Cameron and Franco Columbo at a ranch being trained to use guns in the movie.
Franco Columbo had a great scene as a Terminator invading the rebel's headquarters. Arnold often gave Franco small parts in his films (being they were close friends). Franco later was killed in a swimming accident in the ocean which seems kind of odd if you ask me.
16:13 wow! I read in a book there was a dream sequence with Kyle talking to Sarah while she was in hospital. I didnt realise they filmed it! 19:33 Yes! that is true. She passed away recently
it's in the special edition of the movie, you can find the scene here on youtube or just watch that version of the movie. It's really good and heart breaking.
I wonder if there is a director's cut/special edition of the first terminator movie available or maybe coming out sometime? You know, with all the cut scenes still in it? And what I also wonder for a while about is: how come at the beginning Kyle Reese is wearing a light colored coat, greyish, but after they run from the policestation it darkblue??? Anyway, like I'm commenting everywhere, Terminator is THE movie that got me hooked on Michael Biehn. He's a great actor!
Reese's first coat is a standard Army issue AG-274 Quarpel (Quartermaster Repellent cloth) raincoat in OD green. Reese lost his first coat in the police station prior to his interrogation. He picked up a black shortened version of the coat on his way out to find Sarah, no doubt modified to be shorter by the props department.
@@thejackal3245 Probably, but we don't see it happening AND his first coat was hung up on a chair by that shrink, what was his name again, Silberman, you see him do it. Wouldn't Reese take it from that chair instead of accidentally bump into another one on his way out, taking the time to 'search' for it instead of having to save Sarah and run for their life? If I wanted to put my coat on again I would take the original one from that chair.
@@astrids1203 Reese's OD green coat was off before he went into the interrogation room. The coat Silberman moves is indeed the black coat, which belongs to the other officer in the room that Reese ends up knocking out. It really doesn't matter that Reese gets the same coat or not, just as it didn't matter that he didn't pick up underwear or socks at the department store. He picked up a coat on the way out because he knew it would come in handy and needed something fast. He also wasn't shown getting his shirt, extra ammunition for his shotgun, or the hacksaw blade he used to cut the stock off. Yet, all of these things were available to him. Likewise, the terminator was not shown acquiring its extra clothes, nor the tools it uses to convert its weapons and service its injuries, nor its motorcycle. Off screen actions don't mean something doesn't happen; they're just actions taken that are not important to driving the story forward and are therefore not shown.
@@thejackal3245 Was it that dark coat indeed? I'd have to watch it again then to be sure. You are right! Just looked at that part and you see just a tiny glimpse of it, the color I mean. Okay, now I know where it came from. You didn't have to give such a big anwer about socks etc, LOL!! The one thing I do find funny, have you seen the movie Hidden in the woods from Michael Biehn? He play a drug addicted abusive father and wears a dirty pants and shirt. At one time he had killed 2 cops and fled his house. You see him wear a dark blue long coat similar to the Terminator one and a cut of shotgun. I had to laugh when I saw the similarity.
@@astrids1203 apologies if I was unclear. I wanted to give you a thorough explanation of where it came from and why you didn't see him acquire it, as well as examples of other articles acquired off screen. Yes, it's a neat little reference to his role in The Terminator.
Cameroon at one point, wanted to do Spider-Man reteaming Biehn and Schwarzenegger (Micheal Biehn would have played Spider-Man, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Doc Ock), but it never happened. The first big issue was that Biehn was too old at that point to play Spider-Man.
Okay the so your thinking of the scene where she fights herself is at the very end technically she does not fight herself though the t2 turns into her and he tells her to call for John and then he sticks a little needle in her arm and threatens to stick one in her eye but other than that there was no fight
I know he is not the only Kyle Reese, but he IS the only Kyle Reese!

He took Nike Air to whole new level, that’s when I fell in love with that sneaker
