Over the last few years i have been obsessed with these. Have grown a great appreciation for the style. I Checked out tenebrae after seeing ur review for it and fell in love with it instantly, from the opening music to the awsome camera shot that scales the outside of the house, I have since become an argento completist, n have seen plenty more giallos along the way. I have you too thank for that, keep up the great work 👍
I saw this a couple weeks ago on Shudder and was pleasantly surprised how good and riveting this was. It's a mystery that had some good twists to it. I'd highly recommend it.
So happy you've gotten into Italian horror/giallo's. Besides typical slashers it is my favorite sub genre. The Italian films have such a beautiful style that is unique to them. Especially Dario Argento, he films the most beautiful horror movies I've ever seen IMO. Sergio Martino is up there with Argento and Fulci in my eyes. The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh is an excellent movie. I'm going to beat these requests into the ground until you watch them lol, but you must watch Martino's "Torso" and "Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key". Edwige Fenech is stunning as usual in "Your Vice". "The Case of the Scorpions Tail" is excellent too Lee. All three of those are by Sergio Martino. Two other favorites of mine are "The Black Belly of the Tarantula" and "The Blood Stained Shadow". Both are wonderful Italian giallo's but the director of those two escapes me right now. Stay safe Lee and keep up the great content. ✌
I agree, Italian horror / Giallo are so awesome and have this special atmosphere don't they. I've even had to watch certain movies in their native Italian and I still enjoyed them despite not knowing the language 😁
When I was told about the giallo on the IMDb horror board back in the early 2000s they were starting to be released on Dvd and I had no idea just how many films were in that giallo boon of the 70s. There are so many and the directors often have their own stylistic personalities. It was great
Another great review! Thank you for covering all of these Giallo films. I don’t think they get enough coverage these days and you’re definitely helping to keep them alive! I’m subscribing.

You should check out Sergio Martino's "Torso", if you haven't yet... I'm positive John Carpenter must have seen that before making Halloween! Real proto-slasher...
Great video sir! All of Martino's movies from his Giallo period are awesome including The Case of the Scorpion's Tail and Your Vice is A Locked Room and Only I Have the Key. Strange Vice is my favourite though, certainly the one I have watched the most - it sure cuts deep!
I love me some Giallo films. They are very important but sadly are swept under the rug. You said it's like watching a DePalma film and that reminds me of seeing 'BLOW OUT.' It's a very spot on mystery and you can tell what it was going for, but sadly hasn't been heard of. It's got John Travolta, Nancy Allen, and John Lithgow in it. But totally, keep the reviews coming for the Giallo mystery films.
I think it’s De Palma’s best film. It’s also one of my favorite Travolta performances, and Lithgow is perfect. That ending just haunted me as a young teen, as it had so much more weight than any slasher or other thrillers I’d seen.
I watched the first half of this video 2 days ago, so last night I decided to watch the movie. First Italian horror movie I've ever seen it will not be my last. Thanks for uploading this video, Drumdums, because the movie was amazing!
Wow pulling one out the hat! Foreign horror....A few years ago I discovered Coffin Joe and a few of those movies. So twisted yet I enjoyed the hell out of them. Sure, a few drinks helped...
Great flick! My 1st from this Director. A lot of Giallo I find a bit cartoonish and maybe only a bit interesting, but this one was compelling enough to keep me engaged from beginning to end. I was worried it would be a little too sleazy at first, but the sex scenes were more intriguing than sleazy, more character based than salacious, and it turned out much differently than I had assumed it would, which I loved. Edwige Fenech 😚👌 a huge component to my adoration, but the cinematography was so cool and unique too. Even the film stock looked impressive, those colours! Also noticed Tarantino used the Score for this flick in Kill Bill, when Bud is like "That girl deserves her revenge, and we deserve to die..." Really dug this one. Thanks for the review Mr. McCoy, glad you dug it too!
Drumdums Awesome! Another great Sergio Martino Giallo is YOUR VICE IS A LOCKED ROOM, & ONLY I HAVE THE KEY! (Sick title LOL). Totally recommended if you haven’t seen it.
I'm soooo happy you got the Giallo bug! It has been 1 of my faves since I was a kid being a child of the 70's had it's perks!! Enjoy there are so many good ones to chose from too but Argento, Bava and Fulci did you know there are 2 different Bava's..yep Lomberto Bava Demons, A Blade in The Dark Macabre and Mario Bava Shock, Bay of Blood, "Blood and Black Lace" one of my faves!! AND THEY BOTH MAKE GIALLOS check them both out! And yes I like the Mr. Sergio Martino as well check out The Case of the Scorpions tail and Torso! enjoy!

We are so used to twists now. American movies were pretty straight forward at that time, but I love the Giallos with the blend of mystery and slasher. The camera loves Edwidge. She also in "You're vice is a lock door and only I have the key" another erotic giallo
Of note, these movies also influenced a certain type of horror comics. If you think about it, the strong blood tones and the chiaroscuros have a sort of comic book vibe (you see people pointing it out in regard of american horrors too, see Dawn of the Dead). The early Dylan Dog issues from the 80s had a story set up as a "slasher" and/or whodunnit which played homage to both Giallo and american horror, to continue the cross-contamination across the pond (America has a lot of it with Italy, like western; in the same way you have music and much more with the UK, and very early manga, plus later sci-fi with Japan). If you want to look for Dylan Dog, be advised that is an old series and only a few issues in the early years have this vibe. The Dylan Dog movie has NOTHING to do with the comic, is tonally and thematically out there. Arguably, the movie Cemetery Man has a better Dylan Dog vibe (Tiziano Sclavi, the author of the novel the movie is taken from, also created Dylan Dog). Cemetery Man also has another gorgeous actress, Anna Falchi, but is a 90s movie with some 80s sensibility.
Hey Drumdums, I don't know if you have ever watched "Torso" but it's a really good giallo film. I think I enjoyed this one even more than "Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh". If you haven't seen it, I reccomend it if you're looking for a good Italian horror movie.
I saw this last year on amazon prime, I'm absolutely in love with giallo movies. You should check out (if you haven't already) the bloody case of Iris. another edwige fenech movie, shes amazing in that and all colours in the dark. I find myself watching them again and again, especially the bloody case of Iris. Which they're available on amazon prime. and I've also got to give a mention to what started my love affair with Italian horror is the bird with the crystal plumage and tenabre! dario argento is amazing at his craft 👏

And a couple of Mario bava film thrown in for good measure too. Which is worth a watch i think. no problem keep doing what your doing lee. I'm loving your channel, I'm such a horror fanatic too 😁
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews Glad to be helpful, haha. Tarantino also used music from another Italian giallo in Kill Bill vol. 1 -- I'm talking about Lucio Fulci's 1977 film known in the US as The Psychic. There's a gorgeous piece by Fabio Frizzi that can be heard in Kill Bill in the scene where the Bride awakens from her coma right afer she bites off the lower lip of her would-be rapist.
Remy Myer I recently saw an interview with Tarantino and he stated that he rarely scores his own films. He enjoys using music from his favorite movies of the 60s and 70s. I love that about him.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews Right, isn't it the coolest thing? Using music from old movies. It's a very nostalgic type of fun. I wish more filmmakers would play with music the way Tarantino does. I remember watching The Hateful Eight in a theater and suddenly there comes a piece of music from Last House on the Left. Boy was I excited to recognize that one. The joy of recognizing old good stuff.
Very interesting! If you like that, then you''ll certainly enjoy Trauma from 1978. It's a Spanish Giallo that's really entrancing and that has a truly offbeat ending. Not to mention, if you listen closely, the score in a particular scene is remarkably similar to that of Maniac 1980.
You said many shots in this film reminded you a lot of Tarantino and De Palma. Damn, even watching your review alone I got reminded of them like 15 times, it's crazy. Also, the scene at 2:40: doesn't it look almost like a scene from Halloween? Look at the woman's outfit, it's almost identical to the clothes Laurie Strode wore the night HE came home.
Love me some Italian horror. I will have to check this out on Shudder. Quick question dude... When are you going to post your next fan mail/DBox video? Keep up the good work brother.

@@DrumdumsMovieReviews I was pronouching it the same way. Then not too long ago another youtuber who is more into giallo said her name so I looked up how to pronounce it on Google and he was right, lol.
Dude, this is a fine giallo, but the Martino flick you've gotta check out is 73's Torso. It's one of the great pre-Halloween slashers, with the requisite sex and violence, but with the stylized look of an Argento movie. Knowing you loved Bay of Blood, I think it would be right up your alley.
Great flick! You should definitely check out Sergio Martino's 'All The Colors Of The Dark'. Also stars Edwige Fenech, George Hilton, and Ivan Rassimov, as well as Susan Scott (Nieves Navarro).
I’m with ya bro on these Giallo movies they sucked me in also… All the colors of dark the case of the bloody iris and strip nude for your killer all feature Edwige and are top notch giallos you should check out if you haven’t already….
It's a great looking movie with nice twists and turns, the kitchen gas scene reminds me of something similar in Autopsy (1975) with Mimsy Farmer and Ray Lovelock. Two other fine ones with Hilton and Fenech, respectively, are The Case of the Scorpions Tail (1971) and Strip Nude For Your Killer (1975). Also, The Killer Must Kill Again (1975) with Hilton is good as well to seek out.
Have you ever heard of the Entity? This is possibly the only horror film that doesn't need to have someone killed or died in hideous way to make it scary *spoiler alert* as no one died in the film. This is based on a true story about the denial and reality.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews As much as I enjoy horror films, I like to see an originality that breaks its usual patterns like the Entity where no one died or killed to make it scary or the Black Sheeps where the director used his homeland iconic animals into a new breed of werespecies
Love Italian who dunnit movies or gialos, but I sometimes finds the dubbing to be annoying and bad. The women in this movie is so sexy and that is a very very good thing.
Ehh..I thought it was fine. And to me, it kinda felt like they couldn't decide who the killer should be, so they just decided that literally all the men in her lounge wanted tho kill her for the money lol
BelzoraHollow3 Yeah it they could have ironed out the lackluster twist, this could have been phenomenal. Typical giallo twist though. I think that’s why they’re never memorable. Aside from that I loved the movie 🍿
'Honor among thieves'. Italians were copying fantastic american suspense/horror flicks from the 40s/50s - even classic westerns with the advent of Spaghetti Western in the early 60s. A whole generation of directors/writers growing up in post WW2 Italy became fascinated with american movies that were forbidden during the Mussolini years - Sergio Leone, Bernardo Bertolucci, etc. A second generation created the Giallo movement and later spin offs of 1970s classics: The Exorcist, Jaws and Dawn of the Dead - hence Argento, Lucio Fulci and Lamberto Bava. However it goes deeper: watch or rewatch Dressed to kill (1980). When folks talk about De Palma Dressed to Kill they always invoke Hitchcock but never the Giallo influence.... that movie is 80% Giallo and only 20% Hitchcock. Honor among thieves.
Stopped a third of the way thru and watched the movie. Great triple cross ending! Never trusted.......that guy (no spoiler). Question to everyone: If Jean had black hair wouldn’t he be a dead ringer for Richard Ramirez???

Dude, this is a fine giallo, but the Martino flick you've gotta check out is 73's Torso. It's one of the great pre-Halloween slashers, with the requisite sex and violence, but with the stylized look of an Argento movie. Knowing you loved Bay of Blood, I think it would be right up your alley.
Yes! Looking forward to seeing Torso.
Did you ever get a chance to see the I was telling u about a few months back called "He knows your alone"? Sort of like a unmasked Michael Myers.
Great flick! You should definitely check out Sergio Martino's 'All The Colors Of The Dark'. Also stars Edwige Fenech, George Hilton, and Ivan Rassimov, as well as Susan Scott (Nieves Navarro).
I bought the Blu-ray of that one along with this. Can’t wait.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews awesome, it's a fun ride!
I’m with ya bro on these Giallo movies they sucked me in also… All the colors of dark the case of the bloody iris and strip nude for your killer all feature Edwige and are top notch giallos you should check out if you haven’t already….
Lee, if you love this movie, then you'll definitely love "Don't Look Now" (1974).
That one is definitely on my list!
I need to check this one out I really like Italian horror movies
It’s a good one!
She’s pretty lol 😂 but thanks for letting us know about this movie it looks really cool, I’m definitely gonna watch it when I have free time.
Sounds like a good movie. Also awesome shirt!
Thank you!
I want to get Fenech's entire catalogue. I have this and All the Colors of the Dark. Looking forward to reviewing that one.
1971 is a great year..because i was born :D and its ok Lee..Nudity in movies is all good.and needed.its a must lol haha...
U rock. Keep on making glowstic reviews u r doing glowstic u rock

Hey Lee , have you ever heard about the game until dawn? You would love it , it is like a movie. Also I need to check this movie, looks interesting
No I haven’t Tomas. I’ll check it out.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews you will have a blast, I will send you a trailer by Messenger
Sold me on it. Off to shudder i go. Thanks.
Welcome!
The 70s is when the Brady’s started going to key parties. 🤪
Seems like I might want to check this out
Have you ever heard of the Entity? This is possibly the only horror film that doesn't need to have someone killed or died in hideous way to make it scary *spoiler alert* as no one died in the film. This is based on a true story about the denial and reality.
No but I constantly hear great things about that one.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews As much as I enjoy horror films, I like to see an originality that breaks its usual patterns like the Entity where no one died or killed to make it scary or the Black Sheeps where the director used his homeland iconic animals into a new breed of werespecies
My God, Edwige Fenech is gorgeous! 😍😳
Have you seen All the Colors of the Dark?
Next on my list. Just picked up the Blu-ray!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews The best way to describe that movie is it's like Rosemary's Baby if Argento directed it. 😈🌈
queen_ofthe_bmovies That’s what I’ve heard. Can’t wait!
can you review basic instinct and red eye from 2005 both great thrillers.
Debra Austin Yes. Those will be fun.
Lee video idea poltergeist (1982) vs. the thing (1982)
I enjoy the movie
Love Italian who dunnit movies or gialos, but I sometimes finds the dubbing to be annoying and bad. The women in this movie is so sexy and that is a very very good thing.
Sounds more like a Lovecraftian title.
Oh it's a giallo title all the way.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews Yet I raise you, "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward(h)"
it sounds like a bizarre movie really weird
Did you see The babysitter killer queen yet
Yes. Review coming!
Drumdums yayyyy
Oh definitely. It’s a give/take community for sure. This had heavy Hitchcock“Strangers on a Train” vibes.
She is so beautiful she's in the case of the bloody Iris which I found the much better than this one check that one out it just got a 4K release
A goddess.
🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨
Never heard of this film
You might have heard of it as "Blade of the Ripper" or "The Next Victim", just two of the many titles it has been released under over the years.
Edwige Fenech is all kinds of hot..google is your friend and i'll leave it at that lol..
Stopped a third of the way thru and watched the movie. Great triple cross ending! Never trusted.......that guy (no spoiler).
Question to everyone: If Jean had black hair wouldn’t he be a dead ringer for Richard Ramirez???
OMG yes!
Drumdums: Whew! So it wasn’t just me! 😅
First one😏😏😏😏😏
Based on the box art.....porn? Lol
Not quite.
