    Bring on those Italian reviews Lee! Love me some Opera. I absolutely recommend Inferno, the Suspiria sequel. It might just be Argento's most underrated work and possibly his most visually stunning 🤟

    Honestly man, I had a real kick with trying out making reviews on the side of my video editing work. I was having fun with it for a short while, but I don't think I was able to keep myself consistently putting out content without feeling burnt and rushed. Good job at keeping up the good work man!

    Btw, thank you very much. You have reignited my need to watch Giallo. I’ve been watching them more and more. Your reviews have been awesome and got me pumped for quite a few. Seen Tenebrae, Your Vice is a locked Room and only I have the key, The Bird w/ the Crystal Plumage, StageFright, and Phenomenon.

    I saw Terror At The Opera in theaters 5 times. I love the movie. When it came out on Venezuelan VHS I quickly imported it. But the original theatrical cut is shorter than the Southtate Video cut that first came out in US. I got that one and years later I got the Anchor Bay VHS. Of course I bought the DVD and Blu-Ray of it. So I have it multiple times. For me Argento began going downhill with Trauma. The best one after that has to be Sleepless. Great review of a great giallo and cool video Lee!👍

    I agree it’s his last masterpiece, but Sleepless from 2001 is also pretty good. I’d say that one was his last great one, even if it’s not perfect (particularly in the last act). Definitely recommend this one too. My personal favorite is Suspiria.

      Sleepless really is his really last incredible movie, and not meaning a masterpiece, just Argento showing his guns like the Argento fans want.

    This was my first Argento! I saw it at an advance screening at a horror film festival, and honestly didn't know quite what to make of it back then. Since that time I've grown to appreciate the wackiness of Italian horror - in fact I'm very much looking forward to your Italian horror ranking/best of video, can't wait!

    Opera is my favourite Argento movie (Argento being my favourite director). It has everything you could want from an Argento giallo. You’re right that most people say this was his last truly great film, but 2001’s Sleepless was a fantastic return to form for him, and I would argue that is his last truly great film. Glad you enjoyed it! Italian horror is like no other… I LOVE it!

    This has always been one of my favorite Italian horror films! Its so beautifully shot. Argento’s 70’s and 80’s films played with colors so masterfully. Movies just don’t look as good to me anymore. Even Argento’s later works looked cheap and uninspired. Although, Mother Of Tears does have some insanely violent kills that make it worth watching…it still blends in with all the other films of the time it came out. It’s sad that most films aren’t as visually striking as they were back then. At least imho. Definitely looking forward to your Italian horror ranking! 😃

    "The two didn't see eye to eye on a number of things". Nice pun there! In terms of Argento, I love loads of his films but this was the first I thought was merely average. There are a quite a few fascinating ones he did after this though that are worth seeing - Phantom of the Opera, Sleepless, and Mother of Tears.

    A lot of Italian productions wouldn't shoot sound, or at least boom Mike quality, as the cast would generally speak in their own language to give the best performance and, the whole thing would be dubbed in each local version. So a subtitled "original" couldn't be included, because it never really existed.
    The more you know, as they say. Or at least said.

  • @SneitnaM
    @SneitnaM 2 роки тому

    Wow! I'm really glad you appreciate Italian horror cinema. In my opinion, to appreciate it you have to be a true horror fan. Italian movies are obviously not without flaws but they are certainly fundamental to the genre. And it’s right that they are different from the American style otherwise it would not make sense because it would not add anything to the genre. Another director I love is Lucio Fulci. His movies aren't stingy with flaws (like the overly hasty ending in City of the Living Dead) but I love them. He also made an excellent slasher in '82, a film that comes close to the American style but luckily Lucio managed not to lose his personality and to keep his style. The film I'm talking about is The New York Ripper. Watch it if you haven't already.
