It should be relatively easy with a static object, just cut out a section of the drink which can play in reverse, and have a feathered selection on top so the border isn't noticeable.

I am wondering if maybe the Overland game is such a large drain on the battery, that is maybe why it is so close. I.e. If the iPad were doing something less demanding of a power drain in apps (i.e. composing emails, light we browsing, typing in pages) then the keyboard would have a higher percentage of the overall draw on power, and therefore you might see a larger discrepancy in that scenario.
I did fail to mention that I used Overland because it's very inefficient (really great for discharging the battery quickly). The iPad get's really hot running the game. Good point on the lower usage scenario.
yeah I agree, I think the test result was flawed by Overland. Running the keyboard with for instance just a word document open would have given much more realistic results

Love Arthur and the creativity to find a solution! Keep up the great content! I don’t find the magic keyboard drains my iPad that much more than normal use. My non-Arthur data suggests around 10%... LOL 🤓
I think I may have found my calling building robots to test marketing fluff. Arthur spawned a machine called Arthuros that's currently mauling a cable.
For those out there trying to save money, the previous generation keyboard is great, and also let's you flip. The iPad around without having to take the keyboard off. Also works well with a case. But the magic has the mousepad and diff keys so it's also great if you can afford it!
Awesome video. Very interesting results on the charging. I’ve suspected that it charges slower through the keyboard, but I’ve used that to my advantage. During WFH I have my iPad next to me, on it’s Magic Keyboard and charge through the keyboard. I don’t have to fuss with it as much because the charge rate is so much slower, and that saves some recharge cycles. :)
Just saw this video. Probably the first one that has really boosted my existing knowledge, and efforts to break down battery usage using this keyboard. I have tried many variables trying to diminish battery drain on my iPad pro 2018, and most of my usage involved no games, mainly apps. Everyday I use my combo iPad pro and Mkeyboard I seem to get different depletions of battery power, and I never know whether the next time I am going to open it up, whether the battery has totally drained. I just have to monitor it all the time, within the space of 4 or 5 hours, and if I notice that it is draining faster than normal then I plug in. I couldn't even think of leaving the combo not plugged in over night. Seems like that is a recipe for waking up with dead battery. And no, Coconut battery results are not indicating my battery is near end cycle. I have 153 cycles used. I also keep keyboard battery to zero when not needed. I think I have also read that in some cases that the closing of the keyboard still is keeping the usage of the keyboard active, something about autobrightness being something to monitor. But, really, thanks Monty,, I really, really appreciate the work you have done to this. I have been scratching my head for over 2 years now, trying to figure this out, and you have done a masterful job. I had previous third party bluetooth keyboards, that had virtually no impact on overall battery usage, but of course when the trackpad came along with this new keyboard, convinced me that was the way to go. It might be an easy thing to just take off your iPad from the keyboard, when not in use, however, once attached, who wants to keep track or reattach all day long. I haven't seen any recent updates to this video yet,

Is it a bad idea to charge your ipad through your MacBook? Will it increase the number of charge cycles on the MacBooks battery life?
Yesssss it does. I love my magic keyboard. But Ive never had to charge my iPad this much. I had the 10.5 pro and the battery lasted longer. I just take it off and put it on my magnetic case. And it’s fine.

The biggest problem I’ve noticed when it comes to power is how much power it takes to charge. I’ve previously (when using other bluetooth keyboards such as the bridge keyboard) been able to charge the iPad using my phone charger. However, now that I’m using the magic keybaord, it seems that the battery drain is significant enough that it still loses power even while connected to a phone charger, hence why I’ve been bringing along my iPad charger (the one that came in the box).

Great video, looks like Author got a work out. I think the battery keyboard rumors were mostly around some manufacturing issue ones in the beginning. I had one of those, let me tell you it was draining about 20% to 30% of the ipad battery. Apple replaced it and its much better, maybe 5% without the backlit keyboard, and 10% with the keyboard lit up. Few things I wish for: A control center that can change keyboard light brightness. And that if I touch the ipad screen the keyboard lights stay off. They shouldn’t come on until I touch a key or the trackpad in my mind and that would save more battery. Just needs a little refinement but still the absolute best keyboard I have used on an ipad or compared to any wireless keyboard in the past.

And I actually see the slower charging via the keyboard as kind of a feature, because it's better for your battery health if you don't need the charge quickly, and the keyboard's port is generally intended for when you're parked at a desk.
Ahmm, i didnt notice that much, but i am setting my back light into 20%. When the light is off, it saves the battery when im watching movies.when im typing, its alright. Maybe i advice to set it in lower dim light in settings, keyboard hardware.

My iPad Pro 5 with magic keyboard seems to drain faster than I would like...I wonder if the magic keyboard (back lit keyboard turned off) + using the apple pencil is the culprit? I doubt it ... any thoughts? Great video by the way!
Think the issue is the connecting pins on the keyboard. I have several times had my ipad charging through the keyboard and found it discharging while the charge indicator was green. The back left side of ipad was warm and the charger was very warm almost like there was a short circuit issue. I cleaned off the connections between the ipad and the key board and it seemed to do ok for awhile. Think the ipad takes a lot more power to operate than the keyboard. But when you are charging from the keyboard to the ipad it looks like the key board cannot pass the full current to the ipad. Charging directly to the ipad and then powering the keyboard works better because the ipad is getting the full charge current and the keyboard takes very little. Think there is an issue with the connectors on the keyboard. Also beware of your ipad overheating on bottom left quarter if you are charging the ipad from the keyboard.

Nice Video! You can actually get a sense if 10 min are statistically significant if you calculate the standard deviation of all your measurements. Also I don't know if those measurement apps are even accurate comparing measurements with each other. A counter on the brick would be more accurate. That way you can get even further into nerd mode. :)
I thought about that but the values always bounced between two values, a high value and a low value. I think the standard deviation would have been useful if there was variation between the data but there wasn't. The meter would have been better but I haven't found anything reasonable that allowed me to log the data. I tried pulling the data out of a timelapse video but that was way too much effort.
I think I’d rather know how quickly the battery discharges during normal everyday use. Emails, surfing, UA-cam video’s etc. I know my 1st gen 12.9” iPad Pro using the Smart Keyboard drained the battery in about 2 hours of use, which makes it almost impossible to travel with in my opinion. I assume the new Magic Keyboard probably drains the 2020 iPad Pro in about the same time. The point of an ipad is portability, but if you have to constantly charge it to handle the Magic. Keyboard, its not really worth it, unless you never plan to take you ipad outside your home.
My iPad pro 12.9 with out Magic Keyboard 3:55 from 100% to 8% Got a new one as it was 4 days old and the new one with Magic Keyboard and light on got 3:45:26.82 and they say 10 hours lol ya right and changing up to 52% 1:18:36.54

I'm on Zoom almost all day for my job, if I keep the keyboard plugged in with the 12.9 attached...streaming video...is there a significant drain on the Pad? Vincent Dong would u say the case itself provides enough protection for the iPad? And does it have any problems with screen protectors? Still debating on screen protector too but I don’t want any screen degradation or glare. I want to keep the display as pure as possible.
For the charging test, Arthur should’ve swipe on the screen throughout the charge because the experiment with the keyboard on all the time left the screen active throughout right?
You would've seen a gigantic difference if your didn't play that game and just scrolled up and down on the homescreen. Most of the battery was taken down by the processor!
Hello! Question about the Magic Keyboard, Did you ever experience any questionable wear and tear (peeling/ bubbling) on your keyboard during normal use? Seems to be a problem reported by some users.

This video was shot with iPadOS 13.6. The game I used to burn the battery, Overland, is a massive power hog. I failed to mention in the video why I choose it...the iPad works so hard to run the game that the middle is almost too hot to touch.
ipados => keyboard not drain much ipados => mouse ( when accesibility turned on ) drained like we draw battery directly from ipad. tested on wireless or bluetooth

Vincent Dong would u say the case itself provides enough protection for the iPad? And does it have any problems with screen protectors? Still debating on screen protector too but I don’t want any screen degradation or glare. I want to keep the display as pure as possible.
Not yet. They don't have it for the 12.9 inch...I will wait a bit more before getting it for the 11.
For the charging test, Arthur should’ve swipe on the screen throughout the charge because the experiment with the keyboard on all the time left the screen active throughout right?

Which iPad Pro were you using there? 2018 or 2020? I read somewhere the 2018 iPad Pro discharges faster with the magic keyboard than the 2020.

Connector does not have as much power as the port on the iPad.
Hello! Question about the Magic Keyboard, Did you ever experience any questionable wear and tear (peeling/ bubbling) on your keyboard during normal use? Seems to be a problem reported by some users.
1. will the ipad discharge faster than normal rate if it is closed with magic keyboard attached??
2. will the ipad discharge faster when it is attached to the magic keyboard and u r not doing any work or if the ipad is locked ??

I haven’t been impressed with the iPad Pro’s battery without the keyboard. With it, it’s disconcerting how fast it kills it. But maybe it’s iPadOS 14.
This video was shot with iPadOS 13.6. The game I used to burn the battery, Overland, is a massive power hog. I failed to mention in the video why I choose it...the iPad works so hard to run the game that the middle is almost too hot to touch.

ipados => keyboard not drain much
ipados => mouse ( when accesibility turned on ) drained like we draw battery directly from ipad. tested on wireless or bluetooth
put mouse ability on ipados without accessibility assistive touch must be fixed these issue
