    Yes, most landing at LBA with Ryanair use Flap 40.

      Was simply filmed on an iPhone 4s. It was a last minute thing.

      Andrew Chitty sorry that I'm late but is it still possible to get a jumpseat ride over at ryanair? Or at least for take off and landing? I know its easy to enter the cockpit after shutdown and de-boarding but are these little things still possible?

      @HotDog12ist 9 років тому

      Jakester! - The Darude Comment Critic No, not possible, only for those who hold a valid company ID, Ryanair has a very strict procedure regarding this, I'd say its impossible with FR unless you work for them.

      No, I was a friend of the flight crew as I worked at LBA at the time and was returning home after visiting family. I was extremely lucky to be given this chance.

      Steve Tilsley nope, that is normal speed. Landing speed on the 737-800 should be between 135-150 knots depending on weight, weather and flap setting

    Fla[s 40 and autobrakes 3? :O

    • @srmoitas
      @srmoitas 10 років тому

      its pretty normal

    • @Timpaaa2
      @Timpaaa2 10 років тому

      Ryanair tends to land with flaps 30 and autobrakes three, so that they can use idle reverse (reversing costs fuel, brake maintenance costs relatively less). Of course the pilot makes the decision wich setting he wants to use. That's all based on aircraft weight, a contaminated or dry runway, runway length etc. Why they used this configuration in this video? Maybe because the aircraft was quiet heavy and the pilot wanted to vacate as soon as possible.

    • @chitty210589
      @chitty210589  9 років тому

      Timpaaa2 The runway at LBA is only 2250M and the LDA is only 1916M. So it is quite a short runway. Also, the main exit on landing is Taxiway A which is only 3/4 way down the runway.

    • @TheLuckyluke211
      @TheLuckyluke211 9 років тому

      Timpaaa2 Actually RYR is not especially opting for idle reverse as the Brake Cooling Schedule might screw up your 25min turnaround. ;) Read FCOM first.

    • @Timpaaa2
      @Timpaaa2 9 років тому

      TheLuckyluke211 Well I don't have my hands on the FCOM, I just told you what I heard from a real Ryanair pilot. On top of that, most of the video's I have seen from a Ryanair cockpit show them using autobrake 3. I don't know what has priority though, saving fuel by using idle reverse or saving time by full reverse. Thanks for your comment by the way.

    Hard landing

      Cptn.nbilashrff InfiniteFlight no, it was a firm landing, which is SAFER than trying to do a soft landing, because if you try to do a soft landing, there is a risk of floating and running out if runway. Boeing recommends firm landings, so when your on a flight and it is a soft landing, it is not as safe as a firm landing. Please understand this

      Looked like a very smooth landing to me

  • @TheRealJordan

    this is ryanair....ahh that explains the landing

    • @chrmantilla
      @chrmantilla 7 років тому +8

      Actually their landings are solid. They dont look for a smooth touch down doing a long flare. Why, first you make sure you dont overshot the touch down zone, so you avoid going around. Second, they make contact with the runway as soon as they can so they will use idle reverse instead of needing full thrust. That's how they save fuel and keep their low price tickets. So, their "hard landings" are not because of "bad" pilots, its airline's policy to keep going low cost.

    • @Samjones11203
      @Samjones11203 6 років тому

      chrmantilla well explained. The main reason for firmer landings is because Ryanair use a lot of ‘out of city airports’ which normally have short runways. This means we are trained to touch down firmer if possible as it is safer than soft, because there is less risk of running out of runway!

      chrmantilla Ryanair normally use 2nd detect reverse thrust (about 75%) which is a lot more than idle. It does not typically save money, but it takes the force off the wheel brakes, so that means there is less time needed to wait for the brakes to cool before taking off again. Less brake pressure = faster turnaround times, that’s how the money is saved here. Reverse thrust does not impact slowing down the aircraft on dry runways, only in wet runways does it effect the rate of deceleration, but on dry runways, it reduces the pressure needed by the brakes to slow the aircraft down

      Callum Conroy this is good. Only the essential points are made, which is very safe. I think you need to understand what CRM and operation is better for before you say this
