Coming out of the 80's, this album went off like a nuclear bomb.
Anyone who "loathes" this song were still stuck in their 80s Glamour Rock phase and couldn't handle a genuine Musical Revolution. Admittedly, I'm a music snob and Nirvana was a favorite growing up. While I don't listen to them as much as I did as a kid, I find it remarkable that its quality hasn't aged, and that it remains arguably the Top 5 most Iconic Rock Songs of all time.
It's hard to believe this song is over thirty years old. If it sounds repetitive to some people, that might be because they played it on loop for weeks on end at some point or another. The song was super popular back when. This was the song that ushered in what was called grunge rock, a genre that had been brewing for a few years already but that had not yet broken through. I think the vibe is less anti-establishment, although its that, than straight up nihilistic. Disestablishmentarianism is about the separation of church and state, so, not quite that. "Come As You Are" was their follow up single. "Breed" and "Lithium" are a couple of interesting deep cuts from the album. "All Apologies" and "About A Girl" are a couple of their other popular songs.
I like listening to your critique of songs. I'm a bit older than you, I know this song very well.
I never thought of this as over produced. Good reaction!
Glad you back with the reactions bro
great, like you mannnn
It’s simple there is before smells like teen spirit and after that’s the cutoff
Line!!
Good analysis, great reaction. I never saw them or bought their stuff but I hung out in enough bars to hear this a kajillion times. And when the Weird Al version came out I enjoyed a whole new wave of appreciation for it.
Love Nirvana! Also check out THE HIVES, Hate to say I told you so & Bogus Operandi.
Glad to see ya J!
Awesome!!!! 🎉😂😂😂🎉😂😂🎉😂😂🎉🎉😂🎉😂
Dude .. I cannot believe you never listen to this! And I knew you were going to go off right at that chorus.
My guy, have really enjoyed your reactions to AIC and FNM (and other Mike Patton projects) 2 of my top 5 favorite bands of all time.
Nirvana is no.1. Catalogue is deep and especially impressive considering how short their run was.
Not one of my top songs by them and Kurt got sick of playing it pretty quickly...this is all to say, you should hear more from em
good video bro
Great song. This really IS grunge rock to most of us. If there isn't a picture of the single next to Grunge in the dictionary there should be.
Edit...by "us" i mean people my age. I had just mived to Seattle for school when it came out. I heard it so much i hated ut for years. I laugh at myself for that now. How could ine not love that song?
❤
Weird Al’s version is off the charts lol
Hey Jay, been a minute. How ya' doin'? Hope you're well.
Stay strong. Oh...and...thanks for the reaction. Always a pleasure.
Doing well, my man, hope the same for your
Chorus effect. Electro harmonix small clone
The song on the album is much longer, especially the guitar solo.
