For future reference: if you’re ok with a degree of save-scumming you can save scum an aurora. The game saves when you sleep or pass time more than an hour, but when harvesting tools or clothes it doesn’t save. So if you get stuck down there, or want an aurora to use a mill or something, sleep or pass time to just before night so it saves, then harvest whatever takes the longest time. Be it your bedroll, a cooking pot, a bearskin coat, just harvest until it’s almost done and then cancel, and keep doing this until you get an aurora. If you get to dawn without an aurora, just exit and load your save and it will be just before night. If you do this, make sure you’re not standing on wires because it will kill you if an aurora does happen.
I thought of this method like a week ago and use it whenever I go to mills so I don’t have to spend an in-game week there or eat tens of kilos of food. All I need is one night, a bit of patience and a little luck.
@@SomeOne-vf1rs They could make a task/achievement to fix it/move the carriage out of the way. Maybe have it as the only (I think) indoor rope climb when the aurora is not active.

After looting for a while the water stopped sparking and any form of light was lost. The power had gone out. I pulled out 1 of the 3 lamps I found there and began using what fuel I had to find my way through the last couple hallways. As I progressed I eventually found more supplies but this only hindered my movement speed. Eventually I made the choice to go towards the entrance. I assumed there must be a way back up, surely I wouldn't be trapped in the mine right? I made my way to the elevator to see it would not operate. I checked my vitals and inventory, my food supplies were limited to 1 piece of venison and some various canned goods. At this point I felt the hopelessness kick in, I thought after my nearly 100 days I had sealed my own fate by going down the elevator shaft... I decided to pass the time with some reading, so I started a fire in the barrel next to the elevator in hopes that the next night would bring another aurora as I didn't have enough food to survive down there for very long. I laid down my sleeping bag and went to bed, almost willing to give up hope that I would leave the mine. I awoke to the sound of lights flickering and power surging through the mine and myself, I ran to the elevator and made my way back to the surface. This game is incredible for creating these moments of tension and suspense in a quiet way. Way more memorable than 90% games simply due to how one mistake can end your playthrough.

Your skill at navigating the wires is much better than mine. I was getting a new run established in Mystery Lake. I looted in a circle, starting with the cabins around the lake and fishing huts, camp office, traders homestead, and finally made it to the dam. My sleep cycles were off so I was looting the dam in the early evening. I got the aurora, and off into the long dark I went.
I know someone who said: "F*** it, my save will be gone soon, so let's try crazy things !" The way you did incorporate the pilgrim footage was pretty nice and a good idea.

I died here not once but twice on runs with over 200 days. Died the first time when I first stepped in (because I thought that water would only give me burns not death if I took too long) and then the second time I auto walked off the planks. I call it the No Mercy Mine and never returned on any save. Glad I got to see it through you!

I think it should be noted that things decay very quickly on loper. So things might have all been decayed by the time you get there. This place probably should be explored early on.
It's impossible to loot every location like this on loper, when I got to the Summit on day 91 most of the stuff I'd have found was already useless due to decay.
@@haserpl2367 you can very well loot major loot locations under 25 days, it takes me about 5 days to loot the summit and the goldmine from a dp spawn and a bit of coastal looting
I don't have much experience with interloper but aren't items repairable as well as food being edible regardless of condition at cooking lv5, making everything usable?
Created a backup save because I wanted to be 100% sure that those watered out tunnels had multi-access, but yeah, he basically looted every area. Boy did I luck out here. Only my 2nd time to Coastal Highway and I just stumbled across this mine. I was actually herded here by a bear who was blocking the road: otherwise I would have just gone straight. I saw the elevator, and I knew enough about electricity in this game from Blackrock to know that an aurora would open it. My energy was low so I took a nap in the nearby trailer, only to wake up to an aurora. Loot was: jerry can, gunpowder, work gloves, and a case of revolver ammo. Honestly not that disappointed. A decent top up, and those work gloves make me happy. Only on day 25.
THANK YOU Zak! I was thinking about asking you to do this but thought it would be a bit bold of me. I was preparing to try to do it my self but doubted it was worth it. Now I know. I don't see any benefit for the risk taken. This was hyped up when done and I really feel they dropped the ball on this one. There should have absolutely been some top tier loot down there. This cave is the embodiment of my fears. Getting trapped underground, without light, food or water. Only to hear your own breath and occasional water drops surrounded by complete darkness and wet cold. Amazing location.

The experience was very tense and intense as I did not know when the aurora would end. I went here around day 200 on my interloper run. I did find ear wraps but they were already ruined. Fortunately I had the ones from the summit already.

11:05 Sounds like Will says "Dammit, my ankles." Never heard this voice line before, any idea what it indicates? One idea I had to explore this "safely" would be to bring a massive amount of birch bark tea, wait for the aurora to end and then explore without fear of electrocution. Even if it's a long time to the next aurora, after you get cabin fever the BBT will keep you alive despite not being able to sleep for healing. Not really worth it without more/better loot down here though.
I also agree it was due to the water, which luckily looked to be unelectrified here. You can see Zak's temperature gauge drop slightly at the same time the voice line is heard; Since he was completely warm before and after, the drop had to have been due to water.
Oh my God....I got in a hurry (which is the same reason I've been walking around for the last 155 days with 55% condition because I slept 12 at the outdoor forge in FM & got frostbite 1/2 AND 2/2, aka permanent 45% condition loss!! F*CK!!), & entered the cave late I to the aurora, with little food & even less water, no pot or pan or can to make more water, only found a single can of pop, a bottle of maple syrup that would kill me to have to drink for what little moisture it has😢, oh, & I was almost all the way tired when I came in, so I slept 7hrs...woke up panicking, figured there MUST be another way out, came here to find out, then my heart sunk...I've been on this run every single day for over a month, LONG days, I was 'bout to be SICK...I had a TINY sip of water, finally found the elevator, put my blankie down to sleep...& I heard the buzz...the aurora came back the very next night...HOW. FKNG. *LUCKY* WAS THAT??? I've been a full WEEK without seeing an aurora!! Anyway, holy SH*T I'll never leave home without at least a can on me ever again, which I usually don't anyway, & actually just started trying it out for the last few days in Coastal Highway, since I'm getting later game & my clothes & gear are way too heavy even with the moose satchel & well-fed, & I'm a natural pack-rat & have to keep basically everything I find, for example I walking .01mph outta the aurora mine because I took all the coal & crate wood ... LoL, I DON'T EVEN NEED IT!! WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME...
I think it would be cool if this was the only place you could get a rifle/revolver with ammo on interloper, it would create a real an opportune reason to go into the lower area of the mine
First time I went through this thing, I had no idea how tight of a time limit I had. I just about looted everything went up the elevator and as soon as I exited the cave, Aurora was over. I didn’t realize how close I cut it and thought the Aurora would have lasted all night but was clearly wrong.
I was hoping to just run in and grab stuff before making my escape. I didn’t realize the interior would be so big and as soon as I made it down one corridor, the Aurora ended suddenly. I was trapped and thought for sure it’d be the end of me. Thankfully an Aurora came the very next night and saved my ass. Probably going to be less risky in the future and forgo that mine entirely. My problem was that I couldn’t find a gun anywhere else.

I’m doing my first loper run after playing stalker for about 800 in game days. That stalker run is still going but I wanted to try interloper. Really if you’re good at resource management, interloper isn’t that bad. After you get the bow and you find a mag lens and forge some tools, the world becomes much less daunting and you can survive indefinitely. It becomes even easier if you take advantage of mills and use snares, you have a constant supply of food and a way to easily level your mending skill. I like to make a few pairs of improvised knives and hatchets, and use a couple pairs to near-breaking, then do one trip to bleak inlet to repair them cheap and quickly. The timberwolves are punishing but if it’s a clear day you can usually crouch and sneak past and not need to worry.
Interloper has taught me how little I actually need to survive each day. My inventory consistently has so much more space than my stalker run even with heavier clothes and tools. You don’t get a lot, but if you’re comfortable with the game you don’t need a lot at all.
I remember being trapped here once, I nearly starved 2 death, never going in there again. I think if hinterland did put something worthwhile in here no one would notice because no one (except zak) is insane enough to go in lol
First time i've explored it (it was before TFTFT, around when Fearless Navigator came out), it was interloper and I found a can of arachis paste, rifle ammo and fisherman's sweater (i hope i wrote names of those items rightly).
I´m playing a run with custom setting, gunlooper, all setting like intrusión plus weapons. I found a balaclava and a fisherman's sweater in the mine !!
I got shocked twice & still survived, even tho im at only 55% condition permanent from frostbite. Maybe cause i have high protection & only on Voyager?
First run on it, starting there as a new player, 15th day or so, coming there and Aurora hits, but was scared to stay long time there hahah as I didn't explore more of the map, and didn't know is there an exit so I just went back, looted minimum stuff around 😂 not watching video, just intro, don't want to spoil it for myself 😂
Was plotting on emptying a jerry can to see how long it would take to fill from fishing, i guess i never emptied one before because i use torches more than any other light source
Just got in there on my 150 days loper run. Got electrocuted 2 times, reduced my hp to 10%. Instantly panicked and ran away as fast as possible. Didn't even loot the damn thing. Now I see it wouldn't even be worth it, except for the jerry can maybe.
im on my first interloper run since the update and I can't find any flare cartridges. found two pistols and 1 cartridge. checked all the usual locations... nothing... what has been your experience?
whoa! I had no idea they integrated that mine into survival mode. I thought similarly to the heating system puzzle in Blackrock it was only available in story mode. I guess it is similar to the way the "cave of the king bear" was integrated into Hushed River Valley.

I remember this area had some serious monkey bar climbing to do to get to the fuse boxes in the story mode. I would imagine the best loot would be in those same spots. No?
I love your videos are you gonna use the time capsule and keep playing this over 1k day save? Thats a pretty awesome achievement especially when you are exploring every nook and cranny.
Quite risky to ruin your thousand jorurney run. I was luckily enter un interlooper 79th day running away from power wolf in 2AM find just nice clothes, lot of coal, pair of flares, and a pair of electrical burns. There Is fireplace so i make water there. I was reckless and lucky
Fun fact: when you leave the mine you'll realize it's the area of the shipwreck at the end of chapter 3 Edit after one year: i had no idea that i had a comment here
Sorry for the late reply, but yes with Cooking level 5 you ONLY get parasites or food poisoning from RAW meat so a 500 day old slice of COOKED meat is safe to eat.
This came just doesn’t have enough unique things to do. It’s fun to start a new game, but I always end up wanting to off myself around day five. That being said, this is probably as cool as it gets for the game and it’s still a really boring secret especially to watch.
They should have an inner chamber you can only reach once the aurora ends, meaning you have to get in and get out before the next aurora, which would also allow you to leave. Ooooh and then a third inner sanctum you can only get in, when another aurora starts!

Well, don't explore while the aurora is still going, then you can explore safely. Of course, I have my aurora frequency set to high.

The game only saves when you enter and if you get hurt I believe.
In theory if the aurora ends early you can just quit, reload and do it faster

For exploration purposes one can set up a custom game and set araura frequency to very high. Have one almost every night.

LoL, I DON'T EVEN NEED IT!! WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME...

I think it would be cool if this was the only place you could get a rifle/revolver with ammo on interloper, it would create a real an opportune reason to go into the lower area of the mine
First time I went through this thing, I had no idea how tight of a time limit I had. I just about looted everything went up the elevator and as soon as I exited the cave, Aurora was over. I didn’t realize how close I cut it and thought the Aurora would have lasted all night but was clearly wrong.

I was hoping to just run in and grab stuff before making my escape. I didn’t realize the interior would be so big and as soon as I made it down one corridor, the Aurora ended suddenly. I was trapped and thought for sure it’d be the end of me. Thankfully an Aurora came the very next night and saved my ass. Probably going to be less risky in the future and forgo that mine entirely. My problem was that I couldn’t find a gun anywhere else.

I got stuck the first time I tried my luck. Thankfully there was an Aurora the following night so I only took a bit of condition hit. It was intimidating on a 500 day run.

I’m doing my first loper run after playing stalker for about 800 in game days. That stalker run is still going but I wanted to try interloper. Really if you’re good at resource management, interloper isn’t that bad. After you get the bow and you find a mag lens and forge some tools, the world becomes much less daunting and you can survive indefinitely. It becomes even easier if you take advantage of mills and use snares, you have a constant supply of food and a way to easily level your mending skill. I like to make a few pairs of improvised knives and hatchets, and use a couple pairs to near-breaking, then do one trip to bleak inlet to repair them cheap and quickly. The timberwolves are punishing but if it’s a clear day you can usually crouch and sneak past and not need to worry.
Interloper has taught me how little I actually need to survive each day. My inventory consistently has so much more space than my stalker run even with heavier clothes and tools. You don’t get a lot, but if you’re comfortable with the game you don’t need a lot at all.
I remember being trapped here once, I nearly starved 2 death, never going in there again.
I think if hinterland did put something worthwhile in here no one would notice because no one (except zak) is insane enough to go in lol
First time i've explored it (it was before TFTFT, around when Fearless Navigator came out), it was interloper and I found a can of arachis paste, rifle ammo and fisherman's sweater (i hope i wrote names of those items rightly).
I´m playing a run with custom setting, gunlooper, all setting like intrusión plus weapons. I found a balaclava and a fisherman's sweater in the mine !!

I have done this on a custom run with high loot settings. And yeah, unless you have OCD it's kind of pointless. And dangerous.
First run on it, starting there as a new player, 15th day or so, coming there and Aurora hits, but was scared to stay long time there hahah as I didn't explore more of the map, and didn't know is there an exit so I just went back, looted minimum stuff around 😂 not watching video, just intro, don't want to spoil it for myself 😂

Just got in there on my 150 days loper run. Got electrocuted 2 times, reduced my hp to 10%. Instantly panicked and ran away as fast as possible. Didn't even loot the damn thing. Now I see it wouldn't even be worth it, except for the jerry can maybe.
Are you going to be using the “Time Capsule” feature on Steam to keep this run going?

im on my first interloper run since the update and I can't find any flare cartridges. found two pistols and 1 cartridge. checked all the usual locations... nothing... what has been your experience?
I found 6. I think they were all in pistol caches.
whoa! I had no idea they integrated that mine into survival mode. I thought similarly to the heating system puzzle in Blackrock it was only available in story mode.
I guess it is similar to the way the "cave of the king bear" was integrated into Hushed River Valley.
Technically, the cave was integrated into Story Mode, as it existed prior to Episode 3 :)

I remember this area had some serious monkey bar climbing to do to get to the fuse boxes in the story mode. I would imagine the best loot would be in those same spots. No?
I cant really remember from Episode 3, but the video highlights where loot was found so perhaps you remember?

They drain you. If full health you die in like 3 seconds

Don't do it. The aurora has killed me twice. Once down here and once in the Dam. I never venture out in it any more.
Quite risky to ruin your thousand jorurney run. I was luckily enter un interlooper 79th day running away from power wolf in 2AM find just nice clothes, lot of coal, pair of flares, and a pair of electrical burns. There Is fireplace so i make water there. I was reckless and lucky
Fun fact: when you leave the mine you'll realize it's the area of the shipwreck at the end of chapter 3

No, they wont despawn, just be ruined. Things like tools only decay with use

You can do both. Ruined raw meat can be cooked just fine :) and ruined cooked meat can be eaten safely with cooking level 5

Sorry for the late reply, but yes with Cooking level 5 you ONLY get parasites or food poisoning from RAW meat so a 500 day old slice of COOKED meat is safe to eat.
This came just doesn’t have enough unique things to do. It’s fun to start a new game, but I always end up wanting to off myself around day five. That being said, this is probably as cool as it gets for the game and it’s still a really boring secret especially to watch.
They should have an inner chamber you can only reach once the aurora ends, meaning you have to get in and get out before the next aurora, which would also allow you to leave. Ooooh and then a third inner sanctum you can only get in, when another aurora starts!
