Practicing six to seven hours a day consistently is what really did it for him. The guitar is about consistency not so much how many years you've put into it.

at first d chord was hard for me, then I looked the efficient way to put my fingers together. Nailed it. But switching between chords isn't that easy for me
For me is still a bitch to switch to B so what i do is i practice playing Alicia Keys fallin cause its just two chords its E and B only so after doing that im able to switch better to that chord then i started playing 4 non blondes whats up which also has the B and now i feel i switch easier to it and it sounds cleaner than before, also i think many P!nk songs have the B chord in them to practice to it.

People are forgetting that in the beginning, 30 hours to him was 2 months (practicing 30 minutes each day = 60 days) so he wasn’t just “so good at the beginning”
That would still be VERY shocking given my experience. Not trying to say it would be impossible, but in the few hundred students I've taught over the last decade I've never seen someones muscle memory in regards to jumping directly to a chord with all three/four fingers develop in that short of a time. For the first 1-100 practice hours (over 3-5 months), generally speaking, your fingers still work individually and not as an entire unit. As muscle memory develops, your fingers all start to move together in a single grouped motion to match the shape of the chord rather than find their way to specific, individual frets. Again, it's not like I know whether or not it's impossible for someone to manage that in such a short time; I only have my own experience to go by. But I've never seen anyone even come close from absolute no experience to 30-hours practice resulting in adequate chord transitions, and I have had students who practiced 2-3 hours constantly at the start who are incredible today. So I fully understand why people would find it a bit unbelievable. Still, fun video and fun progress time lapse. Nothing wrong with that.
With a guy that is literally a guitar genius, that is very likely 30hrs. He obviously is gifted. Didn't mean you might get there in 30, but you may in 60 it whatever it takes.
2 months is the very beginning!! I guess for a child that sounds like a long time, but for grown ups that's nothing. That's how long it took for my bed to arrive after I ordered it.
Yeah that +he is really talented. Had this one guy at the music camp, he started playing 9 months ago and was so much better then the rest of us. I think i played for 3 or 4 years at the time. The following year he came back, but guitar became boring - so he played the piano for a week with no prior experience and outperformed other kids playing 3 4 years. It was incredible!
Really many thanks for that lesson. Im 58 years old and I started to play the guitar when I was 14. During I was playing guitar but only few times every month ... not much...Two years ago I had a heart attack and I still alive so I decided to play the guitar again and Im really enjoying now. You teach me that never is to late and that you dont must be the best one ...just enjoyed.... Thank you very much again !

Same. Saw this old guitar in my brothers room he left here after moving out nd was like sure fuck it ill give it a go. And i dont have a clue where id be now if it weren't for doing that
Have to agree. That was not 30 hours from first picking up a guitar. No way you play a passable “Sweet Home Alabama” after 30 hours, and have multiple chords that you hit with ease and can pick the right strings...unless you’re a genius which he might be...
@KRAK3N he said he got his first guitar at 14 but didn't play much. He looks what 18 ish at the 30 hour practice mark. So he practiced for 30 over the course of 4 years? I'm dubious myself lol
Take heart guys and gals if you're scratching your head at this guys development and thinking about chucking it in. I've been playing guitar since I was 13 and am now 60 and I want you to know that this young man learned at an extremely accelerated pace. (I am VERY impressed!) Most new students will take at least a year to attain the abilities he shows by around 30 hours. Some people in fact take much longer, depending on how motivated they are and some folks never progress beyond that point which is perfectly fine if you are content being able to sing along to your own basic though perfectly competent guitar skills. If you do want to continue to advance there is plenty of information online to help you do just that but be patient and understand that we all progress at our own speed and we all have different things to say on the instrument. It's not a race it's a means of expression and a wonderful hobby if you decide to stay with it. Have fun!
I’m one of the people who never progressed, although I’ve had my guitar since before yr 2011. Lol it’s cos I would go months without playing. And when I’d finally pick up my guitar, my fingers would start hurting again and I’d feel frustrated and stop all over again. Plus my left pinky is weird. It always locks at 90 degrees, like a hook, and it makes a popping sound when it unlocks. Clearly this brings me more frustration as I can’t change chords or fingerpick without my pinky locking. Grr
I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this video, I didn't want to, but I did, and now all my musical achievements have been overrun by some dude who could play well at 30 hours.
Do not be discouraged this guy is talking crap, keep playing mate. Even if he is telling the truth he achievement has not bearing on your as person or player.
Let people say whatever they want. But sir, (yes, sir) this is pure motivation. I may not be able to practice 6-7 hours a day but I surely will practice more effectively than before. It just hit me like a damn train that im playing for about 800 hours and yet I'm I'm not anywhere near your 800 hours, let alone where you stand today. I will remember your words, ‘You just need to practice abit more than advanced players.’ I will watch this video whenever I need that extra boost. You just became a hero without a cape. Love from Bangladesh.
I love watching a person truly master a passion. The simple yet wonderful beginnings where its function over form. Watching the ever slow evolution in stages. It's like a tide ebbing and flowing. The end result isn't him playing the guitar, but the guitar playing him through every movement and embellishment. We are amazing creatures. I love it. X
To all those wondering how he improved so quickly, concerted and focused practice is not the same as simply playing. 7000 hours of focused practice you'll have this skill. If 10,000 hours of focused practice is what it takes to master something, then 7,000 hours is close to mastery. How to practice: 1. Keep track of your mistakes and weaknesses 2. Select a mistake or weakness you'd like to improve 3. Set a timer for a reasonable duration (30 minutes for example) where you can stay focused for the entire duration. 4. UA-cam some exercises of how to improve this weakness, or make your own 5. For 30 minutes (or the time you selected) play these exercises deliberately perfectly (meaning play so slowly that you do NOT make a mistake. If you make a mistake, start the exercise over and slow down so that you execute without a mistake) 6. Take a short break 7. Repeat at step 2 for another 30 minutes 7000 hours of that and you'll be at his skill level, guaranteed. "Playing" is not practice. Practice is practice. Now go practice.
Very good point, and that's what I like to call deliberate practice. Don't just keep doing the same thing over and over, find out what you are doing wrong and make adjustments and focus on that ONE area. You can go out and mindlessly put in the effort and bust your ass at something, but if you are not practicing with focused attention to detail with a specific goal of improving your performance, then you are just wasting all your time and energy for nothing. Like you said, research, deliberate practice, and amount of hours is the key to mastering something. I wish someone told me this concept at a early age.
@@denisde849 Where do you find practice stuff? You are LITERALLY living in an era where you can learn and find ANYTHING on the Internet. Enhance your research skills, you are sitting on a gold mine.
I relate to him so much! I got my classic guitar at grade 5 and got private lesson for about two years but stopped. I started again with classic guitar at grade 9 for a year but stopped again. Later in beginning of grade 12 I started again with acoustic guitar and learned really fast from practicing every night for almost 2 hrs (with a lot of blisters and blood :( ). Currently I am almost done with first semester of grade 12 and I can master almost every middle level guitar music piece in maximum of 2 weeks or less (hard work pays off). I have been stressing so much with SAT and college application but guitar helped me get through those stress and anxieties! Playing guitar just makes me happy and makes me feel proud of myself! To all reading this, don't give up because it's hard but try your best!!! at the end you will feel like you have done something amazing!
Mattias Krantz: "I did no longer rely on UA-cam tutorials. I started to rewind performances in 0,5X speed so I could copy every hand movement." Me: Screw guitar classes, lets go on UA-cam.
Here's my progression Stage 1: Smoke on the Water, Enter Sandman, Satisfaction, Nothing Else Matters, etc. Stage 2: the four basic open chords G, D, Em, and C Stage 3: power chords and putting the power chords together with the four chords Stage 4: the rest of the open chords like A, E, Am, and Dm Stage 5: learning the CAGED system and how to switch between all the major and minor chord shapes. And that's basically how you get to be a rhythm guitar player.
I just picked up my first ever guitar yesterday, pretty cheap one but I thought "Hey, sounds like something interesting to do". And honestly, I've done maybe two-three hours of just watching lessons and little practices. I know I just started, but it feels impossible to see me getting any better, just because of how slow and how long it takes to start off, however, I absolutely love playing it already! But after watching this video, this inspired me! Thank you, man, If I ever feel down or at a block, I will just watch this and see how you have improved and overcome those blockages.

This is amazing to see and you have become an unbelievably great guitar player over the past 7 years! For myself, I've wanted to pick up the guitar ever since I was 14 but every time I tried I got unmotivated from the lack of skill, impatience, and finger pain. However, last summer I tried a ukulele at a friend's summer house, learned a simple song with barely any struggle (ofc it didn't sound good but I had a lot of fun with it), and I bought myself a ukulele the moment I got home. Recently I tried to play guitar in our school's music classroom and picked up 5 basic chords right away. It was a lot more fun thanks to my experience with the ukulele which had helped me develop the skills to change chords, apply strumming patterns, and feel no finger pain. This video was a huge motivational push and although I love my ukulele, I can't wait to expand to the guitar as soon as possible and start learning that more as well!

Why? Because of the ammount of hours it took? If you play video games and check how many total hours you've sunk into them, then you'll understand that it really isn't that many hours. More so, playing guitar requires a lot more set of skills than playing video games. I love video games dont get me wrong but i'd rather be doing something that can improve myself and that I can perform to wider spectrum of audience.
@@RenTheGreat Ever heared of e-sports? Aside from that I know this takes skill but not necessarily more than a video game. Sure it's more impozing to play an instrument but don't assume it takes more skill to play a hard piece than being the first worldwide in a game. :D

I always lost my pick in the soundhole. After 30 hours of turning my guitar upside down to shake it out, I did 2 things. One, I bought a Tacoma Roadking with an offset sound hole and then I quit using a pick on an acoustic. That said, I have recently learned Lola and use a pick on it. I read these comments and can say that anyone learning guitar today has it way easier than an old fart like me. You Tube has made it very easy to learn. Some good teachers on here for sure. I'll keep their names to myself.
@Ned Kelly What? If u tube isn't helping you to play better u may as well quit now. And as for picks, they are a matter of preference. Old blues players never used picks.
Lol I relate to the videogames and Netflix comment too. I'm actually learning guitar from my father atm (complete newbie) after wanting to pick up a new hobby and it's challenging but fun. A big problem for me is my fingers don't always seem to want to stretch to the next fret.
I was like that but you hit a point when you think holy shit this is great and you start to play your favourite songs etc then you want to practice more
That's not a skill you reach in 30 hours. He obviously is a returning guitar player. But there are indeed some roadblocks which need to be surpassed. Some get over them slower and others faster. Even if you have short fingers, or fat fingers or whatever. You'll get over them if you practice enough. After that I can guarantee that you'll start to see noticeable improvements and enjoy playing even more. You DO NOT waste money and you DO NOT need to find another hobby if you love playing. WTF is wrong with you people throwing shit like that? Do you even know what a hobby is? You don't need to be Francisco Tarrega or Andres Segovia to enjoy playing the guitar. You don't need to prove anyone that you're better than them. It's about being you with the music you like.

Have fun!

Grr

To all those wondering how he improved so quickly, concerted and focused practice is not the same as simply playing. 7000 hours of focused practice you'll have this skill. If 10,000 hours of focused practice is what it takes to master something, then 7,000 hours is close to mastery.
How to practice:
1. Keep track of your mistakes and weaknesses
2. Select a mistake or weakness you'd like to improve
3. Set a timer for a reasonable duration (30 minutes for example) where you can stay focused for the entire duration.
4. UA-cam some exercises of how to improve this weakness, or make your own
5. For 30 minutes (or the time you selected) play these exercises deliberately perfectly (meaning play so slowly that you do NOT make a mistake. If you make a mistake, start the exercise over and slow down so that you execute without a mistake)
6. Take a short break
7. Repeat at step 2 for another 30 minutes
7000 hours of that and you'll be at his skill level, guaranteed. "Playing" is not practice. Practice is practice. Now go practice.
nice
I thought everyone just watched these videos for fun, guess not.
And where do i find practice stuff? What songs to play? What chords? This is impossible for beginners.
@@denisde849 Where do you find practice stuff? You are LITERALLY living in an era where you can learn and find ANYTHING on the Internet. Enhance your research skills, you are sitting on a gold mine.

This is exactly the video I needed today, I’m home sick and I’m gonna try to get as good as you one day
me too
Yea.. Guess that would be me if I didnt discover videogames and Netflix.
Then stop it and start practicing! You really dont need Netflix. Its hard, but it is worth it.
haha well said.. In theory. I am learning ukulele atm actually. Faster progress lol
Lol I relate to the videogames and Netflix comment too. I'm actually learning guitar from my father atm (complete newbie) after wanting to pick up a new hobby and it's challenging but fun. A big problem for me is my fingers don't always seem to want to stretch to the next fret.
I was like that but you hit a point when you think holy shit this is great and you start to play your favourite songs etc then you want to practice more
Until you realize he referenced skyrim,a game you cannot simply just play the main storyline, only. He played a song from it here.
WTF after 30 hours ur as good as I am now, and Iv'e been playing for 8 years!!!
You should stop studying man.
Learn something else, you are wasting money.
Lol use youtube tutorail by:( Let Play Guitar) He's so good he taught me havana and let her go
I second what Andre says. If that's where you're at after 8 years - time to find a new hobby lol.
@@theFrogLiege Thanks.....Lul
I just want a CT scan of this guy's brain. Genius.
My Dota 2 played 7000 Hours too :(
Same with me... Sad story bro, really sad story
@@TheXalkk Hahahaha...
More like dota poo *dab*
Sheh ... I was relating it to my Dota 2 game time. Found yours here. LOL
bro, how youre rank?
For all the people you say that he got better faster than them, have you really been practicing, or were just picking at it?
currently at around 3 hours, watch out man im on ma way
Me too
How’s it been?
@@Riri-hh1ue It feels much more "natural" when I play guitar.I have played on it for around 1 hour every day and I definitely noticed, that my transitions between chords are much faster and when it comes to finger style, its also faster and more accurate.
The only problem is, that I am not @home right now for 1 week, and i couldn't bring the guitar with me, so i won't be able to play for a week :C
But yeah, i just love playing guitar and the more progress i make the more fun it is, thanks for asking btw :)
Got an update for us my dude?
A update would be great yes..n
For all the doubters of his early progress, some people just have a natural gift for things. You think usain bolt was ever slow? John mayer masterd the minor pentatonic scale in 7 days, and was playing note for note covers of SRV's texas flood in clubs within 6 months.. Some people are gifted, the key is finding where your gift is and harnessing that knowledge and leveraging it
Well said.
Is not about being gifted, is about putting the soul into it
@@coseacaso1842 agreed
That's it, i'm buying a guitar.
it s funny i actually command it online one today since a i5 core laptop was to expensive hahahah XD
Do it, buy don't buy cheap. Buy the most expensive and the best guitar you can afford. Because, you can't broke a guitar unless you smash it. It will last you for years... so you'll havegood guitar for years to come.
Go for a guitar for atleast 300$ at first
u won't regret it
One of the best things that'll ever happen to you, just be patient and keep practicing, it's much more than being able to play music..
U gave me more inspiration to continue playing guitar, learn percussive style(and Flamenco too) cause i started 5 months ago and wanted to quit
Not sure if I trust this kid, I've seen a lot of people learning guitar for the first time and 30 hours in they couldn't even play happy birthday.
Bruh 🙄 I’m not even 30 hours in and I can play safe and sound
He practiced seriously
You just gotta put your mind in to it
I’ve learned 4 chords around 15 hours in that’s enough to play plenty of songs
I have had a guitar for a month now and the songs I can play are the godfather theme, the last of us theme and the river flows in you (a bit simpler version than the one in this video) all of those are fingerstyle obviously
and those are not for trying to flex but just to say with evidence that yes you can learn some solid songs in the beginning of your path
This is incredible! Hard work pays off!
I'm at about 180 hours currently, and I'm still as white as ever. When can I expect to begin to look Asian?
At about 7000 hrs.
I'm ethinically half Asian and have about 1000 hrs in when can I stop looking like I'm Latino?
I'm at about 320 hours currently, and i'm already an Asian
...???
If you start white as you did, you will slightly resemble an Asian around 10,000 but I’d give up if your goal is full asian
Put tons of makeup to look like bts shit
Finally after 2846 hours the guitar is in tune :D .. seriuosly though good job keeping the discipline and advancing so fast
I heard it's good luck if you play Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin in a guitar store
Bruh
Ye you get free cookies
Hope Bluto don't walk by as you play it.lol I gave my love a cherry that had no stone
No lol
Not if you wanna leave with all your teeth it's not!!
Respect to the guy who is trying to reach mastery level! You are so near! Keep going!
10:56 Wow amazing dude
Me trying to play Baby shark:
Impossible.
7000 hours... So thats about 2 hours and 45 minutes each and every day for the past 7 years... respect
Thank you sir. Your video inspired me to get my first guitar 2 years ago. Now I’m still playing it and learning well.
I started in May 2011 too but then I quit for about 3 years and now I'm still on your 3056 hours level🙁 I've started playing again and I don't plan on quitting this time😤
YOU my MAN are a ROCKSTAR!!
Turns out he was good at guitar the whole time
