AMAZING that the Amtrak train looks like it is going so slow from a distance and then suddenly, it speeds by! WOW!! Glad Mark was paying attention and had time to get out of the way. 😅
i live outside of billings i am a quaddrapalegic and love your videos i guess vicariously i can travel through your videos if you come through here let me know would love to say hey and send you off with a few items to help you with your endeavors
Hi Shoe, so glad to find your site. Grew up in South Texas, my Dad rode cars all over the south after depression told me all about it. I think of him when I see a load of cars go by. I’m enjoying your ride thru life, it is a relief from thinking of mine to ride along. Thanks man.
Wish I'd found this channel years ago. Just found it a couple weeks ago but it's really interesting. Wish the hobos from the old days had video cameras and youtube.
Shoestring welcome to Louisiana! This is the hottest place in the country! See if you were closer to New Orleans it gets even hotter and the humidity makes it feel like you can cut the air with a knife! I've been saying that since I have gotten older I need to move somewhere with less humidity and less heat! But I'm Cajun and Comanche Indian and a little bit of German and I've lived here and fished and hunted my whole life and worked here as well! Definitely time to start considering moving somewhere else! Peace out Shoestring and stay safe!
''Yes, THE HUMIDITY in LA., Louisiana; can be SOMETHING! How about=a 104 DEGREE Day in Laredo, TX., / Nuevo Laredo, MEXICO; on February 6, 2000? How does THAT SOUND, for Heat?'' ''Later; Brian CANUCK-THE BREEZE Murza, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.''
That is a clean looking Party Patio, nice, white. Do they all have the hole allowing you to move inside where you can't be seen by anyone? I can see that, that white grain car has no opening to the inside. What function does it serve is there any reason some have them and others do not?
Enjoyed your ride. As usual (outside of Alaska). I had an opportunity to see 100 coal cars out of Montana rolling 15 minutes apart. I voted against that traffic since that industry wanted 90 million gallons of my county freshwater to wash off the coal dust before it went to Asia. Most voters agreed and said "NO" to coal interests. Go figure.
It would seem to be easy to avoid getting hit by a train simply by not standing on a track unless you can see several miles in both directions and keeping your eyes and ears open.
I've read everything I have been able to find on Stobe's death and there are still some questions in my mind. I f you read the entire page from SSOH listing the police conversation about finding the body it leads you under the impression he was on a high bridge without much room and apparently no safety rail. He had to act fast and lowered himself over the side and a strap on his backpack failed. He fell and died instantly on top of another track and was dragged for a bit breaking a lot of his bones. The story means I'd have to believe a 10 year veteran would walk across the kind of bridge without a plan. He didn't strike me as that type pf person. continued..
part 2, I think he would have removed the back pack and carried it so if a train arrived he could lay it down or toss it so he could hang over the side of the bridge. Here is the link to the page I am talking about. ssoih.com/stobe.html
Maybe i am overthinking it but Stobe was an intelligent guy so I cannot reasonably reconcile the cause of his death without being left with a question no mater which story I believe. Additionally, if you recall, for a couple of months prior to the accident he had several backpacks fail on him. He griped about them on his video so I am certain in a close quarter situation on a bridge he would have carried it instead of wearing it so he could rid himself of it. I may go to Baltimore and complete my own investigation. Not that it changes anything but I don;t like his last ride painting him into that careless of a rider.
Please be careful Shoestring. "It’s so easy to slip It’s so easy to fall Let your memory slip.. Thinking of you looking down on that wheel..onto the track. SHOBE .. Don’t be next, please.
