- Adam Auxier and I had set out for a day of railfanning in Southern Illinois. The day was gloomy and as we proceeded north rain showers changed over to snow flurries . . . this however didn't stop us from catching some pretty neat stuff.
13:50 - We were expecting to see M335, a NB Canadian National freight train to roll through Odin, Illnois. But we got a surprise and the CSX ran an eastbound train from St. Louis on their seldom used former B&O line.

13:59 - M33571-05 (Memphis, TN - Fond du Lac, WI)
After running main #1 through Centralia and meeting the southbound Amtrak train 392 this 7,000 foot freight train cruises through Odin at about 30 miles an hour. The Nathan P5 sounds awesome on the 1026!

14:31 - After meeting A43291-05 at Tonti and being held up by the Union Pacific at the Kinmundy Interlocker the engineer gets the train underway again at Kinmundy, Illinois.
14:40 - Rolling along at 40 MPH we pace the train through Farina, Illinois. A large grain elevator stretches along the tracks through town.
14:55 - After M33681-04 went onto the Bluford Subdivision at Edgewood Jct. M335 got the signal and proceeded towards Effingham, Illinois.
15:21 - With the Nathan Airchime P5 blaring IC 1026 rolls through Effingham, Illinois pounding the diamonds with its 7,000 feet of freight.
15:46 - A very short Union Pacific Pacer Stack train rolls through Effingham on the CSXT's St. Louis Line.

FUN FACT: The standard cab SD70s Air line to the horn was so long that even when the valve is just closed, pressure remains in the line, blowing the horn, kinda quilling it too until it runs out of air
Which is why it tapers off instead of stopping immediately
ahhh the p5s the railfans dreams
Yeah I Always Dream About P5's Too Well Not Only Nathan P5's But Nathan P2's, P3's & P5's Are The Only Horns I Always Dream About😎😎
You should go to the NPR. That’s the only series horn they have on their SD60Fs.
Nobody gonna talk about how perfectly timed that horn blast was at 5:54?Right when the nose of that loco popped out from the side of the rail cars. 💯
That's one heck of a P5 on 1026!!!
EMD SD 70's ,doin' what they do best ;haulin' butt!
Best sound, EMD's in run 8
The Conrail unit at the beginning was epic!
Nice Catch!!!
And that is why the Nathan P5 is my favorite horn!
MDSerles The new cast Nathan P5's sound awesome indeed. We have a lot of them in Australia. Do they get many freight trains in California and Nevada with nice sounding new cast Nathan P5's?
Never. Only on CDTX cabcar 8306 which has a New Cast P3.
Yeah Definitely Nathan P5's Are 1 Of My Favorite Train Horn & SD70 1026 My Favorite Engine
I LOVE THAT COOL NATHAN P5 HORN
Love those emd locomotives!can't beat them for reliability!
Great Video! I love the IC P5 Horns! :)
This Is A Fun Video To Watch
1026 horn 🤩
Ooo wow a CSX and a Conrail. Cool nice catch. Have a great day everyone.
That is the sickest crossing ever. Right on a diamond! You can see the signals in both bdirections. I believe one the bells was a Safetran Hybrid mechanical with the double clanking at the end.
Awesome video- lots a great sounds! Thanks for sharing!
4:00 love that P5,badass
Awesome shots! Looking forward to more.
Oddly enough, I chased IC 1026 today, except it was trailing behind a CN Dash 9.
Nice!!! Another great pacing video. Your awesome man. Thanks!!!
Great chasing action!
Awesomeness! Badass P5 for sure!
JIZZ! I love the p5!!
GREAT video, Andrew!
Nathan P5 Horns are the best! Especially on a Norfolk Southern too!
THE VOICE of the I.C : Nathan Airchime P5's :D SURE SOUNDING GOOD TOO !!! Great Catch & great video!
Deafening! Loved it!
Nice catches Anderw!
That CN 5501 is a SD50AF now on the DMVW
👍👍
@pacirr Thanks for the information! I knew there wasn't alot of traffic on this line.. when I saw the head light I went nuts!
That echo around 4:13-4:14...WOW! Amazing shots, gotta love that P5!
SD70 1026 Gotta Be My Favorite SD70 Engine Along With It's Sweet Nathan P5 Horn
Standard SD70's are best, can't stand the wide cabs.
@@gordonvincent731 Indeed
holy crap. the engineer must love the sound of the horn too. lol
No it’s just a manual lever, it takes a few second to open and close causing it to continue blowing air in the horn until the air is completely closed.
@heelblocks I've always wondered that. Almost all IC videos I've seen with horn it's basically one long blast. Thanks for the info!
@heelblocks yeah, that was a good catch; I've actually went under a CSX at Greendale twice in the last few months
@IC1034 Thanks Lewis!
Great video . Engineer was way overzealous on the whistle on the IC train.
I LOVE DIESEL POWERED FREIGHT TRAINS
That CSX train at Odin should be either Q265 or Q247, both are stl-louisville auto rack trains. There is a Q204 wb autos, and unless it has changed they are the only regular trains, plus occasional extras.
@DieselSmoke92 CN 5529 has a solenoid.... almost all of the 1000s have a manual valve.
@SantaFebuff I have a night video from Carbondale, Illinois rendering as we speak. It will be up in an hour or so.
If Ya'll Wanna Skip The Beginning Of This Video To IC 1026's Nathan P5, Skipping Is Required At 2:19
2:54 That was a real stupid person at that crossing in that car.
Conrail!
@gregtrain1 Well it's really the only way to blow the horn on these engines. The P5 lags greatly due to an extremely long airline. A standard long-long-short-long is literally impossible.
So SD70's have extremely long airlines? So that's why they have "never-ending horns" as my friends and I call them...
Ironically Theirs a ICG Grain hopper at 5:49
bro the first consist is foam
Hopefully The CN doesn't decide to Repaint it or scrap it.
what camera is this
in the start of the video is that CR engine repainted
+Joe Dohn ok
Yes
CONRAIL
I'm pretty sure that's a k5la..
I'm pretty sure you're wrong.
A p5 has more of a squeak when it sounds that's probably an 80's k5la
Sean Lynn no way that's a K5, its a P5 for certain.
Sean Lynn on the csx you mean?
+dtiman i think he means on that csx dash 8
5:11 nice echo
