@NewEnglandWildlifeAndMore I get mine from the Mormon storehouse. They have it sealed in mylar (stated 20yr shelf life). They also have a bunch of food in #10 size cans. Their dried apples are amazing. What's nice is that I've been there many times and they never asked me about religion, or even my name. Super nice folks. I'm in Ohio, but they have those storehouse all over the country. I believe they will even ship too.
I'm ancient and I remember powdered milk, but I only saw it in boxes similar to cereal boxes, never in a can. I think it's sold in cans a lot now though.
Seeing your shelves and how extensive that collection has become is awesome. I can’t believe how many of these vids I’ve watched over the years. Keep it up!
Our family travelled around Australia in a converted hiace van when I was a kid as an educational extended holiday, and one of my take aways from it was powdered milk is one of those things that need to be done right or it's quite off putting. Since the fridge in the van was quite small powdered milk was a staple for nearly 4 months of my life. If it's too hot or not enough powder it tastes quite watery, if the powder isn't stirred enough or refuses to loose it's chunks it has a weird texture that is also not cool. Sometimes when your mum is adding it to cereal and it's warm with chunks it's enough to elicit a powdered milk phobia 😢 But on the flip side, if mixed correctly it can be nearly exactly like regular milk 😊
These videos make my day! Your voice is nice and calm, not extremely loud or annoying, and it's nice to listen to while I sleep. Hope you have a amazing year Post 10! Hope to see more canned foods, maybe a return of decades old canned foods?
KLIM was a powdered milk given in Red Cross food parcels to British POW’s in WW2. They saved the tins to make the air ducts in escape tunnels. KLIM was milk spelled backwards.
Just discovered your channel in the last few weeks and have been devouring your videos very much like you devour ancient foods! I love what you’re doing and am addicted to your videos! Keep it up! PS - maybe one day we can get a look at your VHS collection?!
The grain silo explosion is a chain reaction. The dust is sitting and flying everywhere. Once a heat source causes the airborne dust to reach its flashpoint, it ignites, which causes a shockwave to travel down the silo, kicking up every piece of settled flour dust into the air, causing it to also ignite, the cycle continues until there is no flour or silo left.
One thing I was really really surprised about in this video, was the consistency of the milk powder. It was very airy if that makes sense. It was really cool watching you tap it down in the first jar. It really showed off just how light the powder was. Super cool stuff.
Powdered milk is really good in coffee, since it lets you basically get the same effect as creamer but with no artificial ingredients. It doesn't dilute the coffee like regular milk, it just makes it creamier. It also makes home made ice cream smoother, because you can get that creamyness and milkyness into it without adding water that will just freeze into ice crystals.
I use a rechargeable vacuum sealer on my mason jars for dry products. It forms a vacuum seal for my noodles my rice, beans... things like that. You don't need the band. You just use the lids

It smells like burnt hair because like hair it has protein in it's makeup. The power burns very well and the right mixture of air to particles would definitely explode. Cool video,Postie.
My lactose intolerant stomach could never 😄 Luckily I can find lactose free milk powder from my local store, haven’t bought it in years though. You could use that powder while baking if you have run out of milk. Nice video ❤
We drank powdered milk when I was growing up in the 70's. The brand we used was Sanalac. It came in paper tubes in a box very similar to Kraft macaroni and cheese cheese packets but larger. My father put a black line on the water fill level of the blender and we would make milk that way. It was terrible if it was not cooled in the refrigerator overnight. It was pretty important to mix it well also which is why we used a blender.
Today's dry milk taste better after it's been cold. And what I've learned about canning is that when you get your jars wash them all out and sterilize them before you put your food in them. before you put your lids on take a paper towel or a clean rag and dip it in some white vinegar and then bring out the excess and wipe the top of the jar lid so it seals better. And then they need to be sealed. I'm sure you know someone who cans up food ask them about it or Google it or ask on UA-cam and they will show you exactly what to do and tell you how to do it because that's what I've had to do whenever I can anything or even my dry products. You can use one of the sealer products at Walmart that seals tops on things. Or there's another person I know on UA-cam her husband made a gadget for sealing up your dry food. It makes it last longer and bacteria will not grow in it if it's sealed. Also with any of your powders, like flower is better to fluff up the flower the powder before you use it for measuring it's more accurate. Just sharing some info for you. Love your channel!!!!
Keep in mind when using that as a milk replacer for other things, it has a vanilla sweet flavor and that will carry over to whatever you are trying to make.
that milk can labeling is awesome. I’ve always been interested in old packaging though. I tried some 70 year old coffee out of a very old Military ration, and it tasted normal. And I was amazed by that. Everyone tries new things, nothing wrong with trying old things. The milk protein might smell a little odd over time, but it won’t be dangerous. Freeze dried stuff always lasts the longest.
One of these days I’m gonna send you a 70s Swing-a-way can opener so you quit farting around with that finger slicing little thingy lol, best can opener I’ve ever used
I was bottle fed dry milk (of course mixed with water) on occasions when I was a baby, but I would've never thought dry milk would taste good. I never been a fan of it, but when you are in an emergency situation, then dry milk comes in handy.
