Honestly, I would gladly watch 1000 videos in a row like this. I love Virgil’s drumming so much. There are many drummers who are masters to the point of their playing seeming effortless, but Virgil has always squeezed out that subtle extra percentage of effortlessness that makes him almost like an alien to me. Happy to have you on earth, man!
Virgil the voyager. Exploring uncharted drumming territory! I don’t know if any one man has spent more time alone with his drums tirelessly pursuing mastery.
Always enjoyed odd time signatures! Way back in the early '70's, I played in Don Ellis' workshop band, in N. Hollywood, Ca. Don's sax man, Sam Falzone directed us through Don's music. One of my favorite tunes by Don was Bulgarian Bulge that was in 33/16 + 36/16. You've always sounded terrific to me, Virgil and even now, I consider you the top drummer on the scene, today! Thank you.
In.a world of Dave Weckls, Mike Manginis, Terry Bozzios, Mike Portnoys, Kirk Covingtons of the world ....all of whom I dearly LOVE....Virgil Donati is my absolute favorite. What he has done with his own band and Andre Neary and others is just bonkers. I love VD's drumming and his musicality so very much. My favorite band of all time is Tribal Tech but I feel Virgil may have surpassed them.
As an sE electronics artist myself I must say you have a great sound sir, Im fan of you for 2 decades now... Stay on your path and healthy and thanks for your hard work and sharing your talents to the world! Cheers, Jeroen Simons, Independent, Epica.
As a guitarist, I'm completely transfixed with Virgil's sense of phrasing. It's like he's " dancing " between the different timbres of the kit and yet manages a solid time feel. And, I especially love the two camera setups he does ( which inspired me to do my own camera style editing when studying my own practice sessions ). Thanks Virgil for making a difference in my life. Come back to Sacramento when you can. There are A LOT of fans that miss you!
Acho que assisti o Donati em Floripa lá por 2011. Ele fez umas coisas "em x" (mão esquerda e pé direito em uma métrica e mão direita e pé esquerdo em outra métrica), depois nunca mais vi ele fazendo algo parecido.
Vieni solo in Toscana???? Mi piacerebbe incontrarti a Milano Ti registro a gratis!!
Virgil will always be one of my favorite drummers! I love this, but I don't consider it practice. This is playing, or jamming. It's also super important and valuable, but it's not practice! Practice is finding something specific you want to work on and...working on it. Over, and over, and over...until you have it perfected as well as you can. Practice is not fun, it's boring and hard work. It's NOT "unique", IT'S MEASURABLE, exactly the same every time, so you can actually see and measure your progress. And it's not fun to watch on UA-cam, so no one actually posts their practice, they post jamming. I love it, but call it what it is.
Brother, he actually wrote what he's practicing with each grove... I think that when one of the best drummers of all time writes he's practicing, he probably is.

After more than 2 decades of listening (and trying like hell to emulate), Virgil remains at the top of my "I didn't know a human could do that" this.
You know he's on another planet when he was too much for Dream Theater.
Virgil is definitely on another level!
@@BrandonGrieve I'm still mad they didn't pick him lol
I really admire the dedication and persistence after all these years of constantly pushing boundaries. That's why I like Virgil so much.
the personification of precision, power, commitment and control. The GOAT.
Great musician, great guy! Saw him many years ago in Curitiba, Brazil. Planet X always been my favorite band.
Great to see that even the best drummers practice nailing those 4/4 grooves!
😂

I love how you play with time, stretching and compressing it, Virgil. Always a master at your craft. I loved seeing you with Holdsworth.
My brain is melting. Only one Virgil.those toms mannnn ! Thunder
I love that early 80s snare sound. Reminds me of the psychedelic bands of the era

Truly The Drum God. Unreachable.
Love how no matter how complicated, there's always a sense of depth and groove to what he does.

Fantastic. Great to see new video. Sound and video excellent. It's always a privilege to feel your passion and ideas.
The most technically advanced and gifted drummer ever in my opinion.
What’s that snare ?incredible sound
Thank you for continuing to inspire since the Southern Sons days Virgil! Happy new year!
so much air and flow, destiled and deeply great drumming, master
So good...I'm not even sure I realize how deadly this is. Someday maybe I will
Really digging this, there are some really grooving patterns executed with authority. Virgil is lit with this. 🔥
Sounds awesome.30 years of following you mate .
Artistry in Rhythm. Thank you.
beautiful sound
GOAT Status...
The best!!!!
The guy from Mars !
Came and saw you a few years back with Thomas Lang, was a great show!
Sensacional a capacidade e a Criatividade de Virgil
最高にかっこいい👍😊🎉
Hello master, your name inspired me to name my son “Mohammed Virgil Afghani”... 🤘
kick drum sounds awesome in this one
I like how the snare is both fat and tight-sounding at the same time. Good highs and lows. It really breaths.
The acoustics of the room produces this sound!
@DougBrito Yes it does and also the way Virgil hits the snare.
Great to see a new upload!!
Inspirational.
Amazing drummer!!!
Greeting from indonesian fans.
wooooow great !
Great as Always!!!! Virgil Where are you living these days..????

He's un-human!🥁😎

BEAST!

Great playing. Are you releasing the music you were working on with Allan when he passed away?
🙌🏻💯❤️🔥

FIRST!
Howdy Virgil? How many hours have you practiced today?
I have done five hours!

Once again, Virgil's drum mics are nonpareil.

The best hits are made with way simpler rhythms. These kind of rhythms will never make it to the music parades
Virgil will always be one of my favorite drummers!

You’re telling Virgil Donati what practice is. Just take a moment to absorb what you’ve done here 😂
