I grew up in Alta's neighboring town, Hammerfest on the coast of Finnmark. Nice to see that you got to experience both dog sledding and the northern lights. I have been many times in Alta, and have experienced both. I am a Norwegianized Sami, and know well both reindeer herding culture and Sami culture in general. Reindeer meat is delicious. Hope you got to taste dried reindeer meat, which is high up on the list of the best I've ever eaten.

Thank you for the great and insightful comment. And amazing to hear you're Sami!
Reindeer meat was indeed so delicious - but we didn't try "dried reindeer meat"! Bummer. I guess that's an excuse to come back again in the future!

@@PollyAndJon Another thing you should try is "boknafisk", half dried fish, cod, I guess. Served in the traditional way with bacon, potatoes and carrot in one way or another - it is delicious.

    Hello
When the dogs poop, you’re supposed to slow down or ideally stop the sled, instead of continuing at full speed I am betting you had a long trip before and were tired while the guides surely explained this before handing you the sled. Nevertheless, nice video, a bit too much screaming and hype for me but needless to say you got talent in making videos and I will enjoy watching the next videos in your lineup.

Hey you guys are such a pleasant and cute couple! Im planning on visiting Alta the end of October and I know this might be a silly question but will it be very snowy at that time of the year? If not would November be better? Really hope you see this and help me out. Thanks

Aww thank you! And that’s not a silly question at all! In terms of when, the snowfall season typically starts beginning of October to May, but the peak month for snow is January. So, if you wait longer, you will experience more snow (and darker polar days/nights).
Though we believe they are open from October, we have also contacted the dogsledding place to confirm - still awaiting their reply but will let you know once we know.
Lastly, if you also checked out our ice igloo hotel video in Alta, then note that it usually won’t open until mid-December or so.
Hope this helps and just ask if anything else. And thanks again for the kind words!

We have checked with the Holmen Husky in regards to dogsled and their reply was as follows: "We usually start dogsleds in November, but do similar trips (on wheels) from September."

Thank you so much! Not sure if we can wait until January but talking it over with my boyfriend we might now go in the first week in December!
That's great that we can at least go dogsleding!
I want to thank you really for replying and checking into this for me. You have no idea how much you helped!
