⁉️🙋🏼♀️ HAVE YOU BEEN TO NORWAY 🇳🇴 WINTER TIME? What was your favourite winter activity? What’s your favourite place to visit in Norway? 😉 Thank you! Stay safe ❤️
@Anna Goldman thank you in MN I usually be able to outside with no gloves on in winter but thanks for that can't wait to go soon I wish I could meet you one day too for showing how awesome Norway is ❤️❤️❤️🇳🇴🇳🇴😩❤️❤️
I was in 2019 for 4 days in Tromsö. I chase northern lights, eat good Norwegian meals, talk with people. Dog sliding was to much cold in Camp Tamok. Anna i want to meet you 🙌🏻🫶🏻😜
Hi Anna, No I haven't been to Norway in winter and I'll be sure to follow your tips. I may even get slip on spikes as well. I was in Japan a while back and staying upright on the ice was a real challenge. My boots weren't the best - broad chunky tread, better suited for mud - so I'll get better boots with finer tread and have the spikes as a backup. Thanks Anna.
I live in the forest outskirts of Oslo. A couple of years ago we went to a Smashing pumpkins concert in Oslo Spektrum. The guitarist James Iha opened the show with saying "Hello Oslo, Norway. The land of practical footwear" 😆 everybody in the arena totally got the joke emidiatly😊
Thank you so much for the helpful video, Anna! I’ll be finally making the winter trip to the land of my ancestors this coming Winter - beyond excited to see the fjords, northern lights, and old Viking sites.
hello Anna, every single day i came here to watch one of your video to help improve my english. This way i can learn more about the country that i will living in and also train my english. '''i have plans to live on Norway, but not this year."
I live in the middle of Norway, Oppdal more specific. Well, got proper snowy winter her, and my job is turism and to try to remove it all winter long from roads, driveways etc, and a lot of snow this year. But to get a break after the national winter holidays, I tomorrow will take a week personal vacation..to Svalbard 😅 Can`t help it, we Norwegians love winter. Looking forward to the amasing geographical landscape , study history, maybe visit the permafrost global seed vault, long hikings and snowmobile trips. And hopefully see a polar bear(on a safe distance)🤞✌
this is really helpful thanks! I'm going to norway next week and was going to take my moon boots, but I have hiking boots exactly like yours and will take those instead!
Really well made video! Made a couple of these as well, since really the most asked questions is “what do I wear in winter in Tromsø” 😂 and then still you see tourists around in sneaker and jeans, that cannot even stay outside 5 seconds cause they are too cold 😂
Jatte bra video Anna! I have a nice halsduk “scarf” that matches one of my winter jackets but, I do not wear it for the exact reasons you mentioned. However, I like keeping my scarf around regardless. But instead, I use neck warmers as well.
OMG, this is so so helpful, thank you!! I'm Spanish and I'm going to Estonia for a year... I was totally lost about which clothes I should buy since weather is compleeetely different!! But I think I might use all your tips :)
Yes I went to Tromso in January wearing 'snow boots' I bought in Australia where it rarely gets into negative number temperatures and the only bit of me that was cold were my feet. Everywhere else was warm but every night when I took my boots off I expected to see black dead toes. I don't know why I still have them. It was painful.
Sunglasses or googles in the Arctic Circle are a must even during the shorter days, sun may be low in the sky but still intense on the eyes. Kirkenes in December during the Polar Night and possibilities of the Northern Lights, sounds like a winning combination. Everyone should see the Northern Lights at least once in their lifetime, but when you see it once, you will want to see them again and again and again.
Great information! ❤ We are heading to far North of Norway in February from 30+ celcius weather in Australia - the balaclava and goggles for dog sledding - great advice! Will pack them . The other thing I've read is to take spikes as we are not accustomed to walking on icy snow and my stepmum gave me reheatable hand warmers from switzerland that you can put in the microwave, hopefully they work ok?! ps love your half British/ half European Accent 😊
Not kidding but I live almost as north you can come at the main land.... I wear sneakers even wintertime... and jeans. Also a tshirt cotton and a fleecejacket. Do have a neckwarmer knitted one... we call these Hals the norwegian word for neck. But when it blow and snow comes horizontally... I roll up the neckwarmer and tuck the knitted headthingie and place my snowglasses on... then you are pretty protected.
@@arcticblue248 here maybe 😉 but for Italians, French and Spanish tourists who are just coming to Norway for a week to see the northern lights .. well.. they might need some more clothes 😁
@@AnnaGoldmanTravel That is true, and its ofcourse difference between being in the towns and out hiking.... or when the youths are out snowmobiling then ofcourse you dress up for the weather that might come, and ofcourse have the gear for survival if something happens, weather change fast up here, many don't know that.
last fall we was spontanously moving to finland. we bought a small "Mökki" which was really cheap on the countryside of east finland. First winter we experienced there -40 °C ^^ I LOVED it. But in order to take the dogs out I had to run with them most of the time to get them warm. But they didn't need dog shoes that way :D
Thanks Anna, this was an amazing video. I am planning a trip to Norway (Bergen and Lofoten islands) with my 6 y old in Feb . I have hiked in Scotland during winters but I am sure hiking in Norway will be whole different level so I need to ensure that I don’t come unprepared and you got me all sorted.
that was a great video. you'd give someone an heart attack if you walked into the bank with that Ballaclarver on. but it looks warm. I have a snood and I love it. I hope your keeping well have a great week
Actually... atleast outside bigger cities there are no banks any longer. Most transactions are done by card or electronic payment like Vipps. Most places dont have minibanks either or ATMs... so no worries with propper winter clothing 😀
Thanks again for practical and realistic guide for norwegian winters. As you say, shoes are extremely important, and your advice is good and practical. But make sure the shoes are not too tight around your feet. There must be enough room for the insulation to be effectve. Also I would tip people about sweating in the cold. You may remember I warned you about sweating before? If you are never far away from a house you can get into, then you can ignore this advice, but if you need to be out for a longer time, then don't start sweating, especially not on your feet. As soon as you calm down your activity the sweat will evoporate and cool you down drastically. Maybe I am too concerned about this, so ask other norwegians if they think similar to me. I had experiences as a child about this that make me emphasize it so much as a grown up.
🤩🤩🤩 thank you very much indeed! Great advice! Definitely very important when you go hiking for a long time in winter. Layers will definitely help prevent you from sweating
Can I do my winter clothes shopping in Oslo or Tromso as an American or is that not advised? I have some standard winter stuff that might work, but I suspect I'll need to get something warmer once I arrive in January.
Hi Anna ! I am travelling the 6th January for my birthday and I am real scared because it will be my first time in a climate like that also I am not good with GPS 😜😎 and I need to find the place where I am staying over 5 nights 😂 ! I hope people can help me politly just in case if I need a guide 😂😂😂😂
Hello Anna, what is the end of February like in Norway? This is when I’m scheduled to come and I need to know what to pack. Also, I wouldn’t want to pack so many things since I’m staying for long. Please guide me
to me that's not a hat 7:30 it's a beanie xD but oh well, a hat normally is basically like a cap but is much taller xD lol but I get it British english vs US english I understand
Hiking boots for minus 29°C ????? And sledding??! that's a big no no except if you take one or two size bigger than your usual size and wear at least two sick pairs of wool socks. Be aware that hiking shoes are not insulated, especially at the toe box.
