They did not record an album until 1978. They officially broke up in 1983, but reformed for later concerts and albums. Band members - Lead singer is Jimmy Barnes or Barnsey. He started the song prior to the guitarist going up to the mic. That guy is Ian Moss or Mossy. He also sings quite a few songs. In any band he'd get the sole lead singer role but he actually asked the other members to bring in a dedicated singer. Jimmy was only 16 and a half when he joined. The other members include Don Walker on keys (and although they all write songs, he wrote the majority), Phil Small on bass, and Steve Prestwich RIP in 2011, on drums. Dave Blight was on harmonica for this performance. They have songs as ballads like Forever Now, and My Baby, rock songs like Goodbye (Astrid Goodbye) and the cover of Wild Thing, blues songs like this one, soul songs like Knocking on Heavens Door (Bob Dylan Cover) from 1980, and Standing on on the Outside. Breakfast at Sweethearts has a reggae sound. Then some of my other favourites include Letter to Alan, Choir Girl, When the War is Over, Flame Trees, Cheap Wine, Saturday Night, No Sense, You Got Nothing I want (a song written on their return from America), One Long Day, Home and Broken Hearted, Lost, Way Down, Long As I can see the light (CCR cover), Janelle, Ita, All for you, Four Walls, Khe Sanh, Conversations and Rising Sun..... And still I feel I've left some good ones out. Massive fan. I have 🎟 tickets to see Chisel in October for their 50th reunion tour.
Three. Add Steve Prestwich into the mix. Grab a hold of his first solo album "Since you've been gone". I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how good it is.
Cold Chisel went to the states in the early 80s to tour & on returning to Australia put down their thoughts on the U.S. music industry. The song is called: ‘You Got Nothin’ I Want’.
Ahhhhhhhh! Cold Chisel, with Jimmy Barnes on lead vocals and Iam Moss also handling quite a few of the vocals. Great Australian band that was very big in that country for years, and deservedly so. Jimmy Barnes did a collaboration with Joe Bonamassa a few years back called "Stone Cold." You want your socks knocked off? Give that one a try.
Trust me, regardless of living under a rock or not, until recently not many of my overseas musical collaborators had ever heard or heard of Cold Chisel. Some of these people had played with Fleetwood Mac as emergency replacement and other well known artists. None had heard them, and every single one of them absolutely loved them when they finally did hear them. Australia best kept musical secret. They wrote probably 15 songs commonly referred to as anthems here, yet they are almost unknown outside Australia. Thanks to reactors like you and dedicated fans referring reactors, they are becoming more well known and getting some belated recognition for the great band they are.
Great great Aussie band. Currently doing their 50 year anniversary tour. Went to USA. Got treated like shit. Told them to shove it and came home. Wrote “ you got nothing I want” about that. Songs Choir Girl, about a friend supporting a young girl while she has an abortion. When the war is over. Some people say it’s about returning from war, some say it’s above divorce. Breakfast at Sweethearts about cafe in Sydney red light zone during the 80’s. Jimmy Barnes is the singer who doesn’t play guitar. Listen to his daughter, Mahalia doing Riding with The Kings with the best guitarist in the world, Joe Bonamassa
Cold Chisel are, in my opinion, The Greatest Aussie band. I much prefer them over AC/DC. Barnsey and Mossy = top tier duo. Ian Moss is probably one of the most underrated guitarists you'll ever hear. Chisel are a daily playlist in this house ❤ You need to listen to When the War is over, from the same concert 🔥
I agree Mossy is underrated. I've heard people say Mark Knopfler is underrated, which is rubbish because his fame as a virtuoso is enormous. Mossy is not that well known outside of Australia, not like, say Tommy Emanuel who is quite well known outside of Oz.
Fancy seeing you here ❤ I agree....and the next video that was in the queue, was a great suggestion. It was the 1982 Rockapalast Germany concert that Chisel did. It's on regular rotation for me. The song Letter to Alan is sublime...but so is the whole concert nearly 2 hours long. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@kazz3956 yes I have that concert on my hard drive and also uploaded to the cloud. Most of my Jimmy stuff is on my Google drive so I can easily send people links to something if they want to download it! I also have Jimmy Barnes Rockpalast concert which is so good!

So, the lead singer on lead Guitar is Ian Moss (has his own solo career) and the other lead singer is Jimmy Barns (has his own solo career). Cold Chisel has been rocking Australian since the early 70's.
Welcome to the greatest Aussie pub band EVER.... Cold Chisel and Jimmy Barnes are Aussie icons... about to do a 50th yr anniversary tour 2024 around Australia and yep it's all sold out ❤❤ much love from Perth Western Australia
You can be a part of the crowd , they are doing a reunion tour starting at November this year 2024, we will be seeing them perform in Melbourne Australia, A reserve seating at Flemington Racecourse. Cant wait!

My favourite band, along with Led Zeppelin and Metallica. Their best songs are their ballads and they never get it wrong playing live. Two lead singers, multiple genres, all band members are songwriters, and they have Jimmy Barnes. Try "When the war is over" from the same concert.
Welcome to Australian music. The singer with the grit and distortion in his voice is Jimmy Barnes the lead guitarist and co lead singer is Ian Moss. Could you check out a song by Jimmy Barnes from his solo career. The song is Stone Cold by Jimmy Barnes featuring Joe Bonamassa. Joe is a legendary American blues guitarist. You will live this song.
Red discovers Cold Chisel.... another Aussie gem that I have been listening to since I was a young bloke. 😀Khe Sahn, Flame Trees and When the War is Over are definitely must listens. Then Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss with their solo careers, especially Jimmy with Stone Cold, Too Much Ain't Enough Love, and his collaboration with John Farnham with When Something Is Wrong With My Baby. As an Aussie, My favourite band of my youth, some other chisel songs, Flame Trees Khe Sahn, Shipping Steel, Breakfast at sweethearts, Choir Girl & many more, great times at the Local inn, Bondi Lifesaver, Ermington hotel, Stage door tavern, i could go on, I miss those days, thanks for that Red head & there is nothing better than a live performance by a Harmonica player.
As others have eluded to, it's not a rabbit hole to go down, it's a whole warren that will provide you with days & months of quality rock entertainment.
Great song by a great band. Do more and I promise I'll be your next sub. Strongly recommend either their cover of "wild thing" from their last stand concert, or for very different type of song, "when the war is over" from this same concert, the 2003 ringside tour.
The best!!! Blows away most others. Funny....... I live in New Zealand, they are Aussies and for me they are right up there with the best (Status Quo, the Stones etc)......... and I'm a Brit!!! Barnsie and the boys are the best IMO. Can't wait to catch up with Jimmy soon... hopefully.
So so so so so much more to check them out. Cold Chisel - truly the greatest Rock band you've never heard of. This legendary Australian rock band though having massive supporter base and being beloved for 50 years in Oz are known little outside these shores. Now you're in MY neighborhood !! There's a lot more Cold Chisel and solo Jimmy Barnes (the lead singer) to be discovered, along with a lot of other good Aussie bands that never got the overseas exposure they deserved. Definitely worth a look into - Dead Letter Circus, Grinspoon, Powderfinger, Silverchair, Crowded House etc. Cheers from Oz.
Don't stop now....there is a HUGE barrel of fun to be had with the enormous catalogue of Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss (and so many other stellar Australian musicians) Decades worth of material. I feel so lucky to have this as part of the soundtrack to my life.
Just went to their 50 year anniversary tour in Melbourne. Still have that same fire and stage presence with 2 hours of banging hits. Ian Moss the guitarist, so so underrated.
Actually the Guitarist Ian Moss on lead vocals on this one. Normally Jimmy Barnes, screaming there is the lead singer for Cold Chisel, his voice was suffering there, during that 2003 period, back in the day he could really hammer anything out smooth, it still sounds great though. Yeh Aussie Iconic Rock band, 😊
Check out Jimmy Barnes (the screaming co-singer here) and John Farnham singing, 'When Something Is Wrong With My Baby,' at the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Awards. Also, the lead singer-guitarist here, Ian Moss , who wrote 'Bow River', singing the beautiful American classic, 'Georgia'. Comedian-musician Tim Minchin has a message for you in 'Prejudice'. All are Australians and should always be watched and listened to , LIVE in CONCERT. Enjoy !
You will never go wrong listening to chisel or Jimmy Barnes solo. For another Australian band flying under the radar try The Tesky Brothers, “Hold me” (live at the forum) a good place to start. They did tour with Jimmy Barnes (chisel lead singer) you won’t be sorry.
When Chisel broke up in 1983, they were Australia's most popular band......much more popular than AC/DC , Bee Gees, Air Supply , Little River Band, Crowded House or any other band from Australia you might have heard about. When they reformed twenty years later in 2003, they were still Australia's most popular Rock or Pop band ever, lead singer Jimmie Barnes is still Australia's Rock Superstar and lead guitarist come 2nd lead singer, Ian Moss, is a living legend and still performing tv etc as well as music and singing. Every member of the band wrote more than one Classic Rock song or ballad.
Cold Chisel, legendary Aussie pub rock band, I never saw them live, but I did see Ian Moss (the guitarist singing the song), he was brilliant live, great voice and guitarist.
For more epicness of a similar vibe, check out "Jimmy Barnes - Good Times". Jimmy is the guy from Cold Chisel that was absolutely belting out in that song. It's great fun. He's singing with the band INXS, another amazing Aussie band worth checking out in their own right.
And down goes another yank down the Cold Chisel rabbit hole, Aussie pub rock at its best. Did you know INXS was cold chisels support band when they first started?
Cold Chisel is just a major taste of Australian artist, if Chisel will be your jump into the Aussie music Rabbit hole, then you are on a wonderful journey.
I really enjoyed this! It was upbeat, even with the bluesy sound. It reminds me of another band from maybe the 70’s-80’s. I’ll have to get back to you on that. Loved the look on your face when they first got started! Have a good day, Red 🎶 Cyd
@@redheadedneighbor Cold Chisel tried to crack it in the US market back in the late 70’s but were stuffed around by the US 🇺🇸 music company (can’t remember who it was at the time) so decided to come back home to Australia 🇦🇺 they released a song called You’ve got nothing I want. A big F you 🖕🏻to the US music company and became a smash hit with Jimmy Barnes as the lead vocals. The guy with guitar is Ian Moss as lead vocals in this song. The other vocalist is Jimmy Barnes. This is one band that has 2 vocalists.
I first saw Chisel play in 1975 and I have been a die hard fan ever since. They are always full steam ahead in their live performances. Chisel have a range of material from rock like this one, to some ballads and covers (they have a fantastic live version of Conway Twitty's "Only Make Believe"), thanks to all five members of their main line up writing songs that were hits (how many bands can say that?). For many, they are Australia's most iconic and greatest rock band. They have broken up and got back together a few times over the years and the remaining four members of their longest lived line up (a couple of original members left in their initial two years) are touring again this year. Chisel tried to make it in the US but got shafted by their record company and didn't go back. They began in 1973 as a heavy metal band playing covers and in the early days there were often fights between Jimmy Barnes (with the gravely voice) and other band members. The harmonica player, Dave Blight, was a regular addition to live performances. To see their variety, I suggest you take a look at the iconic "Khe Sanh" (about a Vietman vet and adopted by many as an unofficial national anthem) "Flame Trees", "Forever Now", "When The War Is Over", "Saturday Night", "Choir Girl" and "You Got Nothing I Want" (written as a response to their treatment by their record company in the US). PS For other great Australian bands, check out INXS and the very different glam rock of Sky Hooks.
@@Z4Zander Yes, we're all growing old. My favourite is the clip for "Women In Uniform". I remember walking to the beach ,listening to my transistor and hearing "Horror Movie" the day it was first played on radio. Those were the days.
HAAA GRITT! First thing that popped in my head!! Man be serving up some GRITTS Blues style!! The vocal partner could sing AC/DC if need be!! Never heard of these guys. Awesome!! Have you heard of Brother Cane and their awesome ditty called GOT NO SHAME?? Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
They are about to start their 50th Anniversary tour. If you want to react to Cold Chisel this concert was some of their best work. It's called the Ringside Concert because the stage is the old boxing ring. May I suggest you listen to When the War is Over from this concert. A very different mood and sound to Bow River
If you are overseas and the song Khe San is played you will immediately know if there are Australians there. A great band and Jimmy Barnes has also had a fantastic solo career.
Astrid Goodbye is my favourite. We used to cover it in my HellBilly band. Playing slapped double bass whilst trying to sing Jimmy's lead vocals used to leave me well out of breath. I probably wouldn't have a chance in hell these days.
ANGELS "After the rain" Australian, same same but DIFFERENT, another pub rock band like their lesser known Australian, Albert's records stablemate AC DC.
You need to grab yourself a cold chisel album. It will be full of bangers and they're much better in the audio versions then live, although watching or being present to a live chisel concert is always an experience.
Chisel have produced more albums since they broke up than before. Prolific hitmakers. They are about to begin their latest tour celebrating 50 years together and I have tickets to one of their Melbourne shows. They've sold more shows this tour in Australia than Taylor Swift. Huge
You have just found an amazing band and great songs with one of the best voices in the business. You're going fine some fantastic songs try and listen to their album East
Usual lead singer Jimmy Barnes (backup on this track) is probably the most famous/revered rock singer in Australia. Although some might prefer the voice of lead singer/guitarist on this track, Ian Moss. "Bow River" was allegedly written about a sheep station in the Northern Territory where Moss’s brother had once worked. Question mark for me though - there aren’t many sheep stations in the NT, which is mainly desert and tropical cattle country.
When Cold Chisel performed in Japan, they wondered why Jimmy was shouting at them? He is now sober and very talented. Try. Men At Work - Overkill The whole album is amazing.
Grest live performance, i hsve heard that one before but that's the only one of theirs i know. AC/DC, Cold Chisel. Must be time for a second sitting of Midnight Oil? Pretty please and all that.
There are a well known Australian band with Ian Moss on the guitar and Jimy Barnes with the grovelly voice Another known song by them is call ''When the war is over'' ua-cam.com/video/x4Wwq9_zn_c/v-deo.html
Oz's best rock band. Better than accadacca. They stayed true to themselves. They went to the US and were not happy with what the US promoters wanted them to do so they said FY and came back to OZ. They wrote a song about it called " You've Got Nothing I want , You've Got Nothing I need". Not recognised but one of the worlds great rock band.
For a true experience the original studio version is kick ass and the orignal live versions from the 80s is far superior, this is one of Australias greatest songs of all time , a story of the wild west of the 70s & 80s mining hardworking/drinking lifestyle. Chisel will go down as One of Australias Greatest Bands with The Angels and Austrailan Crawl of the 1980s absolute legendary all worthy of world class status but never made it.
Cold chisel were a australia rock band massive back in 70s and 80s..try angels too chain ..... midnight oil ..... ...Australia had a massive pub music scene back in the 70s and 80s before technology destroyed it ....
Iconic Aussie band and the quintessential pub rock band. Dr KAP has remastered a lot of their videos on her channel, so check more out on there for the best quality.
Here in Australia we have a crucible we called Pub Rock that forged some really great acts, if you could not hold the audience and draw a crowd you did not get work so you will find that all of the Australian bands are very tight and well practiced. Some of our bands went to America and got sent home as they were better than the act that they where there to support. This band all five members have written hit songs, though the vast majority came from Don Walker the Piano player
Chisel literally has dozens of absolute bangers of all kinds of genres. Truly a great band and perhaps Australia’s finest!
Not perhaps
Welcome to the wonderful world of underrated Australian music 🇦🇺

Such a great band, song and performance
Enjoy !
What a wonderful review. You have very good taste, Miss Redheadedneighbor.................................
They are from my hometown of Adelaide I saw them many times live when I was young.
They reformed in 1998 for their comeback album, The Last Wave of Summer.
Thank you so much! I had a blast with this one
G'day golden olden next time Jimmy barnes more of his colabs with Jonny Farnham Hi Red ❤❤❤❤❤
Please nooooooooo😢
@@MattLv5.6 if you dont like it mate you don't have to listen pleSe dont be so negative we all have opinions but respect is shared okay 👌
Sky Hooks. Now there's a name I haven't heard for a while. Most probably since all my friends were getting married.
Probably the most loved band we’ve ever had in Australia.. great music. Both Jimmy and Ian are still going around the traps performing.
If you are overseas and the song Khe San is played you will immediately know if there are Australians there. A great band and Jimmy Barnes has also had a fantastic solo career.
love the colour of your hair it makes your features stand out
Best Aussie band.
Astrid Goodbye is my favourite. We used to cover it in my HellBilly band. Playing slapped double bass whilst trying to sing Jimmy's lead vocals used to leave me well out of breath. I probably wouldn't have a chance in hell these days.
No better band then Chisel. Aussie legends 👏
Aussie rock banger. My youth revisited. So many great Aussie rock bands back then.
They're touring New Zealand early in 2025. I'm going. Grew up with this music and lived in Australia for over 30 years. Iconic Aussie pub band.
The most gorgeous you tuber ever! And she loves Cold Chisel!
Thank you!
@ you’re totally welcome! 😎
ANGELS "After the rain" Australian, same same but DIFFERENT, another pub rock band like their lesser known Australian, Albert's records stablemate AC DC.
Hey beautiful.......... Aussie music......yess!!
Cold Chisel’s version of Wild Thing is the best version ever. How Jimmy worked the crowd and Mossy’s guitar work is definitely a must see.
Cold Chise wild colonial boy i love that song and i like ita that's a good song
It was one of the first concerts I went to. They totally blow me away. My favorite was "Driving Wheels"
Australian bands just keep giving, so many more to chose from. Enjoy the journey!
You need to grab yourself a cold chisel album. It will be full of bangers and they're much better in the audio versions then live, although watching or being present to a live chisel concert is always an experience.
just make your whole channel about cold chisel ..........they're that good !
Try a listen to Goodbye Astrid, Shipping steel and Cheap wine. All great songs by Chis who I believe are right up there with AC/DC
If you liked that try Moving Pictures "What About Me"
Alex can sing !
I’m sorry but you cannot beat the studio version of this , I listen to this song 3 times a day everyday
Subscribed.
Thank you!
Try. Men At Work - Overkill
The whole album is amazing.
I know the bands name but couldn't name any of their songs. I wasn't expecting this though. This tune was great.
Listen to Flame Tree,s by cold chisel. Just as good as this. ❤💯👍EPIC! 🎉
They are having their 50 th anniversary tour in October and November Australia and New Zealand
The only things this lacks is my youth, and the smell of stale beer.
😂 and feet sticking to the carpet.
@@jutarzo Ahhh, I see you have been to Gobbles in Perth :D
Grest live performance, i hsve heard that one before but that's the only one of theirs i know. AC/DC, Cold Chisel. Must be time for a second sitting of Midnight Oil? Pretty please and all that.
Cold Chisel Fantastic, react to “Wild Thing live” Jimmy and Ian masterpieces
There are a well known Australian band with Ian Moss on the guitar and Jimy Barnes with the grovelly voice
Another known song by them is call
''When the war is over'' ua-cam.com/video/x4Wwq9_zn_c/v-deo.html
Oz's best rock band. Better than accadacca. They stayed true to themselves.
They went to the US and were not happy with what the US promoters wanted them to do
so they said FY and came back to OZ. They wrote a song about it called " You've Got Nothing I want , You've Got Nothing I need".
Not recognised but one of the worlds great rock band.
Breakfast at Sweethearts next please :D
For a true experience the original studio version is kick ass and the orignal live versions from the 80s is far superior, this is one of Australias greatest songs of all time , a story of the wild west of the 70s & 80s mining hardworking/drinking lifestyle. Chisel will go down as One of Australias Greatest Bands with The Angels and Austrailan Crawl of the 1980s absolute legendary all worthy of world class status but never made it.
Khe Sanh.. Cuts me up everytime.. But.. im an old bloke i guess.Cold Chisel are amazing IMO
Yeah, always disbelief when you hear Cold Chisel..."Chisel"... for the first time !!!
Cold chisel were a australia rock band massive back in 70s and 80s..try angels too chain ..... midnight oil .....
...Australia had a massive pub music scene back in the 70s and 80s before technology destroyed it ....
Next songs to make your head explode:
Wild Thing - live
Georgia - live
Cheap wine
You're welcome 😅
Iconic Aussie band and the quintessential pub rock band.
Dr KAP has remastered a lot of their videos on her channel, so check more out on there for the best quality.
Here in Australia we have a crucible we called Pub Rock that forged some really great acts, if you could not hold the audience and draw a crowd you did not get work so you will find that all of the Australian bands are very tight and well practiced. Some of our bands went to America and got sent home as they were better than the act that they where there to support. This band all five members have written hit songs, though the vast majority came from Don Walker the Piano player
Another you might really like are ,Spy v spy ,look for a song called ,Don't tear it down .
