She killed this man. Andra Day is pretty underrated vocally happy to see her outside performing again from the superbowl now to this
Our shows are more important than ever. Black entertainers should make their appearances
This song is so sad because the woman who originally sang this Minnie Riperton had cancer and knew she was going to die. This was one of her last songs before she passed away. Audra Day was the perfect person to sing this song too. Beautiful voice.
I was thinking about the same thing. When she passed I was at NCA&T and everybody was devastated.
It is very sad. That cancer diagnosis came out of nowhere. 😢 She once said that she never wanted to leave her babies. 😢
It still hits home, God bless you❤
So sad. Minnie will never be forgotten!
@@honeynation I know how she felt for I am a Cancer survivor.
Andra Day performed a beautiful tribute to those we have lost, and her rendition of Memory Lane was absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing ❤🙏🏽
I didn't realize her range with this full... get it Andra!!!
Her voice is so beautiful ❤
Can I just say-ANDRA DAY! Yassssssss queen-killed it!
Very underrated! Very talented, distinguished voice! Beautiful tribute...
I may be wrong but I think they missed Irish Griendstead from 702 she was apart of my childhood and my favorite group 🥰
This is a pretty and unique rendition. Andra also sang the Black National Anthem during the Super Bowl and I love the exposure she’s been getting again
Andra sounded beautiful her and made it her own and I wish they had Included Irish from 702 in the lineup
So many pioneering legends have gone in just one year. Thank you, BET for this Memorium. We must keep our history of contribution to modern civilization alive.
What contribution? Murderers of white people?
Thank you NAACP & Andra!
“MARLENA⭐️SHAW!” MYMOMMA!🙏❤️🩹🎵
Miss you M🖤M!
Beautiful tribute 🙏🏾🙏🏾🕊️
Spectacular performance, beautiful tribute
I always get a bit teary-eyed seeing the in memoriams.
Love her falsetto and vibrato
Being there live hearing her sing this yesterday was exceptional. This video is good, yet in person.... The performance was fantabulous.
Her voice is like heaven in I love that song in the way she sang it if Minnie was still here I know she would be proud RIP Minnie
Thank you NAACP for honoring the memory of the great reggae musician Ashton Barrett. One Love.🇯🇲🇺🇲💚🖤💛
She sang that ❤
Beautifully done ❤️🙏🏾 Oscars have a lot to learn.
Live the CONTROL in moving from head to falsetto… wow that mix. Masterful. Mama showin out this year!
I love her voice, her range❤
Audra sounded so nice singing this song😊
It's a very brilliant performance!!
Love the way Andra Day sung the Minnie Riperton classic. 💕 🎶
ANGELIC
Wow, beautiful tribute...
Oh wow...we share the same name Andra....💯✌🏿
This song is hard to replicate. Nice tribute. There is no justice for the song.
Finally, a very well known program picked one of my favorite songs from Minnie Riperton. I'm honored it was NAACP & thrilled they chose Andra Day to sing her song to pay our fellow heroes in entertainment farewell.
🎭🎤📺🎼🎬🎵📽🎙🎧🎶😃💞👍🏾
Wow!! Andra Day u kill this song!!! I just want this song to just keep playing in My ears! So sweet So sweet!! Your voice is unique!! Blessings::💯🥳💝

Amazing voice & heartfelt ❤ 🙏🏽

Absolutely outstanding ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Beautiful voice😊 lovely tribute 🌟 Perfect 👌 🌟 Per
Thank you NAACP for honoring the memory of the wonderful man Joseph "AMP" Fiddler I will love him forever ❤️😢
REST IN ETERNAL PARADISE TO ALL THE BEAUTIFUL SOULS!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🤎🤎🤎
It's hard to do Minnie riperton but she did well
She did a fantasmo job with this song !!! What would one expect from a protege' of Stevie Wonder. I didn't know Mr. Wayne Shorter and Spike Lee;s daddy died. R.I.P. to all indeed QUEENS $ KINGS.
Beautiful ❤
Keep it classy and respectful BET
Yes 🙌🏾 Beautiful voice.
LOVELY🎉🎉
How is rhis the first time I'm hearing of her smh. I love her
Wonderful just wonderful.
Just Beautiful ❤️
She did a phenomenal job!!
Beautiful… ❤
Audra Day is an amazing singer and actress!!!!
If you know singing youll know she did amazing.
passing the baton to the future "You" ..something to consider
Well done Andra Day 👍🏾
Good performance
She did a wonderful job ❤. Better than the Superbowl. No shade. Just my opinion
Yeah, that Superbowl performance was not good, at all.
This award show for blacks is way more important that any white American award show ...
Start to appreciate how you can be recognized and appreciated by your own which should matter more than anything
😂 Well keep that same energy towards you. I mean you guys did honor a double murderer. Is that the "black excellence" we keep hearing about?
Rest in Peace to my friend, sister, hero Hydeia Broadbent 😢 🕊️
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ ❤❤❤
Love that song but not feeling her rendention of it, the original all day long❤
Thank you..
Not to especially comment on who is or who is not the NAACP Image Awards "In Memoriam" this year. Some people that are not black or white so it seems would be alright for "In Memoriam" would be Pete Rodriguez,Chita Rivera, Robbie Robertson, and Bob Barker,to name a few.
I appreciate you, but these awards honor black Americans or those who uplifted our black community. Please let us have something of our own.
I wish they slowed it down. The tempo was way too fast.
I think the creator or curator of this segment is older, because Irish from 702 was missed, because they may not even know who she is because she's not in their age range 😢
Chante Moore would have tore this up.
The song I was talking about is by Minnie Riperton "Back Down Memory Lane"
I thought that Janice Burgess, the woman that did the whole Backyardigans children's TV series and Hydeia Broadbent should have been included in the list.
❤🔥😍
Who else only knew of Tina 😅❤❤😢
They missed on Hydeia Broadbent...maybe next year
She passed after this show
🎉
Imo , Andra is a lovely singer, but this was not the song for her. Chante Moore would have done Minnie Riperton very well. Don't yall come for me, ijs
I totally agree.
Exactly what I said. Love Andra down but Chante would’ve been perfect choice.
I was saying the same thing. Chante Moore would have been a better fit or Shanice.
So true she didn't hit those notes
I 💯% agree with you! 👏🏾
Guess Chante wasn't considered. 🤷🏾🤔🤨😒
They forgot Mandisa
Wayne Shorter was Composer/Jazz Saxophonist… who did these name titles🙄
I’m a just be honest. She struggled through this song.. it was very difficult for her to give the song the depth and emotion it deserved.. She was ok.. nothing Special.. too fast for Andra.. her the band were not in sync.. But she’s still fantastic! I would love to hear her with Robert Glasper.
Yes. Every song is not for every singer. It was a nice try though.
Can anyone tell me what style of singing she does. Sincere asking.
Why must she be categorized?
@1RosalindBest R&B/Soul
🙏🏼🙏🏼🤲🏽🤲🏽❤❤✊🏽✊🏽💐💐
I like Audra Day but i think Chante Moore shouldve sang this song her high pitch wouldve been perfect.IMO🤷
3:20 🥹❤️👑
Why is Bobby Caldwell in the tribute pictures. lol
Right , but honestly the soul he sang with had a lot of us fooled about who sang his songs, he sounded black 😂
Day looks like Rihanna 🧐🤔😏😎
I’m tired of not seeing CHINO XL on these in memoriam segments so far.
No mention of slick Rick
....SHE IZ ALL! OH! VER! DA! PLACE!....THE TIME SHE TOOK OFF FROM MAKING ANOTHER ALBUM?... SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE TIME FOR HER TO CONTINUE VOICE LESSONS!....🤐
Her voice is so powerful they're always trying to tone her down. Obviously you've never heard her sing 'Rise Up' from the movie Selma. Stop hating.
Audra sounds a mess. Her vocals wasn’t strong enough to sing this song.
wow so out of her range they should have gotten Chante Moore or Deniece Williams to sing this..
So many of our activist are gone
She is no Minnie Rippleton.
Why be so negative.
No one is!
@@gecarlowood3412 I am not being negative, I am being truthful. I had just finished Morgan State University May 20, 1979 when this song came out. Therefore, I stand by my original comment.
We are always negative don’t matter what it is smh wow now I see why we still where we are smh
@@daddygrace253 I agree with you. Not that she can't sing as good as Minnie but she rift too much and changed the style of the song which did not need any changing.
She doesn't have the voice for this particular song.
Voice terrible and where was the 702 member pic at
It was on there. That's the only thing u noticed
She has a great voice but sometimes she tries to do too much rifting and it can kill the song. Don't kill me just my opinion.
I agree. The message and tone of the song was lost. While her voice is lovely, it sounded like she was too focused on showcasing her skills. This is my opinion.
OK good so they removed O.J. Simpson
This was the NAACP Image Awards from a few months ago, at that OJ Simpson was still alive
This was a really shitty song though
That's because you have know taste of music
It's a beautiful song. They selected the wrong singer to bring out Its beauty. Day is an incredible singer, but they should have chosen Chantel Moore for this song because she has the range and the vocal style of the original artist.
No, it was not. Apparently, you didn't realize this was a tribute to those we lost. When someone passes, the singers don't usually sing an R&B song in the same style that it was recorded in because they are singing it on a more spiritual level. That's something you apparently are not able to comprehend.
The original is a great song. She did not do a good job with it.
She did a terrible job!
Beautiful 💗
