I bought the game, never played it and today I randomly thought about the game and decided to try it out. I went on youtube and bam, there's your video! lol perfect!
I have hundreds of hours into this game and on surface i didn’t think it was that complicated until later on and it’s so complex and the DLCS add to that but make it very fun. Current play through I’m a slave master colony that raids neighbors take slaves and any time they rebel we take eyes to sell 😂😂
A few things; 1. You can disable automatic home-zoning in vanilla with the house icon in the bottom right. Pretty much always have it off after the first couple days. 2. Home zone also dictates where they will put out fires. So if you see a large first about to take out a large amount of trees or plants you wanted to use or something, you can put them in your home area temporarily and your fire fighters will go put the fires out
I tried playing once and all the colonists died because I literally thought the game was automatic. I thought I was just supposed to watch them do their thing.
I'd argue Pheobe is the most dangerous. She doesn't just throw non-dangerous stuff at you. Her events can be just as dangerous, she just gives you more time between them. You get complacent and then oops, you're dead.
@@yoruichixx6951lol those are great when they’re not on your world tile. The toxic so we’re:sunlight blocker is usually in a walled building you can just destroy the wall enter the complex destroy the thing and leave without even waking the mechs up
You trying to pronounce Phoebe had me laughing. I guess we have here a super rare case of someone who didn't watch Friends. Anyway, I'm watching your video despite never having played this or wanted to, just to see if I can get hooked on it after see what it has to offer.
For a new player, definitely start somewhere where A/ you can grow all year round B/ you have plenty of trees and animals to hunt. I am a more advanced player (with all the DLC) and my favourite map type is Arid dryland (It just really clicks for me). Some people really love Boreal Forrest and others really love Mountains. It's a good idea to just learn as much as you can. You'll soon discover that leaving batteries out in the rain without a roof over them is a terrible idea, and many things like that.
dying laughing at the phoebe bit. i never understood why it was spelled that way and would totally struggle to pronounce it too if i didn't already know it
phoebe is really ok if dont like raids too much and just want to do base expansion and management, tho phoebe can sometimes randomly throw you something big out of nowhere Pretty much she never throws anything significative most of the time, but when she does it is always something big
I think I overplan too much too early, too many crops per need, too much space, rushing, i just approach this game as fast paced and i think i might be going wrong and need to micro more. Also its annoying to lose something i bought because no one wants to haul and then i just have stuff rotting outside
For beginners, your gut instinct is actually likely good for settings, as some people like a challenge and are comfortable fucking up on test runs anyways. You do wanna begin in a temperate fores however, and you want marble and granite if possible. I currently just have the ideology dlc, but I found that starting with it enabled was perfectly fine, while it's an extra system to learn its both intuitive and relatively optional if you just pick the preset that makes your pawns (characters) act like classic rimworld characters, unless you wanna focus on that system.
litterally have 300 hours and i still barely know anything this video would of been helpful because i only chose randy random and i still do and i refuse to stop also i went straight to mods there's nothing like the power of having the ability to send 50 max skill full burning passion geared out death squads to random tribal settlements anyway only now just trying out the base game so this should be fun
@@agecali7893 nah Randy's funny i mean the concept of him rewarding you for killing all the refugees by organ harvesting with more refugees but punishing you because you wanted to harvest your crops is funny
selecting commitment because that's your way is wrong. for newbies to have a better grasp, you should off the bat selected randy on community builder, THEN reload ANYTIME.
Mhhm, i dont agree with the "go easy" for the first playthrough. Yes, you do learn about the game and probably get really bad and messed up habits, cos it just worked. Im not sayin go for the easiest start, but challange yourself, learn to fail, learn to adjust and after a while, learn to overcome the obstacles. Feel free to use loading to try different approaches.
I think it's more important to just learn about the game when you're new. Don't worry about playing strictly. Even save scum if you need to because rebuilding colonies over and over will take you forever to learn the game
New player, I notice rimworld youtubers having just dump zones in their bases instead of shelves. I have all my shit on shelves whats the benefit of just having all the gear on the floor?? I changed the icons for supplies in stock which helped me alot due to having less info on the screen its all summarized into categories about 6 or 7. dope game.
There's nothing wrong with skill decay as long as you focus skills for pawns only if they have burning passion (fire symbol next to skill) The only skill that decay really takes a toll on is social because social is the hardest skill to train imo
Tldr Skill decay doesn't really matter all that much. Mods will fix this if you care. Skill decay only starts at lvl 10. At a maxed out skill, you lose 3600 skill experience a day. It takes around 8 days to lose 1 lvl if you don't train the skill at all. If you have a pawn with a high skill lvl, chances are that pawn does that activity every single day and will never lose a skill lvl.
The Storyteller that's holding the animal is in no way peaceful, it's more of a turtle experience yes events don't happen often but when they do happen they are big events, so where you would normally only get 1 Raider every 6 months you would get six Raiders every year
I bought the game last Christmas and tried playing immediately but, alas my tv has the wrong ratio so all the instructions and info were off screen. I've gotten past it now, but it took me 3 months to actually start playing. When I chose my characters two out of three were incapable of violence, and they got married.
Then, after a year, after we expanded our colony to 7 people, did one of them die. Along with one other dying and another being kidnapped. The death of the other set another pawn, who was unrelated but also incapable of violence, to set free a prisoner and murder yet another pawn. And the kidnapped one died I think because I looked at a pawns mood it said rival mans died, everyone hated her cause she was ugly and had creepy breathing. And this is my favorite game
I had a similar problem on a different game. My TV is a older Sony bravia and I found a setting called "Full Pixel ", no more things disappearing off screen.
The worst part about this video is the comment section full of clowns outraged over someone not knowing how to pronounce a name with strange spelling. Not everyone has watched some basic Beckie ass show from the past. "WaT u NeVr ThEeN fWeNdS" 🥴 The video was very helpful. As a new player it was all overwhelming and sort confusing so this was helpful and gave me some sense of direction what to actually do and how to do it. Thanks!
Oh man, advising new players to play on commitment mode is a big no no, that mode is for experienced players only, players who know how to play the game and are fully prepared for the consequences. You admitted that you hadn't played the game for a full year, and that is obvious as there have been so many tweaks and changes to the game since you last played. You should have, at the very least, read all of the patch notes before attempting to teach new players about a game that you haven't played in a while. I do applaud your intent, but sadly, you fell down with the implementation, particularly as you killed a bonded animal offscreen, and why are you playing in development mode? A new player will compare your screen to theirs and wonder why it is different. The space bar has always been the default pause button in Rimworld, unless you change it yourself. Please re-learn the game yourself before trying to teach others, and slow down with your explanations, as I feel you are trying to give new players more information than they actually need. My personal recommendation, for you and new players alike, is to play the tutorial, it does a pretty good job of introducing new players to the game.
