Big chassis all well built, great engine too! Heavy is good, it’ll be around a long time.
Lovely car, and MUCH quicker than mentioned. It was the 1.5 that could do 75(+). The 2.5 was within a whisker of the magic "ton". Until the Jag mk2 came along it was the fastest British production saloon.
US specs are on the conservative side, so that's how we listed it. The owners have not driven it at speed on the freeways here in SoCal, either!
The car is in great shape! Doesn't show its age at all. Owners are very proud of it.
Thanks for watching and commenting. We love to hear from other enthusiasts.
The kind comment from Metal Man took me back to this clip, and to your comment. I have the Brooklands Books compilation of road tests from the time. The Autocar test from 18 April 1947 records no top speed, in accordance with their usual practice with the post-WW II restrictions in place. A slightly later test in the Motor recorded 94.8 mph on the fuel of the time. Subsequent tests from them showed maxima of between 90 and 95 mph. Very creditable indeed at the time.
A great looking car, but the looks were those of 1936, not 1946 when it appeared. Both models were overweight as well. That roof's not an original colour, surely.
Thank you for being observant. We didn't talk to the owners about color, etc.
Oh shut up , the is wonderful in every way full credit to the owner I say 👏
Typical back seat driver.
Haven't come across another Riley like this. A fun ride!
