Chris Simms' 2021 NFL Draft Wide Receiver Rankings | Chris Simms Unbuttoned Ep. 251 (FULL)
/ nbcsports - Спорт
I just rewatched Waddle and Chase, Smith, Brown highlights and I have NO idea how he thinks they have more top speed then Waddle. It isn't even really close the other 3 are fast but Waddle is on another level of speed. Period.
Game speed yes Waddle is the fastest but those guys are on go throughout the game they just look different when u watch
Dude said Rondale lost his explosiveness
Rondale pro day numbers
40 4.29
Shuttle 6.6 (craziest thing I’ve seen)
Vert 42.5 inches (at 5 7 lol)
Facts
@@andrewbradley3305 almost identical to Tyreek. Does he track the ball like a cheetah though remains to be seen
@@dereksmidl8352 Those are pro day times though so you gotta adjust up. Hand timed not laser timed. Rondale on tape is not as fast as tyreek hill but is as quick. Almost impossible for someone 5 7 flat to be able to long stride and open up as fast as tyreek hill.
I love that Simms is incapable of not cursing during a podcast...lol
Yeah.....like "he runs like he's got rockets up his ass." 😆🤣😂
He grew up in Jersey, what do you expect.
When's my man Simms gonna drop the top five long snappers in the draft?
Appreciate that Simms shows last years picks!
Bateman is an absolute stud!!
Thanks Chris - love the show
Did he just say Waddle would run a MID 4.4?! Bro he’s gonna run a 4.35 or better
or you know, not run at all lol
Super fast wide recievers that are overhyped usually disappont

I respect Simms but I think he is underrating how fast Waddle is and Bateman did play outside in 2019
Facts. Waddle not running a 4.45 he’s a 4.4 flat.
Bateman is an elite route runner. Wtf is he smoking
Most NFL receivers run that fast.
@@bradybuschur5995 Even faster...prob a low 4.3
I'm convinced he actually got the Alabama WR's mixed up. Waddle apparently ran at Alabama and went right after Henry Ruggs and they both ran 4.27. Conversely, people expect DeVonta Smith to run in the low 4.5's.
Thank you Washington! We got two number 1recievers Terry Mclaurin Dyami Brown 💨💨💨🔥🔥🔥
Waddle is definitely the fastest guy in your top 5
the funny thing is limping he was uncoverable by OSU
i'm not sure if top speed he is the fastest, but he definitely has the best acceleration of anyone. Which is often what matters
@@EB-bl6cc No he's the fastest for sure. He was Alabama's deep threat before he got injured. Idk where Simms is getting the idea that Waddle lacks straight line speed because he can run a legit 4.28!
Chris Simms. Draft prospects goat.
No lol I'll give him QBs but he is off on every other skill position. And forget defense.
He nailed Claypool! Other than that I'll have to agree
Dude has eskridge over Bateman....
@@ollieness1 He was also right about Okudah
He was saying Jefferson is a better version of Jeudy
I respect Simms as an evaluator but the fact that Elijah Moore wasnt on this list (not even in the honorable mentions) is criminal
True. No matter how accurate an analyst’s takes are there’s always gonna be misses here n there. Looking back at this vid in hindsight, I’m surprised Elijah Moore wasn’t at least an HM. There’s been a ton of positive talk surrounding Moore so far this offseason and if a player is really that good, he’ll be good right from the beginning. He could be the next great slot receiver of the league
Facts
TF is Elijah Moore
Chase put up an amazing 23 reps on the bench press. Not a big WR metric, but very impressive.
Chris you gained my respect with your analysis last year when you were one of a few in the business that had Jefferson as a top WR. You nailed it. Little did we know he would break Moss rookie record.
Wow his last years receiver rankings look elite rn
Hamler and Ruggs as top4 is...yikes
I had Lamb 1 , Jeudy 2 (not looking great but with better QBs play he ll improve), Jefferson 3 , Ruggs 4 (yikes) , Aiyuk 5 , Higgins 6 , Reagor 7(yikes) , Mims 8 , Pittman 9 and Shenault 10 and Tyler Johnson 11(steal of the draft)
Not really, Hamler and Ruggs underperformed, Juedy Claypool Davis all played better. Jefferson was also way ahead of CD Lamb
@@dd-tm6zp that’s a good list
@@cavanimo1137 Lamb only had his starting QB for 4 1/2 games AND he was the #3 WR in Dallas. Just wait. Cee Dee is coming.......

The NFL Network or ESPN should hire Simms away to be one of their top NFL/NFL Draft analyst. He's VERY good. I always feel far more informed after watching Simms break down a player. As well, Ahmed is knowledgeable, bright, on-point, and excellent at engaging the talent without getting in the way. Both are impressive.
Simms is the real deal. They can cut Kiper and Peter King and replace them both with Simms.. Dude can evaluate and analyse . He's balanced in his analysis and he keeps it real. He just can curse in those space but I think both networks need a bit of that lol
Simms is my guy but something aint adding up with waddle: he says 'he doesnt have straight line speed' despite everyone else saying he has ridiculous, 4.3 type speed....also, what does straight line speed matter when henry ruggs had it and it didnt matter
Ruggs was pretty good though? He just played injured for some games and Carr doesnt favor getting players the ball deep. Its why Waller and Renfrow get so much volume
RIP to the guy in the safety vest in the background 💀💀😂🤣

This video has some great points on it.
Stats can sometimes be VERY misleading, especially if you don't watch film.
QB, OT, DE & DB are probably the hardest positions to evaluate, IMO. WR used to be one also but in the last few years, it seems WRs are readily available & many have great abilities and techniques that they've learned in college.
Isn’t waddle the one who raced ruggs? If he can beat Ruggs or even make it a photo finish then he’s gamebreaking level of speed. Granted those things don’t always translate to football playmaking ability but his speed should never be questioned
Pretty sure the idea Waddle isn’t as fast as Dyami, Devonta and Chase in a straight line is pretty insane. I love Simms but man I just don’t see it.
Nah waddles the fastest and best pure separater
@@rohan5383 that’s literally what I’m saying. Simms said Waddle wasn’t that fast in a straight line.
I mean, he’s definitely faster than Chase, idk who Dyami is, and Smith wouldve ran in 4.3’s if not for him skipping the pro day
Simms is wrong about a lot of things. This is one of them.
Marshall is the third best, possibly second best receiver in this draft.
Really he should have put Pitts on this ranking. Pitts is a WR in the NFL.

I'm gonna have to STRONGLY disagree that devonta Smith is faster than Jaylen Waddle
Best pundit out there. No groupthink, just his own assessment and reasoning which is a nice change
I like that about Simms, but looking at some highlights it doesn't look like Brown is faster than Waddle. Both are fast, but I saw Brown getting caught where waddle was straight outrunning people.
Yea it’s just sad because he obviously doesn’t not have the time to scout these players full time and still watch all the tape at all the posistions only when draft time comes around. He spends like a week or two on each group. That’s laughable. This is a full time job and the confidence with which he says some obviously wrong things are impressive however this is just a fans opinion. Simms is no scout
Brown faster then waddle
Rondale lost his explosiveness
Bateman doesn’t play outside and isn’t a top level route runner.
How can anyone say these things whos watched the tape
I wonder how many GM's watch and take note of Chris SImms' rankings. They're probably too arrogant to do it but I think Chris has proven that he knows his stuff better than most.

Love the Dyami Brown take. I saw the same thing on tape. Chris Simms is the best in the biz at this.
I saw Eskridge in the senior bowl and nobody could cover him.
Dyami Brown is definitely a top receiver in this draft. I only see him struggling against really good corners.
No Rashad Bateman? Dy'ami Brown is good but his route running might be questionable because they only asked him to run go routes.
He said that Bateman is a 3rd or 4th rd guy
I have him as the 12th best player in the draft and the 3rd best WR behind Chase and Smith

I wonder what he thinks of Rondale Moore and Jaleon Darden. Two guys 5’9” at like 180 190. I think both are more dynamic than Toney
Nobody has that one cut and go ability like toney in the draft. Darden is the closest but he makes so many cuts he’s gonna get caught from behind.
Rondale is 5'7 no ? And he talks about Him in the end of the podcast.
He said too Many injuries to get picked in the 2 first rounds.
The G.O.A.T. WR of all time reportedly ran over 4.5. Speed is important but not everything. I think Chris is spot on.
Rashod Bateman will be the best WR in this draft class. If he had gone to Alabama or LSU, he would be a top 10 pick.
The Packers drafting Kadarius Toney... my reaction would be: Gutekunst, have my children.
Chris Simms rankings are law... but theres reports jaylen waddle beat Ruggs in a race
Not true. Waddle himself said Ruggs beat him by one step.

When they talk about Lamb v Jefferson don't forget surroundings when it comes to what they did their first year in the NFL.
True Vikings were a run first team and the cowboys spent most of the season getting garbage time yards because they were always behind big.
@@GL-ys8je True but I think Vikings was one of the teams with the most big time pass plays. Very little dink and dunk. Cowboys has two guys besides Lamb competing for targets, Vikes has one. Cousins was healthy and played the whole season, Lamb had Dak for barely 4 games and then Dalton and some backups I can't even remember the name of.
On last year’s ranking why give Hamler a break for QB play but not Jeudy? They had the same Qbs!? Both had drop issues but I think it’s still too early to give final grades on last years draft class
Huh, those were his grades at this time last year. I think they went to different schools...
I agree with the list
Waddle not being fast is the coldest of cold takes haha
...hopefully with a trade down to select a franchise LT like the Notre Dame kid. Both players deserve to be selected around pick 45
Looking back and still dont understand how Simms only real argument to rank Dyami Brown 3rd was speed and Waddle and Toney were and are much faster than him and better at everything else too
Absolutely insane about Waddle's speed
Really good, the only major point is that waddle is definitely the fastest WR in the top 5
Not the best though that belongs to Chase... And speed is a lot but it isn’t everything... he as in waddle needs to work on his route running in my opinion
I wanted to hear his opinion on rondale more and Rashod Bateman and they both weren't in the top 6
They’re at the end check the description
Jaelon darden also
I agree about Bateman. When I first watched him I was not impressed. After watching more videos I became more impressed but I don't rate him like other people do. Some fans has him as their number 1 receiver.
As an Eagles fan, I’m so thankful that Simms isn’t the GM of the Giants 😂

I believe Waddle was WR1 on the depth chart over smith before he got injured
Ever sense he said Toney I thought oh' then the his top 3 is Bateman Smith Chase
Devonta Smith is by far my #1 wr.
Waddle for me is the best
@@karim9117 Look at the career stats for Waddle and Smith and the rest of the Alabama receivers from last year's draft and where does Waddle and Smith rank in terms of receptions, yardage, and touchdowns. You will see that Smith outperformed all of them. That's because he is more than fast enough, he gets open more, and he doesn't drop passes as often as the others. That translate better to the NFL than speed. Ask Ruggs and Jeudy.
Davonta Smith said himself that Waddle probably would have won the Heisman if he didnt get injured. Waddle has world class speed. Its ok we got him back with his QB. Now I do believe Chase and Smith will definitely be successful. I would have been happy if we picked Smith. We will see who the number one is this year!

Chris is great. The Best.
His eval on waddle as an inside guy might be spot on. However, he is off on Waddle's speed. Waddle is a flyer. Waddle is the only guy at UA who could run with Ruggs stride for stride.

Jaylen Waddle is faster than Devonta Smith and during the 2020 season Jaylen Waddle was the #1 WR at Alabama before he got hurt. Why doesn’t Chris Simms know this?
It's true. I went bidet in 2016 and never went back. I even bought them for my families toilets so I could use when I was there.
Toney 💪🏻
Simms' track record speaks for itself, but I think he's got DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle mixed up. Waddle is the one that HAS the speed, and could be the fastest guy in the entire draft class. He has a 4.27 on record at Alabama. Meanwhile, DeVonta Smith is actually lauded for his pristine route running, IQ, and ability to make contested catches, but he's expected to run in the low 4.5 or high 4.4 range.
Tylan Wallace????
I put a lot of value in what Simms says but Waddle not being as fast as the top 3 and 1:19:22 didn’t age well
What he ranks and then what teams do is different. Also, he thinks the coach is running the team. GMs run the league these days.
