    I just put 1/4” galvanized steel mesh (hardware cloth) over the tops of the gutters. One side under the shingles the other screwed to the edge of the gutter. Leaves don’t collect on top, drainage isn’t restricted, and any little debris that gets through the 1/4” mesh won’t clog the downspout and gets washed away. Cost of materials for my 2600 sq. ft. 6 bdrm home was $175. Cheap and effective.

      This seems to take a lot more skill and time to do, but very cost-effective for an entire full house. This would be great for a house fully surrounded by trees, otherwise it seems to be a bit of overkill :)

      @@CinDy-hw7fg I agree. The type of gutter protection that will work best depends totally on each home’s situation. Homes with no trees, foliage etc. nearby don’t need it. Some homes have one giant tree that dumps leaves and other debris on the roof that clogs the gutters. Other homes may have a number of medium sized trees that surround the home that cause problems. Every home is different you have to be smart and choose what works best for you.

    Yeah I like this idea, twice a year I blow mine out with an EGO blower with the EGO attachment for gutters. I will add these especially for the drain opening as you have done here.

    Never saw these before, they look like a great solution. I've also tried various covers but with varying success.
    My issue is, my neighbor has a huge pine tree at the edge of his property that rains down long needles on my garage roof which mixed with regular leaves constantly clog my downspouts all fall. I've cut back the branches as much as I can that go over my side of the property, but the tree is so tall there's nothing I can do to stop the wind from blowing needles from the top half of the tree onto my roof. I go on the roof weekly all fall with my leaf blower to clear off the roof and the gutters, but short of cutting down the tree, nothing really helps.
    I have a feeling that the needles will just get all stuck in between these but I'll give them a shot anyway.

    It seems to me that leaves may not get into the downspout, but they would end up laying over the top of the gutter guard and causing the rain to flow over the gutter and down to the ground.

      incorrect... there are a couple of leaves but not a mat of them. I had these there for the entire fall and never was water washing over the gutter. Also, the brush is not extended throughout the entire gutter. Just that small section.

    This needs to be installed the entire length of the gutter.

    It looks the same concept as a foam

    • @flannelguydiy6458
      @flannelguydiy6458  Рік тому +2

      It is SIMILAR, but here is what I do not like about the foam. First, the foam is in the shape of a triangle and the leaves can actually get passed it and down into your downspout. This means, you would need to use the foam for the entire length of your gutter. Also, the foam is more likely to turn into a solid block of ice in the winter.

      Does sun degrade the foam after some years?
