Same here....It started two months ago with a hissing sound. At first I was hopeless and really afraid and sad...I thought it was "chasing me" no matter what I did. The key to get much, much better is exactly what you´re saying here: At first, don´t panic. It requires a time, and its different for each one. Then, when you feel brave enough, try to listen listen to it and when you do it, breath be good to yourself and say to your central nervous system, your spirit and your brain (which, for me are kind of the same thing) that everything will be better, accept it and "embrace" it. Repeat to yourself: I´m not in danger, I´m fine. Take at least five deep, deep breaths, with the help of a background of nature sounds (the sound of a river works for me) or an open window or what is said in this video, a simple fan, nothing too loud. It will eventually back off. I can tell you: it will back off! Maybe it´ll appear again at some point, but don´t panic. It´s just something in your body telling you that you must take over, that you must do some changes in your lifestyle. Stay away from negative forums and people sending negative messages. Other things that have worked for me: Body based therapies or disciplines, yoga, swimming pools for gentle swimming, some Tai Chi, and meditation with mantras (you cand easily find them here in UA-cam) and two sessions of craneo- sacral therapy. Suplements: gingko biloba, magnesium, tomato juice, lots of ginger and Vitamin B (B1, B6 and B12 together). For pills and that kind of stuff, I´m not a doctor, but maybe they can help you at the beginning with the right guidance of a professional. Food: I´ve reduced salt, caffeine and sugar in 80% Environment: try to put yourself in safe, warm, cozy and nice environments. Possitive emotions, laughing or hearing someone else´s laugh. Caring friends, love and speaking out to the right people do "miracles", don´t suffer in silence. Retake your hobbies or things that you enjoy. Good music is great for finding releaf. Dinners with friends, entertaining yourself. Massages: again, here in UA-cam there are many, many tutorials teaching you how to massage yourself to relief your Tinnitus. Find the right one and go for it. Believe me: it backs off, it gets better. It´s not from one day to another, but you´re going to be fine. Lots of love to everybody.

I've had the exact same thing happen to me. It started on the back of a huge panic attack. Stuck around for about 5 months until I finally thought f**k it and stopped fighting. Went on holiday and it all began to change. Over the next couple of months i thought less and less about it. From a huge monster in my head it turned into a minor annoyance and then nothing. Occasionally I hear it for an hour or two but 99% of the time it's not on my mind. I'm completely back to normal life.
My one tip is don't read youtube comments or go on forums. You shouldnt even be reading this. Lucky for you im not spreading more fear!
The vast majority people posting are the ones suffering and they will inadvertently make you suffer with them. Once you recover do what this guy has done and post a success video or leave a positive comment.
Most people once it's over for them return to normal life and don't think to go back and tell.other people that they are out of the dark times.
This guy randomly appeared in my youtube suggestions and reminded me of the pain I felt soni felt duty bound to come back and leave my story.
    Good luck

Hi David, I find your video gives me hope and something positive to think about. Like you, I was sick (and stressed) with a very bad cold and as it got better, the severe ringing began. It's been 3 months. I've had every test you can think of (I am apparently in perfect health), seen many doctors and audiologists, and there is no physiological reason for my tinnitus. Can you please post another video giving specific information on what you did to get better? I noticed in the comments there are many that would like to hear more about your recovery and how you did it. I believe many of us would benefit from learning exactly what you did to make the ringing go away.

Mindset can be very powerful. Tinnitus is generated by the brain , so if you can retrain your brain to accept it and turn it down then the problem will be reduced significantly. People can train their brains to read words , solve problems , meditate , so why not turn down the volume of the ringing too if it's self generating? Just have a strong mindset and it'll take you far.

This video has really helped me. I’ve been suffering from Tinnitus for the better part of a year now. The meditation and focusing on my tinnitus while trying to reach and maintain a sense of relaxation in the beginning was extremely difficult with my loud tinnitus. I almost gave up 2 and a half weeks in when I didn’t see a result..however one morning I woke up to check my email and suddenly it hit me that I hadn’t heard my tinnitus for a few minutes and when I did hear it it bothered me much much less. It came back and annoyed me around 10 minutes later (don’t give up) because the next morning I experienced the same peace again although this time it lasted a little longer. My tinnitus is really starting to bother me less and less.

I've had tinnitus my whole life, noticed it when I was in 1st grade. If I focused on the sound it was all encompassing. Then if I focused on something else it went away (not really went away but into the background). The methods you describe for how you have dealt with it, that's kind of like what I've learned to do in my life. My tinnitus doesn't master me. Prayer, meditation and focus have helped me manage it. I've recently developed Tinnitus, and saw a specialist. He told me similar, saying my brain had lost its "filter", the filter that would ignore a fan in the room or the chatter in a coffee shop. He talked about neuroplasticity, or retraining the brain. He also suggested Yoga or meditation, so I will give meditation a go!

What we hear guys is the buzz of the central nervous system and the brain neurons misfiring, or clearer still, continuous firing which is perceived in the ears. Why does this happen? We instruct the RAS ( reticular activated system) in the brain to watch carefully all noise, both external and internal as a potential threat....
The RAS takes our instructions and filters out all other stuff that we deem unimportant. I hope you see how this part of the brain can be a double-edged sword.
Because we deem the noise very unpleasant, the brain deems it a threat and hence, we quickly descend into fight or flight...In this state, our auditory system is hyper-aroused and in a hyper-aroused state where we hear not just noises outside of self, but all noises of whats going on internally( central nervous system, and anything that's going on inside the ears especially)...
The negative loop of perceiving noise as a threat then creates an influx of stress hormones, which keeps the body and mind in a perpetual state of fight or flight... This message is then sent back to the brain of an escalating threat, so more stress hormones are released in preparation to run for your life or fight like hell or what most do, freeze!!!
This is v important... That energy must be dispersed. Get up and jump on the spot, go for an intense walk or swim. Shout, chant, run but do something. Yoga, tai chi q gong are all good ways to connect to the body and away from the threat, you have imagined in your brain.( exercise is an essential ingredient to let go if you are unable to achieve it through meditation or mindfulness.)
You must get out of the loop of thinking as you feel and feeling as you think. Until the brain no longer regards the noise as a threat, there is no way you can habituate or make improvements.
This presents a big problem because we spend so much time focusing on the noise, seeing it as a threat, we develop a habit which becomes hard-wired into the psychology( We become what we repeatedly think about) And this mindset must be broken by learning to focus on something else, the same way you have focused on the Tinnitus...
Learn a new language, play the piano, listen to great music. There are many ways to learn a new habit, but learn or do something new, repeatedly, until the neurons in the brain have rewired themselves, at the same time allowing the neurons responsible for the constant watching of the noise to come apart and dissolve...Breaking the habit of who we are, notably if who we are, fails to serve us or renders our ability to heal as null and void, is of paramount importance.
Bottom line is this.... Until the body drops into the parasympathetic nervous system( where we relax, digest and rest) as it should on a regular basis, habituating or healing cannot happen, which is why many sufferers have it for life.
You don't have to be one of them... Get your massage. Get your craniosacral. Get any body-based therapy which drops you into a state of calm and at the same time, learn something new. Train your brain to focus on something else. Its bloody hard, but can be done.
With love and light to all sufferers of this horrid condition, You are not alone and I believe a cure is on its way. Whether from stem cells ( for hearing loss induced tinnitus)which will regrow the hair cells and hence the gap that ade spoke of will become filled in again and hence the noise will back off as the brain welcomes back the auditory input or brain entrainment that will teach the brain to fire again in a healthy pattern, and not in a maladaptive fashion as it does with tinnitus sufferers ..
I hope this has helped and any questions, feel free. And yes, I am a sufferer also

I also do such kind of brain training to relax my emotion as I hear the tinnitus. I am glad that God allows me suffer this and uses your video to support what I thought about tinnitus. It's quite a comfort for me so that I believe I could break through it. With God's words , I have faith and enjoy this season God has made for me, even it's a challenge for me to experience. Most of time, I would do some art work to train my brain to keep balance and release all of stress I am not aware, such as photo shooting, Chinese calligraphy, singing and sketching. I went to the ENT they told me that I have TMJ and that is what cause the infection in my ears. At fisrt I was was using white noise app which helped a little the doctors gave me antibiotics which got rid of the infection but still have the ringing. So I started doing my own research for different treatments I found the changing your diet signifigantly helps you really have to eat clean cut out salt and sugar and processed foods, exercise regularly also high blood pressure can cause ringing. I am also a Christian so praying constantly helpst to calm me down. I also use a defuser with essential oils and I am taking different vitamins that promote ear heatlh my ringing has lowered a lot since using these different methods sometimes I don't even hear it then somedays I do. When I don't think about I'm fine so yes I think the mind play a role as well you just have to have FAITH that all things work together for the good of that LOVE the LORD!! And try different natural treatments don't give up and don't let the doctors have the final say

As a woman of faith in the power of thinking I seriously experienced a lessening of noise whilst listening to your testimony. I hesitated sharing this but, why not, I don't care if folks think I'm looney, believing what you said worked! The noise is still there now but it is diminished by half. Hi David. Thanks for posting this upbeat message. We need it at times. I watch it periodically. I’m new to this world unfortunately. I’m still learning to cope with. It can be very tiring with some ups and downs. Like you, I don’t always try to fully mask it. At times I don’t- I just go about my business and if I catch it I listen to it and move on. But there are times when my brain sounds like it’s sizzling. It’s these times when I put on a full mask. I’ve begun the practice of meditating twice a day for about 60 minutes. Sometimes three times. Sleep is the worst part and the loss of the quality of my life is second. How many times did you meditate a day and for how long? I suspect you’re very busy but is there a meditation reference you can provide that helped you? I. Any case, thank you again. D

Hi David. This is a most compelling video. You come across as a kind, gentle soul who truly wants to help. I've had tinnitus for no less than 30 years. I have no idea exactly when it began because, it wasn't a sudden onset such as you experienced. I may have simply habituated decades ago. I'm not certain that tinnitus is completely a brain reaction i.e., if I turn my head far left or right, the tinnitus gets louder. So, that is one simple way to show a physical reaction. There are so many ways tinnitus can happen...I'm guessing there are many ways to treat it. If this works for even one person that would be FABULOUS! Even if it lessens the intensity for people, that would be welcome. I applaud you in your effort and in wanting to offer hope to many (sharing God and prayer was really lovely, as well)! I'm a firm believer in having positive reinforcement and the hope of getting well from all things. I'm going to share this video on FB because, it's worth it. God Bless You

I've had it for 11 years. At first, it was like an air raid siren. Mine came on from drug withdrawal from methadone. I had been exposed to loud noise all of my life up until then. It never went completely away. It doesn't bother me as much now, but it is still a hissing in the background always. The super high pitch noises did go away after some years. I had used a device that generated an alternate sound for some months 9 years ago that helped a lot. A local university had a lab that helped devise them. I remember how horrible it made my life then. Good luck!

I cant find a definitive answer that Stress and Anxiety causes Tinnitus...I am really struggling...its been about 3 years and I try acceptance but I struggle to keep it going. Some people say it CANNOT be caused by stress, but I am sure it can. When mine started I was really stressed for a few months then one Saturday afternoon a hissing started. It has got worse as time has gone on. Can Stress and Anxiety really cause it??? I want to believe it does as that means i can recover. I have had all the tests and nothings wrong physically. Thank you so much for posting this video!!! I will try! What have I got to lose? My wife showed me your video on her cell phone, this morning. I was trying to sleep off a bad case of Tinnitus at the time. I thought..."You have got to be kidding me. Is it really not ear damage?" I have never heard that from a Doctor, only what you said about negative reinforcement..."You will never get over it, learn to live with it. Well, I will be 55yrs old in September and I cannot remember life without it. I have had some form of ringing in both my ears all the time, from a young child. Can it really be that simple? I wonder what else I have been told can't be fixed, but can? I have been told I also have a form of Meniere's Disease which seems to go hand in hand with Tinnitus. Is it all in the brain as well? I have had all sorts of specialist hearing tests performed and an MRI with no real positive outcome, except to be told by my Doctor that "I am in the too hard basket"...to quote his words. Thank you again David and God Bless You, for sharing this video!

This is the exact same advice offered in yoga classes. When doing a yoga stretch, if you ever encounter resistance or stress, you simply notice the sensation. Noticing it, the sensation invariably dissipates or moves to another part of the body. Good life advice as well. The things we believe are "monsters" are really just a collection of shadows augmented by our fears. All it takes to dispel them is to shine a light on them.

This a beautiful testament to being in the present, to the effect of awareness and acceptance and allowing. Non resistance is the Tao. This is God! how we can apply this lesson to so many of the disturbances in our lives (all stress/noise generated from within our own heads!) I loved this video. I'm a therapist and have treated many with tinnitis. some get helped with manual therapies more than others. Your technique should accompany physical therapy in any case. Also meditation and prayer (prayer is talking to god meditation is listening...call it what you like but we could all use more of both) could effectively be practiced for any "disorder" or as you say "malfunction." I agree with others comments that you have such a pure sweetness about you and so you totally sold me on your technique. I will pass this video on many times over.... thank you brother.

    • @Luna_and_Miles
      @Luna_and_Miles 6 років тому +1

      Sutra and Seed,
Your comments soothed me. I'm going through a rough patch right now, depressed and enormously stressed, because I have a very difficult problem I must solve for myself, and there seems no way out of it without over-thinking everything, trying to find a solution. So, of course my tinnitus is in the foreground more, as a persistent, soft kind of electronic "hissssss".
I don't hear it and forget about it when I am fully engaged in some activity, when I am out and about in the world, when I am singing, or immersed in watching a good movie, or even in a quiet room reading, if what I am reading is engrossing enough. But when my attention falls on it, the tinnitus pushes more to the foreground of my awareness, and makes me feel tired and frustrated, and is no help to any depression I might have already been feeling.
As I said, your comments are soothing though, and really help me to feel better - thank you!

Proper diet and sleep as well as sunlight exposure and fasting have been sufficient to cure me of a constant dry cough, dizziness, mood swings, nose bleeds, and various muscle pains. The symptoms I still face(which have all improved) are tinnitus, sinus congestion, and memory loss/brain fog. Right now I'm under the impression I have some sort of chronic mold or parasitic infection causing all my health problems. Recovering my health has not been easy but it must be done. Had it all my life. The last two years its doubled causing fatigue and sensitive ears. One thing I discovered recently is when I flex the back of my neck it actually makes it sound very loud. Chiropractor said my neck is abnormally tight thinking I was even injured, so I think this is related. Doctors in Canada are the same. I heard there is a new treatment from Europe coming here soon, which involves measuring and treating your tinnitus with audio, as well as electro therapy of the neck of all places. I currently cant sleep or stand to be in a room without decent background noise

My life has been stressful until I found my soul-mate who has given me stability and love...but still have tinnitus. It makes complete sense to me...that it is a fight or flight panic of the brain. Nice one David, great advise. By all reports flattening the fine hairs in your ears from volume mostly, creates a space and that is when the brain goes into the fight or flight mode that you talk about. So it's worth mentioning that loud noises, headphones, feedback and such need to be avoided, because that is often when the damage begins. But your remedy is great Cheers

It is not the flattened hair cells that trigger the fight or flight, at least not directly. It's the tinnitus that's in-between.
So: Ear damage -> Tinnitus -> Fight or Flight response -> More Tinnitus etc.
You can improve by managing the mental/physical reaction/interpretation/valueing of Tinnitus, not by eliminating Tinnitus itself.

Thank you very much for sharing! I've had tinnitus for around 4 or 5 months now. At first I was really desperate and had a hard time sleeping even, but then I figured I need to make peace with the ringing and now I can read a book and fall asleep. I'm better but there's still a lot of stress in my body, also because I'm going through a challenging moment in my life. My neck hurts often when I sleep and I feel the tension in my neck area during the day. I know that tinnitus and stress are correlated so I guess I need to relax more! Listening to you was refreshing though. THANK YOU! :)

      Adrian Villalobos,
Yep! Making peace with it is so important - and is the first phase of getting free of it, in time.
I currently have tinnitus, and have had it about 2 years, but I have no trouble sleeping, never did with this. In the beginning I would be upset about hearing it before sleep, but I also knew intuitively that I needed to allow myself to just rest, as best I could, rest and relax, and let sleep come - which it always does.
I understand that this is a stress-response condition, and that if I am calm, or as close to calm as I can manage, I will feel better. As I type this, I hear it, but I don't really care much. I'd prefer to not hear it, but honestly, truly, it is not bothering me. I am easily living with it. Still though, I am encouraged by David Lam's method, and definitely plan to try it; it makes so much sense to me.

Oh, I also meant to say I also have chronic neck tension, and often go to sleep or wake up with tension in the neck, and even went to a physiotherapist for help with it when the pain got bad. I am sure neck tension plays into tinnitus for many people. Being aware of our posture, how we sit, stand, sleep, etc., all helps in reducing tinnitus over time.

@@Oceanxx12 I'm doing great :) The solution really is not to try and run away from it. I really made peace with it. At night when I heard it, I would just focus on it, no fear. And then my mind would automatically start wandering off to other things. Same during the day. It came to a point where I never hear it unless it's totally quiet but even then I just notice it for a moment and that's it. :) I really doesn't bother me 99% of the time. The only time it gets a bit annoying is when I'm sleep deprived. So I like having my 7:30h of sleep. Otherwise I live super normally :) There is hope!

I am very sad deep inside. I am having bad dreams every night from 3 months .
Nightmares !! This started with ear blockage for no reason. I feel like my life is changed completely and I can’t get back what I lost ( silence).

I'm 71 and have had a loud buzzing noise, as far as I can remember, all my life. I used to think it was normal and all people heard it. I remember being shocked when I found out that everyone doesn't hear it. It doesn't bother me because I've always had it.

Thanks, David. I recently discovered Julian Cowall's material that explains it very similarly. It's very helpful hearing your experience verifying what he says. I'd love to hear more details about your experience.
