- Still stuck in the 1970's with a cheap black-and-white TV? Welcome to the 1980's with this black-and-GREEN TV inspired by the latest computer technology!

Great project. Green and black is awesome imo, probably because i use an analog Oscilloscope :)
The fuzziness seems to be caused by the RF modulator in the converting box. You could add a composite video input to the TV, so you could get even sharper picture.
War...war never changes...
Reminds me of my childhood - we had a colour TV that had some dry solder joints somewhere and it would often turn green. Drove us crazy.
Some very early TV receivers had a green CRT.
An amber CRT would be intresting on another monocrome CRT TV

Good idea
wow, that is a beautiful conversion. And the old tv is awesome. We had worse things in the 90's...
One of the most interesting UA-cam vidoes ever. Nice job!
I was going to try this about 30 years ago with a scrapped out monitor, but the plant manager wouldn't let me take it, probably worried that people would scrap things just to take them home. Anyway, I'm glad to see someone try it. You might find some businesses who would pay for such a thing. It would be great in a storefront window ; people would stop just to stare at it.
PS: I've never seen a CRT TV with focus adjustment; could they have done an unusually good job of hiding it? I wonder how Sony adjusted for a sharp picture at the factory or if the schematics have any clues.
Excellent conversion.
Reminds me of fallout
First time watching this video. We can all agree that it's not easy bein' green.
undervolting an oxide coated filament is a sure way to shorten the life of the tube. it is meant to be operating at about 1050C (or is it 1150C?). and you don't want the cathode poisoned by inadequate outgassing heat.
Cool. A friend of mine is actually using a green screen monitor as a display for watching DVDs in his garden shed.
I'd love to see another TV rigged with that amber CRT.
I did a simular thing recently. Only for me I used a "5 CRT from some monitor modual I could not figure out the pinout off. Swaped the CRT into a 5" CCTV monitor. Now I have a mini green screen monitor I can use with my vintage computers.
awesome stuff.
subbed.
Sanford and son in green, well he always wanted a color TV!
He didn't especify the amount of colors... Lol
Awesome! Thanks
I love picture tubes!!
I just received a black & white TV and stripped it carefully as the wooden box was rotten. I kept the crt and the board. Now you have me thinking.
you should put some kind of ring modulation effect on the audio to fit the whole sci fi vibe.
wait.. you dont have any analog channels? i live out in the mountans, i get 7 channels digital 1 analog.
awesome, I love it :)
Very cool! I would love to swap the tube in my Atari monochrome b&w with a green or amber tube. Would be a lot easier on the eyes after hours of music composition and sequencing. Any thoughts?
Funny, I just realized you uploaded this on my birthday!
NTSC is still a 60Hz refresh, it's just it's just that the 60Hz is divided among two fields, even and odd. So each field gets 30Hz each. Interlacing is weird, but that's why 30Hz had a horrible strobe, because NTSC TV is not 30Hz, that's just too low.
59.94fps. It had to be lowered to allow color information to fit onto the signals when color TV was introduced.
Now, you have to watch the matrix on it
Bad. Ass.
I really hope there is someone out there preserving the manufacturing techniques for CRT's.
This would rule on the early 60s when the B&W tv should suvk a lot during that times...
Nice :) Thumbs up :D
Alex
its like a giant Gameboy screen!
They weren't green..
green is better for the eyes thats why they used it in the first place, loving this hehe
Interesting, I am watching this at the moment with a pair of blue blocking glasses (orange lens type) and they remove the green tinge and appears black and white.
Interesting, I was somewhat dissapointed with the lack of after glow in the green crt tube ;)
Well this worked out good haha
Can you make a video of when you put a color crt
Perfect monitor to play Fallout on.
The reason you are having contrast issues by the way is because the TV has poor DC restoration or none at all.
would it not be a better idea to break the input image into 7 data-bits 1 start-bit 1.5 stop-bits at 9600 baud and see if you can get an image that way.
You should do another one with an amber CRT
It's a green tint black and white TV.
the green fits the image
Is it dangerous to touch the yoke when it's plugged in?
Usually, if you touch the connections, especially on a "hot chassis" set. If you only touch the plastic, you'll be fine, though.
Are you from Tennessee
Now put the tv's crt in the comp. Monitor.
Glue a Blue Plastic overlay on the Monitor and Voi La...a Colour Tv
this rules
Green mans, green world XD
if the Game Boy was a TV
Much better than be and double u..
Is it just me, or have I've been watching too much Family Guy because I keep expecting the music @12:43 cutting off to a loud fart?
I can appreciate the technical merit of your project as an experiment but not to pop your bubble, the gist of the project begs WHY???? This is like a color set that has a bad tube with a shorted or open red gun or a driver issue driving the red gun. Personally, I would FAR rather watch vintage TV on a BW screen favoring the contrast differential capability. Again, I salute the efforts.. Good luck!
😲👎😭 B&W good 👍.
