That tv brought me back to my childhood sitting on the floor watching cartoons and old school WWF until 96 when it got replaced sadly . Makes me want to find the same one for my collection .
That console TV is beautiful. Awesome buy Jason. Your getting my nostalga feels going and I might want to pick up a console TV for myself. Looking at yours makes me think of my family's old one. I'm happy for you man.
They need to make these again. It sucks that people have no option but to buy these thin, flat, rectangle tv's. They all look the same. They have no style.
Looking good bro! While you're waiting for you RF mod to come in the mail, I would hook that Sega up through the VCR in the meantime to free up the ports on the back for the dvd player. On my VCR, I plugged right into the front which often times is "Line 2" in your channels on the VCR. Good luck.
My grandparents had that tv from the early 90s up to around 2004. Towards the end of its life, the brightness would just randomly darken and you'd have to go bang the thing to get it to go back to normal.
Jason Voorhees is going to look glorious on that beauty. My thought, I would find a way to get everything hooked up to that beast. Switcher box perhaps? Whatever it takes, I would do. Got to be able to watch vhs slashers, old school wrestling on dvd and both Sega and Nintendo.
That tv is awesome. I had an older model growing up, that looked very similar. It was passed down from relatives I think from the 70’s. I remember sometimes while turning the channel on the knob getting shocked really bad.
Does anyone know how to get to the brightness menu or set up menu on it? I tried 3 different Universal Remotes and "Menu" never works when you try to pull it up.
Didn't know they still sold the wood grain TVs in 89. My family bought a new set in 87 to replace a wood one we had since the 70s but the store had mostly the new black plastic ones. Had that til the silver tv phase of the 2000s.
Believe it or not these console TVs were made as late as 2004, although some were plastic with wood grain finish and generally miserably cheap. There was enough of a market for them among old people.
I lost my virginity in 1989! I won't tell you how old I was. I am wondering how you get a TV picture because aren't all signals digital now? You seem to indicate you can get a picture but have trouble switching back and forth from the game and VCR. I was under the impression that old TVs made before a certain date would not work with modern signals from cable at least. Do you get your television off of broadcast perhaps? That might work. Now that would be very retro! Congrats on your find. I remember when I wanted to use my Atari back in the 1980s I had to go to the back of the TV where there was a switch spliced into the antenna or cable wire. The two options were "computer" and "antenna". I had to be on channel 3. This was also true of the VCR. In the back of the VCR there is a switch where you can choose 3 or 4 for this purpose. I can't remember how I got the Atari to work when we got cable, but I do know I didn't have to give up my Atari. Maybe it was exactly the same. It was a long time ago! A switch may work for you. My Dad set it up for me so I can't give you any more help than suggest you try a switch box. I am sure someone smarter than me can tell you more. Maybe you can just get an electrician to do it. Just spend the money if you can't figure it out. DUDE! Get that crappy soda can off that finish. At least get a coaster! You barbarian. I got my NEW Atari 2600+ hooked up to my desktop computer. Throw your old Atari away and get one. It plays the old games if you can find one that works! I love it. I never could figure out how to hook up the old Atari's on modern TVs. People said I could do it but I never figured it out. I just threw the old atari I got at a garage sale away.
I own this same TV. Yesterday, it decided to stop working. No picture just the green light comes on. Worked perfectly and only used a few time's a year. Have you had any issues
The corner consoles were the coolest ones. They were rare even when they were new. My favorite tube 📺 was the Sony Trinitron. Beautifully made inside and out,but dealing with Sony for proprietary parts was a pita. The wait time on parts was as long as 6 months, unless it was a warranty job.
I watch weird stuff on UA-cam and there is a guy on here who takes apart and repairs very old systems. Even from the 60s. Gets a little picture out of them. I love it
@@TheNew80sRevolution you just need a box of modules pulled from dead chassis that you found along side the curb on trash day lol. Those days are long gone 😥
All I have on the back of mine is a coaxial and an AV connection. With the AV, you can hook up DVD and older video games. I would think anything with HDMI would be to new for this.
if your vcr has av inputs, use an av switch box and run into the vcr. plug the sega and nintendo into the switch box. then run the vcr into the tv using av cables.
@@TheNew80sRevolution It was a feature on our System 3. I fixed it that day with a 2 dollar 5 watt resistor that was bad. Here is the good part. The picture was so incredable after all the convergence and all I kept it. But, there was a cabinet in perfect condition at the repair shop we were going to trash, I used it for my Zenith and it fit well. I had that TV through to 1987. Then, I replaced the picture tube and that got it looking new again. Thing is, I had a kid and a family then and all the family inlaws kept asking me when you are going to buy a new TV. So I can tell you being a TV service guy, ZENITH was one of the top 3 Televisions back then. Cool stuff.
What good fortune that console pickup is. Really impressive turnaround time. 85 year old has to have a mint manual as well. Ha. Solid purchase for 40 bucks. And the five dollar remote claims another victim ! Excellent.
My floor model is very similar. Slight variations with the bottom panels. The decorative fake wood paneling is the same. Think mine was an 88. Think the remote is crapping out so I just ordered the same one from ebay. I hope it works. I love having the original remote.
