  • The Hub is on the road in Missoula, Montana for five days to pipe up 1.2M Btu's of hot water heating for a 45+n unit condo property.
    mechanical-hub.com's Eric Aune joins the Mickelson Plumbing crew for an intense but fun project in this episode of our 'Hub On The Road' series.
    In this video we showcase the reliable MegaPress IPS fitting system. We rely on the RIDGID propress tools and press booster for assembly of the piping connected to the Viessmann Vitocrossal 200 commercial hot water boilers.
    Thanks to our partners for making this project possible. It's with their support we were able to produce this educational video showcasing some world-class plumbing & hvac products and tools.

    This is great. I listen to the podcast since the beginning or close to it and now I see you guys at work and all the slow-motion "action shots". This is very educational. It's great to see a group of pros doing their thing, especially on a big job like this one. Keep up the great work guys.

    What an incredible video and fun project, thanks for sharing Eric! The quality is something you would see on the Discovery Channel! Huge fan and have been following along for a long time! Mechanical hub sponsored me for the 2018 PHCC apprentice competition in Albuquerque, NM! Thank you again for that experience, I'll forever be grateful! I have been religious listener of the podcast, and it has helped inspire me to open my own shop in Massachusetts. Happened to leave the local union like yourself and have been going strong for a year and a half now. Thank you for sharing your path so I could find my own. The plumbing and heating industry's fortunate to have someone like yourself keep up the great work! Much love and respect.

    Hydronics is one of the most fascinating ways to heat a space. I’ve been in the hvacr trade for 14 years and working on boilers is my favorite thing to do. Viessman is just top notch. Beautiful looking boilers too

    Nice job you do! but as Sweden's largest retailer of Viessmann, I can't help but be surprised by how many boilers for gas are installed around the world. We install geothermal heating to 90-95%. The rest are other heat pumps and boilers. Boilers are only installed for biofuel in our regions. Gas is only available in Sweden's three largest cities. We occasionally use oil in an existing boiler as peak heating in a system with heat pumps.

    With this design will the first boiler in the cascade wear out faster because it’s running more and higher output than the 2nd and 3rd boiler? Because I would assume maximum heat won’t be called on very much of the heating season?

    • @mechanical-hub
      @mechanical-hub  7 місяців тому

      The boilers don’t operate in series, the control balances the load

    Love the long form video. I love that you showed some commercial work. I only wish that you had shown some of the startup procedure. It was unfortunate that you kind of skipped over that.

      It’s not easy to show because it’s all done thru the mobile app used to commission and monitor all the Viessmann boilers.

    How is the system performing now since it is cold and really stretching the heating systems legs? Do you think cascading systems is the way vs larger industrial/commercial boilers like that was removed?

    I see all of the NPE's in the background. Any reason why they didn't go with three NFB-399C's?

      I don’t know much about the NFC-399, but the CI-2 from Viessmann is a next level boiler. They are not really even in the same category. I’d encourage you to check them out and take a deeper look into them. Absolutely amazing boiler.

    What is your design temps.....far to often i see mod cons running 180° set points.....mod cons are designed for low return water temps....especially if you're trying to get into the 90%+ efficiency range. Im still a sectional type of guy....but mod cons have their spot in the trade.

    • @Mick_Plumb
      @Mick_Plumb 7 місяців тому +1

      I believe we are running a 1.3 slope and a +7 shift. That should get us a 180* setpoint at around 5 above. The top end of the slope is set too, 68* outdoor and is at about 120*. This is a senior living condo, so we have to target a bit higher room temp.
