Two months ago I bought a Duesenberg Lap steel and I am not sorry that I have and I am in my late 60's you are never too old to retrain, love the way Luke Cyrus Goetze plays amazing player, Thank you Luke
maureen wilson I am 65, just bought a second hand Gretsch 5700. I have a Duesenberg bender and want to install this on my Gretsch. This video is a real great inspiration, what a sound! Lapsteel is new for me, I am a guitarst with artrosis in my hands, so I hope lapsteel is my happy future!
Buried my father today. He was my best friend. On my way home from the national cemetery I opened one of your videos and listened. That smooth, baleful sound was just what I needed.
Wonderfully nuanced. This should be cited as an example of playing with "feel"...making the instrument speak - even when it emulates vocal lines, but in a more angelic, choral way.
5yrs later I still have this song in my likes and pull out every once in awhile to listen to. Great job!! I wish it went on for like 20mins instead of having to keep replaying 😉
I often think, when listening to this, that being able to do what Luke does here would make you know for sure that your life was not in vain. Thanks Luke for making the world a brighter place.
Luke, you are the absolute best lap steel player I have ever heard. your suttle transitions, tonal qualities and absolute mastery of the palm benders add a beautiful dimension to your music. From your first string strike one is pulled inexorably into a musical magic place. You are unique on the lap steel and I particularly enjoy the sounds from the Duesenberg. I love all of your songs and am a dedicated fan of your music.
Luke has got to be one of THE greatest SG players. I'm 90 yrs old; and I am into Steel Guitar and Pedal Steel Guitar to the "nth" degree for 75 yrs. And I have seen VERY few players that are in the "Talent Extraordinaire" echelon as Luke is. He knocks me out; with his "so easy" looking "playing"; that few could ever do. Thank you Luke. NONE Finer.
I want to say that I listened once and couldn't believe it...so I listened again and now I'm crying...because its so beautiful.. And I just love how you care for those strings...I'm just floored..its just wonderful, fantastically awesome.. What a sparkle in my eardrums...its so good I can't brag enough for you. I'm sorry I didn't find this sooner ..I thought all the good music making days were gone for sure..but not now Thank you for your amazing talent sir..
I absolutely love your playing on this song. My family just discovered you yesterday and we watched HOURS straight of all of your lap steel videos. Your a phenominal player and I wish you all the success. I've been inspired by you to buy my first instrument and learn to play. (Frankfort, Kentucky)
I just love your touch it's so beautiful. I love the lap steels with these finger pedals. Makes for the real Hawaiian sound or Country sound. Beautifuly played by you. Fantastic don't stop OK love this so much.
A favorite before I heard your arrangement. This is absolutely beautiful. Were I able to drop a dime on Mr. Young I'd say "you have got hear this guy" and bring him to your next studio session.
A beautiful piece of music, beautifully played. I would never get tired listening to you're playing. Thankyou for sharing you're enviable talent. Loved every second.
I am now a fan. And inspired to learn Lap Steel. I've played guitar for fifty years now. Lead/rhythm. Still play in pro working bands in bars and casuals, I'm fifty eight and just got the bug to learn Lap Steel, and you my friend make me want it even more now. Thank you for your Talent. Maybe some day I'll own a Duesenberg like that one your playing.
Charles, you will never be sorry to buy that Steel Guitar I know you will enjoy it as I do and by the way, I live in NZ and you can now buy this type of instrument in NZ anywhere I had to import into NZ
Charles Harshbarger I had an old Yamaha acoustic laying around the house that I wasn’t playing. Ordered a Hawaiian nut adapter from amazon for about $10 and a pack of lap steel strings for $8. Tuned that sucker to C6 and BAM! For
Same here. 59 turns on the coil, playing harmonica for over 40 years now, never got really proficient on guitar, but now I'm so hooked up to the steel thang...bought a Gretsch 5700, had to buy a reso (was nagging me for 20 years or so), and some days ago a 1958 Framus Electra crossed my path...and there's an Oahu Diana still waiting to get rescued... Missus complained, but accepted that having some more guitars would be preferable compared to having more women...
I love this. I love also that you aren't using picks. I just got a new steel and am switching to this tuning. G B D F♯ A D (Bob P. Lee, tuning usually called “D over G”). Can't wait to figure out what all you are doing there. I've got the basic DGA stuff but still haven't put my benders on this steel, so I'm using slants for some of that iconic melody.
Despite having been subscribed to Cyrus's channel for some time now, I did not come across this one before, so please forgive my belated reaction, but I just had to say: This is simply a superb rendition of one of Neil's finest pieces of work. Well done Cyrus, very impressive and inspiring! Please keep 'em coming.
I just bought a steel lap, and boy am I excited. Yes, I got amp. and headphones so as not to annoy neighbors lol. Luke...I will be thrilled...if I can learn to play half as good and you...I loved this...thank you sir.
THat is just sooo sweet. I think my BP drops a few points every time I listen to one of your tracks. Full disclosure: I'm a guitar player, currently working on an EP, and I am studying your work to see if I can capture some of that ambience in one of my songs. Thank you for your beautiful music.
Big fan of steel guitar music and in all those years, this one is by far the best I have heard...amazing and beautiful rendition...thank you for the goosebumps,..listened to this song every day the last three weeks and it just makes me smile!
Dear Lord man, you have got your technique of playing the Dusey down pat. This is the smoothest, most haunting, most inspirational lap steel playing and sound I have EVER heard. Please upload more songs! Do you play professionally? Where? For who? If not, you should. This is Opry quality. No, it's better than that.
You may also want to listen to Doug Beaumier on Ytube as well.....a Master Steel Player if there ever was one... on ALL types and brands of Steel Guitars.... Lap, Console & Pedal... from single neck to quads... absolute perfection in every aspect.
My wife and I danced to this at our wedding.❤🎉
The pitch bending took this from a 10/10 to a 15/10. One of the most enjoyable examples of slide playing I’ve ever heard. Well done!
Agree

@Richard Obdeijn Troy Brenningmeyer has a great video for getting into this specific instrument (:
You have added to the inspiration of this young man's work. I, too, am considering getting a Fairytale, along with a Weissenborn. Thank you

Spot-on maureen wilson! I'm 66 and still cooking with my "stable of axes!" LOL
0:34 - 1:04 is the most beautiful little clip I've ever heard. And if you're asking, no, I'm definitely not crying.
Dude, yes. He’s a master! 🕊
Buried my father today. He was my best friend. On my way home from the national cemetery I opened one of your videos and listened. That smooth, baleful sound was just what I needed.
Oh my god. It was the same for me man. Lots of love and hope you're working through it
Hope you’re working thru the pain , buddy. You aren’t alone in it .
My grandpa died today, he always made me laugh.
this is possibly the most beautiful thing i have ever heard
i could not agree more
I could listen to this slow and easy sound for hours. Thank you for sharing.
Lois Clark absolutely beautiful...
I'm floored, melted, swooned, blessed! Thank you.
It's scary how you get all the melodical nuances of Neils voice in this one.
Wonderfully nuanced. This should be cited as an example of playing with "feel"...making the instrument speak - even when it emulates vocal lines, but in a more angelic, choral way.
I could listen to Luke all day long. He can sure play that Dusenberg 🤩
As a long time guitar player just entering the world of lap steel, this is beyond just inspiring. I am blown away. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Canadian Neil Young composer would be proud. Thanks.
What about the American Neil too?
Amazingly beautiful version of a great song, the little bend between 0:26 and 0:29 just melts my heart.
I clicked thinking I was going to hear a Nick Drake song (Harvest Breed) on pedal steel... not disappointed tho, this is one of my fave Neil songs.
Absolutely beautiful
The effects of this have shown me a place in my heart that I never even knew existed.
