It cuts off but you can see the entire clip here: ua-cam.com/video/Zcb1HpH42N8/v-deo.html Nikki Barclay on that piano - she was runnin and riffin the blues on this number, man these girls are great and it's a shame no one knows who they are today. June Millington - Lead guitar and vocals Jean Millington - Fender P-Bass and harmonies Alice DeBuhr - Drums and harmonies These girls kick ass and deserve to be in the rock hall of fame. If the Go-Gos are going into the rock hall Fanny damn well better get in sometime fast! I'm on a mission since I discovered them a couple months ago. Like you I'm ashamed I've never heard of them. We need to get them recognized for their groundbreaking work. This is from 1973, a good 10 years before anyone heard of the Go-Gos and 12 years before Madonna, and 15 years before the Bengals - none of whom have the serious chops these girls have. The girls are all around 70 now. June still plays and has a few videos of her recent gigs (still has that long hair and it's a beautiful silver now). As I understand it Jean recently suffered a stroke. Alice has done some interviews but hasn't been as active, and Nikki has completely retreated from music and stays out of the spotlight all together. But we must get this band the recognition they deserve while they're all still with us.
yes they need recognition after trashing fellow woman bands and making fun of fans. June Millington thinks what hurt them is that they were too "intelligent". implying that the runaways, go gos, bangles and hole were not intelligent, that's why they saw more success.
Really cool music. Sometimes you just forget how amazing music was back then. Also loved seeing those shoes. I had a similar pair in 1978 when I started to walk alone to school. So they brought back lots of memories. Like how they made me trip and fall so many times, that I sometimes hated them. Still, they were the only summerly shoes I had, so basically those or barefoot. I also loved the vest made out of granny squares. Feel like I have to make one now. This was great. Thanks.
Superb analysis, and I discovered them here too on UA-cam, and it is a shame that they didn't become superbig back then, because they truly deserved it. Very few bands were so talented and most of all tight and skillfull, and I've been trying to get hold of all their original albums since I first saw them. Right now, I am only missing their debut album.
This was from the blue screen session for Beat Club. June Millington (guitar/vocals), Jean Millington (bass/vocals), Nicky Barclay (keys/vocals), Alice deBuhr (drums/vocals). . Fanny was underrated in the day, but managed two minor hits. They broke up in 1975. The Millington sisters reunited with drummer Brie Howard-Darling, who had been with the band when they were first signed but fired by their producer because he wanted a quartet, for an album in 2017. Unfortunately, before they could tour, Jean suffered a serious stroke, and she's still unable to play bass. The band had an almost-full reunion tour (Barclay did not particiate) earlier in 2023, with the MIllington sisters, deBuhr , Howard-Darling, and Patti Quatro (who had replaced June on guitars for their last album). If I recall correctly, bass was split between Lee Molinaro (Jean's son) and another bassist whose name I can't recall.
Not rehearsing -- there was a cable problem. Also this vid got cut off, unfortunately. Fanny have a lot of Beat Club appearances and so many are on youtube. You can make a killer playlist with them! Beat Club was a German TV show similar to American Bandstand but with more band and less host 😃. The UK had its similar show in "Old Grey Whistle Test."
It's a P Bass. Jean bought it brand new in '63. She still has it. June still has that guitar also. She picked it up from a friend of a friend who needed money.
She had another Les Paul Jr. before this one and it got stolen while they were loading the truck after a college gig. 😒But she has had this one for 50 years.

The drummer was recently on Bill Burrs podcast. It was nice listening to her talk about fanny and the music industry back in the day. I'm terrible with names but she is an awesome lady.
OMG yes! Birtha were contemporaries and friendly competitors with Fanny. Birtha had a little more Led Zeppelin-ish sound, where Fanny definitely was usually a little bit lighter but they really had a groove and it shows! They're both excellent listens!
Hello, I would like to see your reaction to the performances of the singer with an amazing voice Diana Ankudinova. She performed covers of the famous songs "Wicked game", "Human", "Take on Me" and others. She also has her own songs.

I think you would like a guy called shakey graves, he is very underrated his song “roll the bones” is very good I think you would really like it and his techniques
I saw them perform love just once back in the early 70s, at one of the Hollywood clubs; maybe the Troubador or Pandor's Box. Went out to my local record store (May's Music Mart) and bought their "Fanny Hill" album. They were better live. I don't recall ever hearing them on the radio. Bass player Jean Millington is my fave, but they were all great.
𝙊𝙝..𝙨𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮'𝙧𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 It's from an unedited video of a recording session for a German TV show called Beat Club. The session was about 35 minutes long and posted on YT. Another killer performance by them is one they did for French TV. It's about 10 minutes long. They start with Badge by Cream then transition into Young and Dumb by Ike and Tina Turner. Fanny is one of those bands that I prefer life, over some of their studio recordings. There certainly weren't any weak spots in the band. But since you have a keyboard in front of you, I'll just say that Nickey Barclay does a super job on the piano and Hammond organ, plus has great vocals as well.

You ask, "What happened to them?" I ask the same thing! You rave about them, but yet you never revisit them. In the words of David Bowie, "revivify Fanny"! You like the piano player? Watch their video for, "Blind Alley" on the Beat Club channel. . .though all of their songs are worth a watch. It seems their record label/producer seldom really captured the true Fanny - you have to watch these live videos to see who they truly were. Be sure to watch the drummer on, "Blind Alley" as well. She and the piano player both SLAY. ua-cam.com/video/SftgE1vfwbk/v-deo.html They also had a great appearance on The Midnight Special.
Hell of a band! This girls rocked it!🔥🔥🎸🎸. Very talented ladies. They need more recognition!!
How has no one else “reacted” to this? So funky and iconic.
Fanny needs more love
me love the fanny, you would be surprised just how many people actually love fanny
You've got to see them play Blind Alley. It's that song that made my jaw drop
Me too. Especially the drumming.
This whole performance is amazing but the song that got me hooked was “Place in the Country”
The thing that gets me if the PERFECTION on the time changes from fast to slow to fast again. ALL of them are spot on, every single time. Astounding.
