Nothing, pure or natural in this. Young she was a total built artist by Ike Turner, true despot who calibrage every inch of her performances. Blows in support if necessary.

An older sib & friends saw Ike & Tina open for the Stones at MSG early 70s. They said most opening bands often were politely tolerated. You know...one more pee, get more beer, grab seat. But when Ike & Tina performed, the crowd roared!!! When they finished their set, the crowd roared for an ENCORE!!! Unprecedented! (Or so they say.)

What a LADY, I remember way back in 72 I got great tickets to the Newport Jazz Festival and had just listen to the closing act which was Herbie Mann and I thought I had die and gone to heaven and as we were all standing up applauding his encore and getting ready to leave, the announcer said please wait that there was going to be one more act, almost as though it was a kind of an apology, and that this was going to be some kind of Rock-N-Roll not Jazz and right away everyone began booing, he then announced the act was Ike and Tina Turner and you guess it “Proud Mary”.
I have never seen or ever will see again a more power, more energy, more fun, more vibration, and more insanity of the audience then that night, that night will live in my memory till the day I die, thank you for taking the time and reading this. Bob

He choreographed every routine they did, and if he hadn't been shovelling so much Peruvian marching dust up his nose, would probably still be putting out great music today..

Makes me proud of American artistic culture. Tina was the product of blues, R&B and Rock traditions, predominately African American, of the Southern U.S. Her sound is known throughout the world but it's easy to forget it originated in a very specific time and place. As a white American whose eyes are wide open to the political challenges our country faces, and to the messages of division the Republican party is sending to the world, at least I can be proud of our culture -- primarily our musical culture -- still influencing the world. American music and its derivatives are a world treasure.

This music Tina Turner was the first time I (8 yrs) watched TV behind the chairs of my group leaders at the Institute for the Deaf. Everyone was sleeping upstairs and I still couldn't sleep. I came downstairs and tiptoed behind our living room, through sliding walls, and then sat with both feet on the floor behind the chairs... my eyes were full of amazement as to how she could completely lose her dancing... I have admired her ever since, until her death. That was unforgettable!

There should be a thing for like a time capsule for a hundred years from now or something for 3 generations down the line… “Who was Tina Turner, What did she sound like, and What made her so special and different from any other performer before or after her?”
Um, THIS. NOBODY could never possibly duplicate her sound. Only ONE Tina.
