I watched a game of two coaches. One schemed his play calling to protect and encourage his QB running the ball, playaction passing, screens, etc . The other abandoned the run and called passing plays when the run should've been the focus. I honestly feel they are tanking the season for another first round pick. Bryce will stay and be traded during or before the draft. The panthers are trying to collect players and rebuild the team.
Bryce looked pretty good in my opinion. They gotta fix that defense. We look like a leaky bucket that can't hold anything. I still think we should let Andy be the bridge and let Bryce sit and learn.
Look at someone like Baker. Being a good QB is not something that is a measurable yes or no, in particular in the first few years. It's situational and based more on the team than the QB himself, football is different from other sports in that way. From his college performance and interviews it's clear that Bryce is level headed and capable. What has to happen is a team has to be built around him in order for him to reach a sustainable level of success and high level play. That's what tepper is blind to, many fans don't get it as well. This team was and is still at least a couple years away from being ready to draft a QB. Look at the Bears, they use our draft picks and talent to build a team, then they can insert the talented rookie QB and become a good team overall. Any team that is not loaded with talent must use an experienced veteran in that position to have any chance of success. But then you get the Dalton situation, he started hot, then the league adjusts to his skill set and style and he is a very average QB. The real trick is to trade down and select all the physical positions with as many top 3 round picks as you possibly can. Then insert proven QB's and even often times proven CB's to fill in those critical gaps. That's how you win. A loaded team, that has followed the proper steps, can then start the talented rookie QB clock and open the championship window. I'll always say that coaching is the most importrant thing in the NFL as well as following the formula. You need a leader at the top that the players care about and want to make look good and win for. Tepper had no idea when he had that very guy in the locker room leading the team for half a season, that was the last time we played inspired football. We may just continue to suffer the consequences of tepper not understanding football or human nature. 80% standard effort to 100% effort doesn't show on tape, only in the win-loss column and in the playoffs. He's probably spoiled it because the players are never going to win for him. Since he ruined our first opportunity to win when we had the leader in place, maybe someone like TD could change the atmosphere and do it. Looking for an 'Offensive mind" or a "QB Whisperer" is only going to prolong our being a bottom half team. Leadership is the one quality that matters in an NFL Head Coach.
I want to see improvement when the game is still salvagable. Not in garbage time. That's what I want to see from Bryce. I want to see him win a 4th Qtr comeback this year. I'd like to see him WILL this team to win. I haven't seen anything like that from him. Even with an improved line.
Bryce threw 2 interceptions and looked scared a couple times and rushed a throw for no reason, threw some good balls here and there, but he’s so inconsistent. I can’t remember what play this was after but it was 3rd and 14, Bryce throws a slant maybe 1 second at most into the play with absolutely 0 pressure and we get a gain of 2 yards on 3rd and 14… it made no sense at all.
