  • How to build a tripod chain hoist to lift and reset gravestones and headstones.
Note: This was my first video and is rather lengthy and unedited...but useful. Check out later videos for more concise instruction. Including this video, there are 6 builds.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you sir for showing how this was made.

With weight on the legs, you dont need to worry much about the legs splaying. The legs will sink in to the ground. But of course if you dont want to damage cemetary grass, yes a pressure pad, and some sort of splay control would be a great idea

Thanks for posting. Simply elegant and well thought out. How far down did you drill the second hole?

Great video thanks for the information, but how about if you use longer bolt on top? I think it will give you enough spread of three tubes without needing for second holes to be drilled.

A longer bolt will do nothing to allow the legs to splay out into a isosceles triangle. Without elongating to two outer holes, the legs will not spread out any wider than the length of the bolt. By making to two outer holes oblong or elongated, the outer legs can spread out from the center leg by many feet to create a stable tripod with legs equidistant from each other.

Los tubos de cuantos MM son los tubos.
    Cuántos kilos podría levantar..???

The tubes are approximately 2.5-3.0 inches in diameter. Each tube section is about 4 feet long. When all 4 tubes are interlocked to form a leg, the leg will be about 12-14 feet depending on your drill holes and assembly pins placement

Nice, I see now why you used no washers behind the double lock nuts.

Have you checked out the Boss Buck tripod header?
Seems pretty stout and great for lifting large stones and boulders. Only $50 too.

Does not appear to be strong enough for a 2-3 ton chain hoist and some of the heavy lifts I have done. Looks like a great tool for lighter jobs and those without DIY skills or tools. Would like to see some specs on it.

Do you have a parts list for this? Nolt and chain sizes and lengths?

    • @agoodcemeterian
      @agoodcemeterian  3 роки тому

from memory, bolt is Grade 8 for strength, 3/4 diameter and about 12" long. Chain is grade 70, about 15" long. I forget size of chain, only that it has to be large enough for bolt to pass through. My guess is 5/16". Length of chain can vary a bit, just need to create a big enough loop to clip your chain hoist clevis/hook to it

Yes. See Tripod hoist build 2, 3, and 4 as well as other videos by me using it in cemetery

maximum mass that this tripod can load??

I have yet to exceed the capacity of the 2 ton hoist attached to the tripod. the heavier the lift, the closer together the legs need to be to prevent collapse of the pipe. I estimate the heaviest gravestone lifted to date was about 3000#.

Not really. Just multiple sets of floor jacks, a long bolt, washers, nuts, chain, and hitch pins. All stuff easily sourced locally or on line. See also my other tripod hoist build videos #2 & 3

That's Shapiro speed; 1.5 is good though. Thanks, good idea.
