Brad, you mentioned you never put foundation in the brood box. I know with you running all deeps that's an option for you but what if you run medium supers? Is there a limit of foundation you'd recommend for adding to deep brood boxes? I'm doing a mix of deep and medium supers this year but I feel the only way to get more drawn deep frames is by putting some foundation in the brood box. Any insight is appreciated. Hi, Mike. I never draw foundation in a brood chamber chiefly because I don't have to and also, drawing foundation in a honey super simply works better. If a person runs all medium supers, I always suggest to run a deep super on a colony in order to draw out comb that you'll need the following season. If a person will be expanding their apiary in subsequent years, drawn brood comb is vital to success and there is no place or time to draw comb than in a honey flow.
You can draw foundation in a brood chamber but I feel it isn't nearly as reliable as in a honey super. Sometimes you do what you have to do.
@@ThatBeeMan Gotcha. Thanks for the reply. I will give that a shot. I started transitioning to deep supers this year just because it makes things so much easier. But it's hard to do when you have drawn medium supers and the flow kicks in. I'll probably start putting some deeps on just to get them drawn out. Thanks again. Take care!
