I was recently diagnosed as autistic. I had, what everyone called my fits, my whole life. I now know they are meltdowns. Somehow knowing that is a bit comforting. Im not so hard on myself any more.
My first autistic meltdown I can remember happened teaching a calculus 3 recitation my first semester of grad school
Severe to Moderate Credentialed Special Education Teachers are a rare breed that deal with some of the most challenging behaviors. Sadly, they are often given the smallest classroooms with the least amount of resources and staffing support. Look at the classroom setting. It's cold. Compact. Chaotic. Loud. An auditory insult at every angle. It doesn't matter how good a "plan" is when the setting sucks. Let's keep it real.
The one at my school is abt 2 times bigger and is rlly colourful so thats great!
