Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video! I have always used the self cleaning feature of my previous ovens. After reading comments about shortened appliance life and possible fire hazards I decided not to use the function of my new oven. I also didn’t clean up spills either. It was quite a mess with cement-like burned on grease covering a good portion of the bottom. I used your method and after three days, I got it clean again. I won’t let it get away from me again as I now know what to do for upkeep. Thank you! You and your team are the best!
Uh Oh... I used the yellow can on my self clean....but only a few little spots on the bottom... and wiped away... I don't think it hurt anything... but good to know I need the blue can from now on... I never use the self-clean because I'm too sketched out by it
Thank you for this video. I have been so scared to try the self cleaning feature on my oven because I think it'll cause a fire. This is exactly what I needed to learn. Love your videos. They are so helpful.
In my previous house, when I ran the self cleaning cycle the oven stopped working. It was older so maybe it was ready to go anyway. I have double wall ovens in my current house and they have to be at least 20 years old. I don’t want to risk having to replace them so I haven’t used the self cleaning cycle. I wasn’t sure it was ok to use oven cleaner on a self cleaning oven. This will be my project for the weekend!
I used my self cleaning oven once and when finished it wouldn't unlock. The person N who came to unlock it said this happens frequently and to never use self clean on the oven. Glad for the video. It helps a lot.
Lots of manufacturers recommended avoiding this stuff as it can damage the finish on the self cleaning oven. Just used the self clean setting on mine for 3 hours, and waited for it to cool quick wipe with a damp cloth and good as new. No chemicals required.
I just read online that windex is NOT SAFE for the interior of an oven, even if the main cleaning following your steps has already been completed. Have you researched this? Someone I live with is very averse to harsh chemicals. Just curious. Thanks!
Very satisfying to watch. My oven is not self cleaning. When I clean my oven with yellow Easy Off, after wards to protect the bottom, I buy an aluminum oven bottom from Walmart. You get two sheets. Lay one down, all your drips fall in the aluminum. When is dirty just toss & use your second sheet. Oven bottom still clean!!
Interesting, are they called oven bottoms? Or are they just large aluminum trays? If they can handle the heat right on! We have seen some sad ovens where people have lined the bottom with aluminum foil. It cannot always handle the heat and can melt which leaves an incredible mess - basically need to replace the bottom part of the oven. Which you can do, you don't always have to replace the whole thing. Partswarehouse.com or partselect.ca are your friends in these scenarios. Save yourself a few bucks and some space in the landfills.
I wish I did! Maybe if I ever get to talk to the big wigs at Easy Off they will share some secrets. All I know is to make sure the red dot and the hole in the spray nozzle are lined up. It won't spray otherwise. I get lots of DM's from frustrated people who think their can is broken.
Love you guys! 💞 Can I use the blue can on my gas oven? If so, do I need to cover the openings where the flames come out before spraying or just make sure I wipe them out really well?
Can you do a tutorial for a convection oven. It’s hard not spray the fan. I’ve made the fan blades pretty gross from spraying oven cleaner and I can’t get them nice again, even after trying to remove the fan cover.
Your oven door glass cleaning video was nice. When cleaning the oven, would it be easier access if the door was removed? You made it look like a simple job.
I was going to comment on this. I would do the door first then remove it. Makes getting into the oven so much easier. Quick UA-cam search and you can find out how to take the door off your oven. Way mire simple than I thought it would be. Thank you for your video.
Great instructional video. Especially about the oven racks, they are my nemesis! Quick question, not about oven cleaning, but about cleaning. Your kitchen cabinets look very much like my cabinets. They are Kitchen Kraft brand. I checked on their website for cleaning help, but their method just doesn't remove the greasy looking streaks. I've tried making a paste out of baking soda and Dawn. It looks great and clean, and then it dries. Ugh. Do you have any cleaning tricks? Thanks!
This is one of my staff's houses. She has been using hot water and tide for years on her. cupboards...well since she started working for me back in 2020. She says don't judge her she had been dirtying up her oven for awhile just for this video lol.
Personally I don't, but you can. We use grab a rags (you can find them in the auto aisle at Costco) and wash and reuse them any time we can. But if they are greasy we usually toss them.
That is a new one, I have never heard that before. Did you ever watch Laguna Beach or the Hills back in the early 2000's? People always tell me I look like Lo (aka the other Lauren) lol.
Any idea what they are coated with? We have cleaned BBQ grills and cast iron gas stove grates by soaking them in hot water with a few dishwasher pods too.
Before watching this video, I thought you used the blue can when you use the self-cleaning function. So, I bought the yellow can and cleaned up my oven (with a self-cleaning function) really well! Did I just wreck my oven? Or am I ok as long as I don't use the self-cleaning function?
Your oven is probably okay, you may have damaged the coating for the self - clean function but it should be fine to cook in. If you want to try the self cleaning function in the future I would keep a very close eye on it.
Some people say that the self cleaning cycle can damage your oven. I have never had an issue but there are plenty of people who have. I have always done it for the shortest amount of time it allows. But I do find it doesn’t reach everywhere like the outer edge by the door. And it does nothing for the glass
The aqualift feature is useless. I am tho king I would have had to use it every time I cooked. I didn’t do that and had no idea how to actually get it clean. I moved and left it behind! This method would be worth a shot
I have a question. Why is it called a self cleaning oven with even a bottom on the stove to select “ self cleaning” if it seems to be good for Nothing?
Definitely wear a mask using that stuff and wipe down the oven with warm water and a cloth. You don't want to be cooking with any cleaning residue left behind.
Kindly members mark oven grill and fryer cleaners or any heavy duty oven grill cleaners with sodium hydroxide It is one and done and a wet pumice stone
I personally do not like using the feature because the fumes are so strong and pretty overwhelming. We have a young child in our household and if it’s strong smell for myself I can’t imagine how it is for her.
Be really careful on the self cleaning function. We ran ours and it locked up the whole oven and had to replace fuses in both top and bottom of our wall oven. This feature heats it up so high it can do as much damage and was tough lesson learned for us. Forums are littered with people who wrecked their ovens because of this "feature"
here a hint check your oven doors many oven doors can be taken off ther like a lever and that way you dont have to crawl on floor or squat and wash... check oven manual enjoy
Sometimes the oven is too dirty to run a self clean and is a fire hazard and some people do not like using the self clean function all. There are varying opinions on the self clean function. Even if you do run the self clean function you will want to vacuum the ash out (after it has cooled down). If you have any burnt on remnants you can hit it with oven cleaner and scrub it off. If you use your self clean function you should be running it often (monthly) so you don't get tough burnt on spots.
I think this what you can do when you haven’t run your self cleaning oven in a while but if your oven isn’t that dirty then you can just use the self cleaning I could be wrong though 😀

A ton of helpful, well-presented information. Thanks!
What about the ceiling of the oven? That’s the most awkward place to access and probably coated with splattering.
I have this question also.
It's definitely awkward but you can spray the ceiling but there will be some cleaner lost to dripping as it works.
I’ve tried this and it works great thank you for the video
Brilliant! Never would've thought to use sos pads or even windex. Though did try cleaning eraser on glass but needed more work...for my oven anyway
Thank you for this video. Now I can go and start cleaning my oven.
Glad I could help you tackle that oven!
I love it here in this Type A section of the interweb.
Would love to see a “bed week”. Dedicated to all things bed.
I will add more bed videos to our list.

@@gocleanco Walmart carries EZ Foil Liner Trays. Two in package. 18 x 25 by 15.75 inch. 3.72 USD. They can handle it. I've used for years.

The tip for cleaning the racks was so helpful! My racks look brand new!
I have an antique tub and I’m not comfortable using harsh chemicals in it. I wonder if a large plastic container (like Rubbermaid) might work?
My question is why did you not remove the door to have easier access to the inside of the oven instead of reaching in from the side?
Do you have a trick for spraying the easy off because mine sometimes stops working when there’s product still left?
I wish I did! Maybe if I ever get to talk to the big wigs at Easy Off they will share some secrets.

Yes you can use Easy Off on gas ovens. Check your manual first to be safe. Especially if it's an older model.

Can a pumice stone and 0000 steel wool be used safely in a self cleaning oven?

I leave the racks in the oven and spray them with easy off and it works faster than soaking. At least in my experience

Yes, we wiped the element down too.

Can you wash those re-useable cloths in the washing machine after using it for oven clean?
You can, we usually toss them after an oven clean. They are typically pretty gross and greasy.
What about racks that are coated. Mine are not silver, they are black.

Instead of the oven self clean
@ab510819 I didn’t know you could soak the burner caps!
Ouch. I used the yellow in a self cleaning oven. I hope I didn’t hurt the oven.
If the interior of your oven is blue can you still use the blue can of Easy-Off? I was told NO.

Why do people not want to use the oven’s SC function? I get that if is super dirty why not, but otherwise why, help me understand!
It gets extremely hot and can melt wires and damage homes. Happened to me, I don’t care what the manufacturer says, I don’t trust it anymore.
The SC function uses a lot of energy and shortens the life of the oven - per the oven repair guy we had fix ours.
