    The first black car I owned was a humble Chevrolet Malibu (I have a black truck, but that is just worked and driven all the time, so it rarely sees a proper detail). A sleek black 2012 LTZ V6 with a matching black leather interior. It was understated, stylish and all around nice. Washing and waxing was easy enough, but it had to be done frequently. Over time, it just needed more than a basic wash and wax, so I’d have it periodically detailed, and whenever I got that car back with the car fully detailed top to bottom inside and out, it made me love the look all over again. The deep, jet black exterior, the rich black interior, the brightly contrasting chrome and all the shine in the world, it was gorgeous! Now, a few cars later on, I have my second black car and I’m getting ready for its first wash, and soon its first detail, and I can’t wait to see that metallic sheen shine through!

    Great, from now on I’ll foam 1st then rinse, this bit I was always 50/50. On the bucket method, I use 1 bucket with multi mitts.
    1 top tip I saw you doing was pulling the handle then rinse that’s the 1st I seen anyone doing that 👍🏻.

    I think it’s simply logical Scott like you said about the dirt and lubrication, yes the water is kind of lubricant but not more than a soap. It’s a great idea to foam the car before rinsing it and by this, you save some water in the process. In my case, I always start from the top, make sides, the back and finish with front cause it take all the stuff like bugs, dirt, road film right in the face and can be more difficult to remove. I also use one bucket and rinse my wash mitt just like you did ! Thanks again Scott for your tips.

    I do a similar process with my black Subaru. You look at the paint the wrong way and it will scratch.
    I foam, rinse then I touch once to wash and dry. I use one of your suggestions of high concentration of wolfgangs rinseless wash as my wash and drying agent.
    I touch it basically once and remove remaining dirt, add some protection and dry the car.
    I go through a few microfiber towels but it comes out really good.

    Spot on bud, foam was created to lift dirt and such not soften objects. Bugs need to be soaked and softened. So pre rinsing before foam is a bad idea. Funny how some don't think of the mirrors or fuel door or jams or back of the rims, ok that's enough. Nice straight lines. My Impala and Harley are both black. My pain! No one stops dead over a white car.

    That's actually how I do my maintenance washes on my wife's 2017 Nissan Sentra that is alert red color. I wash it once a week and always put some sort of wax on it. Spray Wax after every wash. Once every 3 to 6 months I'll put another type of wax/sealant on the paint. Her car is easily the cleanest car at her job.

    LOL man, I was just thinking of how satisfying it is to watch that soap get hosed down off the car and then you turned around and asked if it was satisfying. Get out of my head!
    Sometimes I wonder if I'm overthinking the whole car washing thing. However, I went to a hand car wash a few months ago and they started their mitts on my wheels and used the same mitts on my car's body going in circular motions. I literally heard the dirt and whatever else was down there GRINDING into my car's paint. I thought I was going to have a panic attack. Needless to say, my poor car was scratched everywhere! I wish there was an easier way to wash my car in the winter without having a garage...I'm from the east coast and it's 32 degrees. Thanks for the videos Scott!

    Scott totally agree with the black car hatred. Great mirror tip too! I bought a 2018 Chevy Bolt EV and kicking myself everyday. Not only black but some of the softest paint I have ever seen. A while back I saw a video where instead of the standard two bucket system his idea was multiple mitts. Since mitts are inexpensive and most have multiple I bet this makes it doable. 4-5 mitts in soap bucket, do a section and toss mitt in a bucket with clean water but its not to be used again. This allows for a clean mitt every time and never dunking it in dirty rinse water.. Makes sense to me, I switched to that method...what are your thoughts?

    You are using a soap bucket? I've been following your recommendation to refoam and then wash with a clean wet mitt, rinsing the mitt as necessary. Is it just with black cars you do this?

    @tdtommy196 Рік тому +1

    I know this is old. I totally agree with 1 bucket as to not introduce dirt into the wash bucket, but why not just use a bunch of mitts instead of trying to rinse one mitt off and get yourself soaked in the process or run the risk of not getting all the dirt off of it? Mitts are cheap. $20 at Harbor Freight can probably get you like 8 mitts.

    I appreciate this video very much. Thanks Scott. Especially the side mirror and door handle cleaning advise you made. Am guilty for not doing those.
    I think swirl free is bliss. Minimal swirl will be somewhat realistic 🤣
    I do prewash with a degreasing foam shampoo (Gtechniq W4) in a dry black car. But what I accidentally found out as I was washing earlier, was to shampoo contact wash the car with the degreaser foam on it (after a 5 min. dwell, and after another pass of degreasing just to finish the entire content in my foam lance)
    It looks good. Considering that I am using such a hard deepwell water.
    Finished it off earlier with Carpro Essense Plus to hide some of the swirls i made previously.

    Nice one Scott
    I have a 1700 PSI Simoniz pressure washer. I was wondering if there is a secondary foam cannon that you know of to use to get a good thick foam application rather than the one that comes out of the cannon attachment they supplied.
    Cheers,

    Love your power washer short handle gun. Where can I pick one of those up Scott? Also where can I grab a ladder like yours?

      @Calendyr 5 років тому

      If you have an electric pressure washer, you will most likely need an adaptor to change the gun. Those short guns are all on the M22 14mm standard and most electric pressure washers use the European M22 15mm connectors. If you search Amazon for the guns, also make a search for the adaptor or it will not fit your hose.

      Russell from 9th Gen Accord has a video, he shows you how to build a short gun with all the quick connects, he recommends a Forney which is German made, another item he recommends is Blue Monster Tape instead of teflon tape, I took his advice and that tape works very well, I don't use anything else. Additionally Lowes sells a quick connect kit by Blue Hawk for $20 for all your pressure washer hook ups: garden hose, pressure washer hose, spray gun. Just be aware of the make of your pressure washer, if it has the European M22-15 connections you'll need adaptors, lots of adapters, I know Sun Joe has the European Standard, Green Works uses the American M22-14 Standard, not sure about any others.
