  • We build a set of ramps for our Jeep Wrangler that can be used for gaining additional clearance for working underneath the Jeep. Made from low cost and easily found materials. Some simple tools are required, but everything is relatively easy to do.

with this kind of videos my life gets easier, thanks for the great video, I will try to do my ramp tomorrow.

Nice Idea, but for getting under the car I'd really recommend using Jack Stands. Allot safer than using Wood that can split, or Cinder Blocks that can crumble. It only takes a moment and you can never take back this type of injuries.

I have jack stands too. If I am getting under for any wrenching or any longer than a few minutes, I use stands in addition to the ramps. These ramps are very stable though and I trust them way more than the plastic or steel ones. Conservatively, the wood is rated at a compressive strength well above the weight of the jeep. Especially if you have four evenly distributed ramps. You have to make sure you get the right wood and you take care of them. One reason I am so confident in these is that the wood itself shows no compression, deformation, or dents from the tires. I agree with you that you should be as careful as you can. I am not a fan of cinder blocks. I used to do load testing on them when I worked for an adhesive manufacturer. When they fail it is usually without warning and it is catastrophic.

great video... also suggestion... you should add a stopper at the end of the ramp so that it won't row over when u reached the top of the ramp. :)

Great project. I wonder if you could add a stop block on top to keep you from driving off the end....maybe it would be hard to feel though..glad to see another video up.

Frenzy Fire, Thanks! yeah I gave a stop block a lot of thought. The 1.5" steps really don't register much of a feel to them. So it couldn't be a small stop block. It then can interfere with sliding it under the rear wheels when you are using four of them. Also If you put a larger one on, I would be afraid that the forward momentum of the jeep could transfer into movement of the whole block. From an engineering standpoint, pressing on the stop block changes the forces involved from a very simple compressive strength calculation to one that is above my pay grade.

I just bought 2 cinder blocks and a pile of rocks whenever I work on my Honda Passport that I use like a Jeep.
