Awesome! I'm on day 8 of sleep after having insomnia since late July. I can't wait for the day to stop counting. I'll be ready to graduate from BedTyme very soon.

Hi Romi! You're an inspiration and I've very much enjoyed listening to your experience. May you be well!
Dear Daniel, I have a question for you. After having improved so much with insomnia, I'm having a bit of a reocurrence of sleep struggles right now and I am realizing that some residual fears crept back in or were never fully truly gone. I am ready to tackle those fears heads on, it even feels fun! 😈But I have a question: One of my befriending wakefulness strategies was and is listening to podcasts or audiobooks. It comes from that I just get utterly BORED and annoyed when I am lying awake in bed, and listening to a podcast is one of the most comfortable things that I can think of when I am not sleeping at night. So very often I then doze off while I listen to something, which has the unfortunate side effect that I feel nervous when I try to sleep without a podcast and it wires me up and then I won't sleep. So my strategy to befriend wakefulness lands awfully close to strengthening a safety behaviour.
I'd love to go to sleep with peace and no podcast, really effortlessly, because it sucks to have a dependence on anything really.
I'd love you hear talking about this in a future video!
Sending lots of love and appreciation.

Thanks so much for the encouragement 🙏 and I’d say awareness is what matters, when we see something turn into an effort, the “secret” intent is revealed, and when a secret is revealed it no longer exists.

There’s actually a topic I’m planning to make a video on called Calibration, look out for this! This said, without having named it, it’s what I talk about in Insomnia insight #491, do check it out and let us know if it made sense 🙂

Talking insomnia 12 was really helpful. all of these are. i am completely convinced insomnia is an anxiety disorder.
I have one question -- I totally understand not forcing the sleep and to do something fun or distracting like reading, watching netflix or anything. But what if you do that and you dont get sleepy, and you end up just staying up watching stuff and then its time to work? is it better to just be up and feel exhausted the next day, rather than get some physical eye and body rest and the chance of sleeping a couple of hours?
this is something i struggle with so often and can never decide what to do.

      Hi Johnny,
So glad you’re seeing this, I think it’s foundational. And you know, when someone says “Hey Daniel, won’t doing something exciting just make me more awake?” - I always go “Now you are onto something, you’ve discovered a fear of being awake, and the invitation to see that it’s what drives Insomnia.”
So as odd as it sounds, when we have this question, it’s sort of a validation that befriending wakefulness can help.
But - resting with no other intent than to do what feels easiest and kindest, that’s just as much befriending wakefulness as watching Netflix.

Hello, please, I need help. I'm afraid of having SFI. I'm Latin American. I'm 16 years old. I'm using a translator. So sorry if I have any spelling mistakes. No one in my family has died because of this. I've been sleeping badly for 5 weeks. It all started because one day I was late. sleep a little more than usual and the first thing that came to mind was this illness, I have spasms before sleeping like Ricard Siagan's (I saw that case and it traumatized me even more) I have had double vision for one or two years (I don't know if it's because I look at my cell phone a lot with the light off or because my dad wears glasses) but that terrifies me. Currently, I haven't needed any medication to sleep, I don't have cognitive problems, memory loss or coordination problems, which If I have anxiety due to fear of this disease, I have not even told my parents for fear of worrying them. I am commenting on this here because I have not found any channel in Spanish that talks about this, so I hope you see this comment, please, I am very scared: (

    Hi,
Would you like to make a film about brain zaps? (Its similar symptom to hypnic jerks)
    I think it's mine issue :((

Yes definitely, I’m grateful for the tip because I’m sure many others would also benefit. In the meantime, we have a playlist on Hypnic awareness and jerks, and what we teach on brain zaps would be similar
