I'm glad to see you actually kept and enjoyed the Congers instead of throwing them away.
May I suggest you try a orange marmalade with soy sauce marinade on them. I think you'll find it delicious. Especially if you place it under a broiler until it's 90% done and then top it with the marinade and let it get cooked to a nice sticky caramelized glaze.

When I was young we fished out of Poole Harbour, and we ate everything we caught. Conger, we either grilled the steaks or we jellied it. Jellied conger is surprisingly good, eaten cold. But my parents came from Yorkshire, so there wasn't much that was so appalling that we didn't eat it.

That was amazing video Smash!! I like the way you treat the fish so that they go back none the worse for ware. I watched Dano the other night fishing for conger and he was brutal, did not respect the fish what so ever. but you unhooked them the way they should be unhooked, and retuned them, credit to you and Sam. Keep the videos coming. They are awesome!!!

Awesome video Guys 🎣👍. Congrats to Sam, with those 2 40lb+ congas 🤪😉. My Dad was Fisherman in the North sea ( trawler's & Gill-nettig ) for over 30+ years. When he made ocean pie , a 1/3 of the fish would be Conger. And special accessories, he would make it like a sheeperd pie . Those were the best, as they would be a tone of Spider crab 🦀 😋. Are home town was GRIMSBY.

That’s what I love about your fishing Jay you don’t take everything you catch. Congers are a great fish and I’m sure there are some monsters down there. The best way I have had conger is baked by the slab in the oven. Great video guys.
Many years ago, on holiday in Cornwall, there was talk of a 200lb conger caught in a trawlers net. I don't know if that is true, but if it is, it would have been fun on a rod and line!

Nice catch. Those eels put up a good fight. I've caught American eels but they weren't half that size but still fought good. Very slimy and hard to hold onto.

Excellent video guys! Well done. Conger do eat small lobsters so no doubt that may explain the taste being similar. Took 5 out of 9 lobster pots once and one of them bit through my waders! Quite a bite on them! Not yet tasted one but a good friend recommends them so will be eating one soon! WEll done!

Hi Sam, great video. I boat fish out of Christchurch in the uk and we regularly catch 20-40lbs congers. We haven't kept any but im keen to eat one. How did you dispatch it please? I hear they have really tough heads and bashing them on the head doesn't always kill them. Is this true?
Commercial fishermen whack them halfway down their back with a mallet or bodyslam them onto the deck - there's some sort of nervous centre in their spine that's disrupted by this.

Pout, pout, more pout and some black bream. It's very flat and broken so doesn't hold pollack/ling/cod. It's not even a particularly congery wreck, there are others with far more and far bigger ones in them off the island, but they're in deeper water and harder to fish.

It’s called the captain niko wreck , it was a cargo ship that sprung a leak , it’s 140 meters long , weighs 6000 tons , I don’t talk about we’re I am as people will be there next time

Conger in my opinion tastes a lot like Cod
I've been lucky enough to eat lots of fish across the world. Conger is quite close to the bottom of the list I'm afraid. I only had it twice. The second time to check if the first time was just a one off disappointment. Full of bones and bland. Sure you can add seasoning and spices but then you don't taste the real fish and the bones don't go away.
What's the rule on keeping something that big? LOTS of eating on one that size, Mate.

the big ones don't seem to thrash around as much as the smaller ones huh? i guess just like us people. i was much more squirrely when i was thin. now that i'm disabled i got fatter and can't move around as much.
